Fab! My Zygo i got for £1 from a 'this is likely dead' rail in b&q. The media had turned to dust. I cleaned and soaked the roots, repotted and it's growing a new growth. Still don't know what type/colour though!
Ha ha what a coincidence! I got myself a zygopetalum yesterday. It is the kind with green flowers which have brown stripes and purple lips with white tips. It is amazing. I remembered it from one of your videos. I would like to express a wish: Could you do a care video about these Orchids? There is less around UA-cam. I got very used to you, because you speak clearly and softly and all in all your videos were of help the last weeks. I'm a newer subscriber. I wish you a nice day and warm greets from Germany!
Hi, I definitely will when I get more experience with them, I did not have great luck with them so I couldn't do a good care tutorial, but next year if all goes well I will!
HEY Dannnnni! SO happy you are still making videos and doing well :) Any interest in doing a video on Western Predatory Mites? I believe this is what I keep finding on my plants and always thought they were “bad” bugs but I think (hope) I am wrong and this is actually what I keep finding as the tiny little bugs on my plants stay tiny, clear colored, and mostly live on roots not spinning webs or causing any noticeable damage. Hoping I didn’t cause too much setback treating for these little guys when in actuality they are beneficial! Keep up the hard work, HAPPY GROWING
Every time I watch one of Danny’s videos I feel like buying new orchids especially the ones that I failed (zygos miltoniopsis) bc she shows that it is possible :) Also I managed to make a “lil masdevallia cage” in which I keep my masdies with higher humidity it’s a lantern for candles where I have wet towels in there to keep it humid and at night I put a frozen bottle in to cool them down works great and the effort is with it for me bc I like them so much
Hello Danny, I have one and only zygopetalum in my collection, it reads Louisendorf on its name tag, and had not shown any signs of growing for about a year. I decided to move it outside and it's been in my yard for about a month now. It started growing new roots and two tiny growths!! My questios are: as I've noticed its roots are growing upwards, should I consider repotting it in case it doesn't like the substrate? And would you advise repotting at this stage and time of year? Finally, should I keep it outside and for how long? Thank you for your videos. They're always so enlightening.
Congrats on your rupics! And Happy belated Bday! Please let us know what you decide to do with their supposed winter rest. P.S. all 3 of my rock laelias love leca so far! So do my bifoliates but only my seedlings and minis like aclandiae.. hmm..
Hello Danny! Thanks for the video, very helpful for my 2nd Zygo attempt :) I have noticed some black spots on the leaves, are you going to do anything with them? Or is it not a big issue for Zygopetalums?
Hey Dani! I have a question that’s not really related to this topic but I would really like to know if you’ve ever experienced this. I’m quite new to the hobby and when I repot my phals I would clean off the media, rinse with water, and spray with hydrogen peroxide. I repot my phals in moss due to my dry climate. A few days after I repot them I would see “mold” appear on the root, the mold has a bluish green color. I can’t figure out why since your orchids sprayed with hydrogen peroxide seems to do great no matter repotted in whatever type of media. Thank you😊
Hi, hydrogen peroxide is not going to cure anything, it's just a quick fix. I think you need to find the source which promotes mold and eliminate it. Mold spores are all around us, but they only develop if the have conditions. Try to increase ventilation, fresh air and maybe try a less water retentive mix. Good luck! 😁
:) Nice repotting ! Sorry the first one rotted... :/ If the package wouldn't have been for so long in processing by the post, maybe the zygo would have been ok. I thought in maximum 5 days you will receive them. And the flower spikes !... :( I wouldn't expected it they would turn yellow and begin to dry ! Anyway good luck with all your zygo's !
Hi Veronica, no problem at all, I am happy to make an interesting video! I love the orchids, thanks so so much, you made me very happy! 💖💖💖💖 Oh ps: maybe I didn't catch it, but did you notice the flowers to be different between them by any chance? I know 2 are different, but not sure about the other 2 :p
@@MissOrchidGirl Only 2 were still in bloom, the ones that I wrote they smell like hiacynts; they have indeed the same type of flower. I do believe too the other 2 are different, the petals seem to be more elongated and narrower towards the tips (they were already spent when I bought them so I can't tell you precise how they look like). Anyway, I believe they are definitely different than the Rhein Clown zygo's you have. Very exciting now until they flower all again ! I am very curious... :) I am sure they will do perfect in your care, I can't wait to see updates !
Hi Roger. I don’t have great luck with miltoniopsis. Maybe too warm but it is hard to manage temperature in one area for everyone. I will persevere. I love the blooms. They are striking. Maybe too much light. Great and informative vid today. Always learn something new. It is also hard to get plants here in western Canada. But I think my plants are liking my new care plan and my mental determination to get this right. Always a work in progress. How was the Naughty Drivers Class? Cheers.
Hi Danny. I had an Oncidium that came with wrinkling bulbs a year or two ago. Despite changing media and trying all sorts of watering and pots it didn't make it. On three occasions new growth began to appear but each time would brown only after a month. My conclusion was prehaps my first encounter with the dreaded Dr Fu. I read a couple months ago the fusarium is hitting certain banana crops also 😱.
Oh no :( yeh there are those orchids that just don't grow, no matter how many 'potions' you throw at them. It is what it is sadly and Oncidiums are very susceptible I noticed!
Good morning Danny, It seems that some comments, including mine, have escaped your attention, I know we've become far too many, or am I just being too impatient for an answer? Please, will you go over them? Any ideas will help since we are new to this orchid's culture. Thanks. Happy growing to everyone!
Danny has spoken about it many times over the past months. The main reason she is not using semi-hydro/self-watering with LECA anymore is because it is too drying for her environment. Because she has a large orchid collection, she wants a setup that is much easier on her when it comes to watering. Secondarily, certain orchids, such as those in the oncidium alliance, have proven to do much better for Danny in her environment in an organic mix of bark and sphagnum moss. This does not mean that setups with LECA do not work, rather, for Danny in her environment, setups with LECA are not ideal.
@@SemihydroponicswithSma Of course. I also forgot to mention that Danny was having some issues with the LECA raising the Ph and I think that was also a factor in her decision to stop using LECA but it was secondary to the drying/hydration issues.
Hi ms orchid girl... i have a question.... i have collection of orchids like dendrobiums, phaleanopsis, cattleya and vanda. They are located on my balcony and used to bloom every month.. but my jealous neighbor blocked the sun light from entering my balcony since then my orchids failed to bloom for many months and almost a year ... can i use the blue and red led grow light for my orchids? I really need your help.. thank you
Hi, the grow lights do a good job, but they are harsh for the eye. You can get good results with daylight bulbs as well and you can look at them at least :)
Hi, there is no best processed fertilizer :) chose one that has as many nutrients as possible. You can chose a balanced NPK ratio and be sure to check for Ca and Mg. The rest should be many micronutrients :)
So sorry. That happens when you watch two videos and then leave comments. Should only do one st a time when you are 70! But I have problems with getting my zygos to rebloom. Some just die and some have good leaves but that is all. I read you shouldn’t mist the leaves. Your thoughts on that? In the wild they would have had rain so I wonder about that.
Hi Danni....... there any left in that store? 😁 And where is the store? Will loveto buy them.......and i still looking for repti bark....but i cannot find in pet shops i looked ...at least the same brand.... can you please tell me ..? Thank you for your help
Danny did not buy those zygopetalums, she was sent them by her viewer bobirceaveronica who lives in a different country than Danny. In what country/region of the world do you live? Since Danny lives in Cyprus she may not know what brands of bark are available to you but other viewers in your area may be able to help or give recommendations.
@@michaeltoolin8468 thank you Michael for the answer....i leave in Cyprus too 😁 so this is the reason i ask for the bark..... as Danni say in one of the previous videos that she found in local pet shops...and i look in many with no result....

Dani I have two Vanda Orchids that I bought over the summer. One had 4 keikis in her basket and one broke off sadly in transport. No roots at all. I placed her in a basket with loose moss and kept moist for about 4 months. She is still pretty and green and I see two roots developing yesterday when I watered her. I have not fertilized her at all because of the lack of roots and do not want to burn the new ones. Do you think I should do anything different? New Vanda Mom. So worried about this baby! She has 6 nice leaves!!
Hi, I think you did great so far 👍 wait for the roots to start turning green when wet and start with half dosage for a month or so. Then you can use the recommended amount, but flush regularly with plain water. That should do it 😋
