one of the best
station wagons Pontiac has ever made!!!
Brings back some Good Memories of my Young days in the 80's...I Miss PONTIAC...
I love station wagons than any other type of car.
Wow, it's so amazing to see a 1979 Pontiac wagon in such good condition. I haven't seen one in years. After all, it's a 37-year-old car, and they are rare now. What interested me most of all is that the radio still worked! I was expecting to hear "My Sharona" (lol)! That design was in continuous production from 1977 until Pontiac discontinued it in 1989. (Chevy and Buick kept it awhile longer.). One more thing: you ought to go to North Carolina's DMV and request antique-auto plates. The car is old enough to have them. And that folding third seat - really cool! I don't think SUVs would have existed if it were not for the station wagons. Just like there would be no soul music without gospel music. Chew on that for a minute! I love the way you end each video with, "There's more where that came from." And, boy, is there!
Austin Lucas pontiac had wagons right through to 1989 for sure I own an 89 safari station wagon and it's basically the exact same as this right down to the folding rear seat.
Ben Thompson Nope, he is correct. Pontiac temporarily dropped the full-size models for 1982; the largest models offered that year were the Bonneville Model G, formerly the LeMans. Pontiac did return to the full-size wagon in mid-year 1983.
William Reed maybe in the U.S here in Canada there was alot of full-size wagons and cars in
82
@@benthompson9684 Hence why the Parisienne came down here from Oshawa, Canada.
Pontiac needs to come back
CloroxBleach so they can make more aztek's !
Andrew Samy Hahahaha
Those azteks were awful
Jack Vegetables they were pretty bad but that’s what makes them cool. They had a lot of cool features. Some features from the Pontiac stinger concept carried over to the Aztek.
I’ve been a Pontiac Fan all my life
I love these big square oldskool American cars!
Very durable & reliable car!!! I had a '79 Bonnevile. I sure miss it!! Fantastic highway car!!!
Kyle, I absolutely love these older model vehicles you do
I’m a fan of station wagons form the 70s, 80s, and 90s.
My family's holiday hauler was a 1975 Buick Estate. It was a little bit more posh than the Pontiac, and had the clam shell tail gate. The rear seat was where my brother and I spend hours on long car trips. We felt like it was our own world, and best of all it was the maximum distance from the parental units. Somehow we managed well enough with just a couple of board games and a Mattel football game.
Good review. seeing these old rigs takes me back to so many family car trips from my childhood.
it's too bad they don't make cars like this anymore
+Sami Alhalabi 1979 not bad. fuck you 2016s kid
I love how I always hear great songs on the radio in your videos. This car is HUGE, would love to have one, though with either lower fuel prices or an efficient diesel.
I would give anything to own this car
Wow! Two Def Leppard songs in a row when you turned on the radio!
I love the rear jump seat. It reminds me of my childhood. It was stow-and-go 25 years before it became popular again.
I think this car is so cool!! The way the seats fold/unfold is probably the coolest part! Plus the fact that there's a suicide rear seat!
Am I the only one who wishes cars like these could make a resurgence instead of crossovers and SUVs?
You not the only one who thinks that
I like both
I’d take a wagon like this over an SUV and crossover any day.
So cool to see one of these in such good condition!
Damn they made sure to accommodate all the smokers in the family. Dual zone ash tray in front, ash trays in both rear doors, and one in the back for the kids! Also I am amazed how well equipped that is for a 1979.
--- TITANIC is ALIVE --- !!! A whole iron continent over wheels! Absolutely AWESOME!!! Thank you, Kyle!
Def Leppard: Bringin on the heartbreak
Thanks I was wondering what the tune was lol
Thanks for the memories, this was the mini van of the 70's and 80's. Thanks for sharing.
Wow, it's rare to see a 79 Bonneville Grand Safari wagon. When I growing up, I was 5 and had 3 younger siblings at the time and dad got mom this exact wagon, except it was the green with wire wheel covers. Looked like the Griswold Family Truckster. Honestly had to be one of the nicest cars we had. Auto AC, 8 Track, Fuel Econ guage, RTS, power seats, seating for 9...looking back it was and is a really great B body. Good times in that damn car. I could climb all around in there.
I love this car! Great review, Kyle!
This is super cool!!! All the power stuff still works surprisingly!!! 👍
Gotta love the old full size GMs!
I had one just like it in the 80s was a great car
My dream classic car!! Wonderful job bro.
wow this car looks great for its age
Haha sweet this is why I love your channel! So much variety and detailed, unbiased reviews
I just love these big station wagons
Good radio for such an older car
Looks sooo comfortable! I love the older American cars!
That's when they made real cars and before that. Wow the old school car buzzer sound.
Beautiful car!
i love these old old boats :), great video kyle :)
That thing is a beast!
I love that background music.
2 car tours awsome
Nothing says quality like these old boats :D
Same goes for the awesome video!
Grandma had a 79 olds wagon. I remember riding in the back of one of these.
I've posted a couple of times, but I've had 2 Bonnevilles and they are same only by name. I was 27 and got a black on black 2000 SSEi. Just a beautiful machine. My other Bonne was a 2004 Grey with Grey suede interior GXP with the detuned Cadillac Northstar V8. These are considered full size these days but I have to say I loved both. Every creature comfort and 10 more you want, tons of power, great looking, and room for 5. Both awesome for interstate cruising. I would like a 79 though.
My dad got my mom a new olive green on olive green 79 Bonneville Safari (exactly looked like Family Truckster) I was 7 at the time but I recall it had every option. In place of clock, fuel economy needle (clock above climate control) Climate control was auto with a temp wheel to adjust it, 8 track, wire wheel covers, power recline on passenger side, inside right side mirror control, full guages instead of idiot lights. No clue what motor but had to be Olds or Chevy being loaded. Loved it.
nice interior
This car was really nice back then!
awesome 👍
My family had one of these in the early 90s. It had the built in AM/FM/CB radio
I also remember walking home from school one snowy day (live in SE Michigan) and, our driveway was on the slightest of angles. This RWD behemoth wouldn't even make it up that. My dad was out back of it pushing it. I was still living at home and bought a new 96 Trans Am and had to have him do the same thing when I tried to drive it in 8 inches of snow. Also some guy rear ended it. I remember hearing a huge "bam". The car didn't have a scratch on it. B-body beasts!
great choice!
I love watching your videos, and the most interesting ones are exactly like this, where you can see in detail the classic american cars so strange and different for a European
Classic Station Wagon FTW! I would drive it! Would be perfect for the beach or travel.
Finding a fully restored unit and owning it would be so great.
NICE!!!!!
Period correct music =) Gotta love early Def Leppard
These cars were indestructible
dude, you are awesome for doing these! lol.
Very good video, Saabkyle04!
this wagon is soo practical
nice car
I would love to own a wagon like that!
Thank you Kyle for bringing us some good american classics once again AWESOME video! who needs an SUV when you have what an 8 passenger station wagon haha! oh the days when you could jump a car by touching the chrome bumpers and hook up the + to the other + and be done with it :P I grew up with an 85 olds cutlass supreme and man... what a car! that thing held up through 3 boys growing up and is STILL out there somewhere haha!
Damn, those are some damn cool cars :D
I remember my mom revving up hers like that on a daily.
Very cool wagon! Surprising that it only has a 301 in it, and this motor is in my Friends '79 Delt, and makes for only 135 hp. Dam good motor though, but probably even more underpowered for this Safari.
good job saabkyle04!!!!!
gotta love those old hearse-like station wagons =)
I just bought an 89’ Pontiac Safari with 70,000 original miles for 1,000 bucks yesterday. I can’t wait to Turbo LS swap it! 🙂
That's the same buzzer I remember hearing in a 1995 Buick Regal that was white with red interior which as a result used the scary buzzer instead of the chime when going on field trips at the summer camp in Foxboro and I used to be terrified of riding in that 1995 Buick because the buzzer in that one was so scary.
Very nice Kyle :)
And especially the factory radio sounds clear and new.
i love
At 7:39 that is the same exact overhead light that is in my 1986 AMC Eagle Limited! I love old American Wagons! :)
And the cherry on the top is Def Leppard on the radio
I love these oldschool american cars
OUTSTANDING! :-D
I have a friend who is a GM mechanic in which looks like this but has Rallye wheels, cassette player radio, gauge package air conditioning, rear defogger, third rear seat, car is originally registered in British Columbia which has a metric speedometer and was built in Oshawa Ontario Canada on October 11, 1978.
I love how this 1979 has all around disc brakes but my 2008 still has drums in the rear...
I can totally relate to the vehicle
When i was growing up during the 1980's cars like this ruled the road, and had style unlike the econo shitboxes made today. I am thankful having to experience what a real car looks like! I remember my brother saying back then that the 301's were junk like other posters said. I always liked the Pontiac's styling.
its amazing how similar the ford and pontiac are
Reminds me of my dad's 1978 Buick Estate Wagon
hope somebody brought this and stored away great car !!!!!
Nice! That Bonnie looks like it still has a lot of years left. As for the Squire wagon, I have a 1989 in beige.
I miss station wagons. I miss seeing the 80s early 90s cars.
Now THAT's a REAL station wagon!!! Tank Tough!! What GM used to make!!! I really wish GM didn't kill Pontiac, What the HELL were they thinking!!!! Olds also? My uncle on my Dad's side has an '86 Parisienne which was the Canadian version of the Bonneville when it was full-sized and that Pontiac started selling in the States in '82 when the Bonneville was downsized to the Chevy Malibu platform, It still looks, runs & drives great!! He keeps it in pristine condition also.
Gives a whole new meaning to "I'm On A Boat"
Wow !!!
That Safari was ahead of its time. The 1990 Ford looks just like it!
@yellowcow13 aye the wood paneled country squire :) i had 2 of them back in the day. one was white with fake wood. other was grey had the wood thing too
Love the 3rd seat facing the wrong direction? Good times!
my dad had an 81 landau top 2 dr.... NICE CAR! leather, sunroof, I think as top of the line you can get.... I miss it :/
A door AND a tailgate... now that's great innovation! Anybody ever done that since?
You can also use the foot safari ace in the rear for a locking storage compartment when not i. Use
Beautiful car! Back when cars were the SUV’s... hell, I’d use this to go camping in! Just fold down the seats and slide a bed in... when the car is rockin don’t come knockin lol
They just dont make cars like this anymore....love the vid kyle!!!
@k0edby22 This is the 301 Pontiac V8, so it has either 135 or 150 hp, depending on whether this is 2BBL or 4BBL.
@SuperSportSS
Yeah but the 1990 Crown Victoria underpinnings were also from 1979 with minor changes until 1992 when the body style changed but the Panther platform remained until today. Both wagons were ahead of their time when first released
Valve stem oil seals may be a bit dry...but a really excellent car! Sometimes I wish I lived in the US just to experience those mammoth vehicles.
I love these old American “Yank Tanks”, as my Dad used to call them. Steering column shift -cool.
Check out that wood grain, classy
