Estates (or wagons as you Americans call them) are so much cooler than SUV's. I'm sure they'll become trendy once more in the US, as they never went out of fashion in the rest of the world.

    • @Velopod

+Paul Hojda I think Wagons are becoming less and less "in" here in the US. SUVs are taking over the market, such as the Honda CRV, Ford Escape, etc.

SUVs, and real SUV's(like yukons)are pretty fucking cool. Crossovers are just aweful. But man do i love station wagons. I would have no problems if the market when from crossovers to wagons tomorrow. crossovers are hard to see out of, smaller than station wagons, handle bad.

Yeah, The SUV took over in the early 90s. The days of the big American wagon are no more, but I wish we could get some Body on frame, RWD, v8 powered wagons for today's market. This car and the Town Car/Grand Marquis/Ford Crown Vic were the last hurrah for traditional, full size American cars.

This was an 8 seater car. I miss my Roadmaster wagon. I loved the full-size cars. Up until 2004 Ford made the Crown Vics and Mercury Grand Marquis. 96' GM killed their REAL full-size cars. The DTS/DHS/DeVille/Fleetwood was FWD.... A bloody nightmar to do pulley work (including water pump). You need ratchet wrenches. Stupid...

I AGREE this car especially people don't understand why station wagons are my favorite cars they are rare 80's and 90's wagons they are so nostalgic and beautiful cars. It blows that they did away with the 5 seater station wagon that was due to the fact that the department of transportation deemed them unsafe. The reason is there were no airbags in the fifth seat nonetheless these are a beauty and I have only seen less than a handle full of them in person in my life. Especially with the road trim!

I'm glad a young guy like Kyle can appreciate an old school car like this! I owned a 1991 Caprice wagon similar to this and it got lots of looks wherever I went. It was great for vacations because I could take all the stuff I wanted that I wouldn't have room for in a smaller car. I put studded snow tires on it and this beast just plowed through heavy snows without any problems. Never once got stuck! This is a classic for sure!

Ours looks near identical to this one ^ besides I lowered it. We love it, best car weve ever owned. Almost 200k on her now, and she can still do a wicked burnout! These cars are fabulous. We don't have anything like this here in Europe (maybe a large Volvo estate is close but not the same) and I suppose that's what helps make it even more appealing: it's a huge car for huge roads in a huge country. This would be brilliant to drive across the US in.

These classics make excellent work & pleasure vehicles, and were very reliable/durable. The classic American station wagon was far more versatile than any SUV... even smaller crossovers. The perfectly balanced V8 / aerodynamic body struck a harmonious balance ... that really did deliver the rated 25mpg HWY (I had one). Not a fanboy of GM by any means, bu

A Buick Roadmaster Estate Wagon in this same Driftwood Beige color combo is featured in a current State Farm Insurance Ad, as the family "hand me down" being presented to a young man by his parents as his first car, after his older sister buys her first "new" car. The young man was, shall we say, less than thrilled to be inheriting "Brown Betty" from his big sis. He asks his parents what he's supposed to do with it. They respond by saying "just get in it, and uh, drive it." He moans his disappointment, as the commercial ends.
The car used in the commercial is not anywhere near as "pristine" as the one you showcase in this post.
I think this is a beautiful car, and a wonderful example early 90's engineering.

My wife and I have one each: hers is "The Lovemobile" (115Kmi) and mine "The Shaggin Wagon" (175Kmi). We have traveled and camped all over Ameriva. The 8-ft cargo bed fits 2 adults. Wagons don't have the facilities of an RV but our fuel consumption is much lower ... and you can find all the facilities you need in campgrounds all over America. We've had to do a few minor repairs but IMHO these pre-owned wagons (at $5-grand a piece) are good for 250-300Kmiles if you do your regular oil changes.

Thank You so much for the informative walk through ! It was great ! I just purchased one of these, same colour as Yours. I absolutely love mine, & I hope to get mine in as nice of condition that Yours is in. The mags are a very nice touch ! Well Done ! Kudos to You !

What a great vehicle and a tremendously underrated luxury car. During the 1960s and early 1970s Buicks were referred to as, "The gentleman's muscle car." It's too bad, the full size cars now are junk and would be considered compact during the 1980s and 1990s.

The trim molding looks like it's been re-covered with 3M's latest rendition of what they call Burma Teak, which is much darker than the original color GM used for the trim vinyl which was also a 3M product called Burma Teak but was much lighter. I have been looking to re-do my trim molding and have 3M's new Burma Teak sample here, it's much darker than original.

235 is actually oversized for the car. factory was 225 and the base caprice even had 215's standard. a lot of guys do run 235's to fill out the wheel wells. i see the trim around the wood is painted. i do that...i actually make it look like wood if you watch my video i show an example on my own wagon.
