Am I missing something or what? Why are a lot of people so upset about the 0-100 times?? you are buying a 4X4 not a Audi RS6... How quickly it can get to 100 is irrelevant unless of course your a Yuppie who owns one and never takes it out for what it is actually built and designed to do. What is more important is how well it travels, yes on the road but more importantly how it handles and travels off road. I personally think the carpet is a great idea. I would assume it is all weather carpet but with it being carpet that should stop items from sliding around under normal driving. A good review thanks :)
Or a dribbler like u 😂
@@tyzon00800 huh??
As a tradie a carpet is so useful and beneficial because once you’ve completely fucked up your carpet with dirt, paint, glue, cement, plaster, oil, silicone, concrete, sand, stain, waterproof, expoxy etc. then all you have to do is remove the carpet and you got a brand new Ute. Love it
Fair call!
Have you heard of a tray liner?
Well I’m guessing your an electrician. Because they don’t use any of the above so it will be perfect to put your two screw drivers, 5v impact driver and 3 foot step ladder.
@@tersy9862 The bed liner spray? Good luck removing it
@@kieranabbey6418 do you live in a cave haha. You can get rubber mats and even custom made ones from supercheap
Bedrugs (marine carpet tub liners) have been around for decades, they're actually quite durable and are much better than the plastic liners for preventing cargo from sliding around, they can be pulled out and hosed off without issue.
Untill you load 1/2 ton of cement bags ... or a ton of sand.
I have bought a 2021 Hilux Cruiser NZ ( Rouge) and its fliping great love it . I live in the county (Wellsford ) and the road are sh@#t , but the Hilux Cruiser is like riding a magic carpet (not carpet in the back a liner) I have a very bad back problem and was concerned about the ride but when I test drove the Hilux it was a great ride. I went with all the bell and whistles and I am very happy . This is the fifth Toyota I have owned . Long live the Hilux :o) Great review . Cost $68.349 NZ$
Most of the guys at my workplace prayed for a pickup with a carpet in the bed and it looks like their prayers have been answered, in a twisted way because this isn't available in the UK!
Bed rug
_"...it's an indication of build quality. If I do this in an Audi, nothing moves."_
Neither will the Audi, once the warranty is up.
Lol
Best comment ever.
Hehe
Good 1
That’s fucking hilarious 🤣💀👏🏼
Love the 0-100 times, thanks for doing it
Hello, Paul. I really appreciate that you mentioned how good the air conditioning is. I recently had the opportunity to spend a day in the passenger seat of my friend's RAV4 and the AC was the top thing that impressed me. You don't feel it blowing on you. It's designed to diffuse the air and maintain the 'climate' temperature that you have chosen. Great video! (This is my second CarExpert video. I subscribed a few hours ago after watching your Amarok review. New subscriber here. Now I have a lot of videos to watch...)
Thanks for subscribing!

I really appreciate your build quality and leg room tests. Those are stand out features that I look for and you provide great consistency between tests to more easily compare vehicles. Big thanks
I still drive my 2005 Toyota Hilux. The odometer has almost reached 300000km. Still going strong but I've been considering getting a new Hilux. Thanks for the informative review. Helps a lot in deciding which one to get. But I am not sure the Rogue is available here in Papua New Guinea. We do have the SR5s though.
2021, no blind spot. No wireless charge. No 360 camera. Luckily we still get the inflated prices at least.
"safety features like Apple car play and Android Auto" yay I spotted a thing! Great video guys.
I live in Thailand and concluded that the best value for money is the basic double cab without all the gizmos and plastic bits to make it look more expensive.
Have tried to be the voice of reason, $70K?
Nah. And people laughed at Mercedes.
$40K is ridiculous for what are essentially light trucks. Profit margin must be astounding. Don't get me wrong, I have a ute and I love it. Each to their own on infotainment but the safety tech attitude worries me. It should never replace the ability to read the traffic and make good decisions, or acceptable vehicle control. Yet these days people go on as if these features are the difference between life and death - perhaps if driving is not your primary focus........
How did we ever survive all these decades without it? I can't even remember the last time my ABS kicked in. The issue isn't the tech so much as the attitude that its the only factor at play.
In the end, absolutely sure its a good vehicle but it seems the mobile phone marketing and upgrade hype has hit the vehicle segment.
Of course, great review as always.
Great review Paul.
Here in the South Africa, the Rogue is known as the Legend RS... The RS stands for Roller Shutter. We get a rubberised layer bin instead of carpet. First time seeing carpet in the load bin.
Just wondering how long that shutter button is going to last
Don't you mean Rat Shit.
@@phedishonchabeleng9422 As long as the warranty hahahaha
Still No1 and always will be Far Better Resale than ALL COMPETITION.
Toyota tax, pay when you buy it, get back when you sell
@@rohbrown and it's ALWAYS the WAY. TOYOTA WAY.
I’m singaporean and in Singapore, we do not have these vehicles but I actually find your reviews enjoyable and helpful!
Just take mrt and feeder bus.cheaper.
Given that the vast majority of pretty boy versions of these utes do little more than carry grocery bags or gym bags, the carpeted tub actually makes sense!
ive always wondered why anyone has to explain themselves if they have a ute but dont carry tools or arent a tradesmen. Is it not enough that theyre a great all round vehicle and for that reason why shouldnt a range of people have them? I find all these "pretty boy versions" and "pavement princess" comments to just show what a belter or how jealous the person is who makes the comment. Cheers mate.
The carpet helped me decide, I’m a boatie / surfer and love the ocean, the marine carpet is perfect, this is the perfect Ute
thank you so much for this review. Have been long waiting for this rogue review you!

Hi There, love your reviews! We are in the process to look for our new car and your comments are really helpful. I couldn't find any review of the Rogue x 2021, anything that you could share with us?
I love the commercial carpet in the back
I would buy this over the raptor because I intend to go to the bush and COME BACK in one piece. 😝
me too, weve done it plenty of times in our 2.4 4x2 manual double cab hilux while pulling a trailer with 2x 400kg cows and a gross trailer weight of 1.4 tons and i know this isnt good but there was nothing else. it was an unbraked trailer, i know thats not safe but you gotta make due with what you have. we also had 600kg of chicken feed in the bed and 4 220lb dudes innit (my dad and his cousins) all through a 300km outback track and i have to say that when your loading up your ute heavy, your gonna wish you had the hilux stiff leaf suspension cause it handled it all amazingly man
You would very well go and come back from the bush with a raptor.
Hmm had DPF issue once in middle of nowhere got towed 🤬.. Toyota got it regenerate and again ..sold it mate now ranger wildtrak near 90k not problem whatsoever and more roomy, comfy and better drive not regretting switching to Ford
Just make sure there's no dust, rumour is Toyota in the near future will attempt to make an airfilter box that seals.
U have no idea
thx Paul ,well review )
You need to review the 200 series, this was a good review
Hi Paul , just wanted to say great review and just a suggestion can you please honk the car horns you review so we know what it sounds like 🙂 Thank you ❤️
I’m looking at buying one, love your review, yes the carpet got me also, I’m going to get a dig from the boys for sure. Currently I drive a old Nissan navara , I think I’ll miss the amount of room I currently have in the back with the seats up, I can fit the 40 litre angle fridge in there no worries
Why do manufacturers come so close to giving us what we want. This needs ventilated front seats, memory drivers seat functions, a 360 camera and Toyotas crawl control while being just slightly bigger and wider. But nope they all build the same thing with different styling and charge the earth thinking "let's wait and squeeze a little more out of em before we add one thing at a time every 6 years".
Well wrote
Its frustrating isn't it. But.. if they added ALL that stuff it'd be $90k. Its just such a competitive market, all manufacturers are trying to add as much as they can but remain price competitive.
@@tommygola so trooo
The worst part is, the US equivalent, the Tacoma has all those options, it also has a better design folding rear seat and is available in a long wheel base (dual cab with an extra cab length tray behind), for some reason they don't put that gear on the Hilux.
They can't even give you adequate usb ports.......
Was waiting for this💯Ur a legend moite
Awesome review & the carpet is for when you pull up at a drive in theatre 😂
The carpet would suit me as I’m not a tradie. As always a straight forward intelligent review thank you Paul.
Same here, I am not a tradie but I am currently in the process of buying my first Ute and carpet in the tray is a must since I don't want my very expensive photography gear sliding around the back. Thanks again for the great reviews
Carpet would suit me. Throw a mattress in the back and sleep in the back on the beach.
@@WadihNader Maybe a rubber mat would suit you better. Stuff slides on carpet.
@@Malc664 Agreed. Lot of inexpensive options for tray mats. Most stop the sliding, are easy to remove for cleaning and handle the UV.
@@WadihNader wait for the new ranger next year
Hi Paul, No One in Australia has did comparison between Mercedes GLS, Landrover Discovery, BmwX7 ... it would be great to see that ultra luxury seven seater vehicles on comparison.... Requesting for that review...
That’s because you can’t get all three of them to last a 3hr test at the same time mate.
@@craigdavid6668 yes thats right mate... But Only Paul can do it...
@@DesiDuddeVlogs Do a test without them breaking down?
In South Africa it’s called the Legend and has a proper rubberised tray. White is the only colour I’d have, it looks great against the black/grey trim.
In Namibia its a legend too.
One critical area with dual cab utes that you have been overlooking is tailgate sealing. Some do, some don't. Dust sucking in is a huge problem with these utes. Carpet, well it does stop cargo sliding around on steel or plastic beds.
The river is too high for us to test that today 😀😀 as always
This Channel is on such a roll :D
Can you review the new *Mahindra Pikup* for us poor people please😁
you guys got mahindra ?.
@@jalpat2272 we have mahindra in new zealand too
@@Rooxie973 yuck!
Poor people don't afford cars😂😂🕺
Carpet suits me. I’m not a tradie and I bought it only for camping with family, going to beach, can carry bicycles, segways and camping gears and what not. Perfect for me.
Carpet in the tray strange??? No it's not. BedRug make those. They're waterproof, workproof, washable, and comfy. Bit more research needed.
Is it just me or did anyone else say to themselves, "Why are you drinking hot coffee when the air-conditioning is necessary? You absolute maniac."
That "Garraye am pauu" at the start 😗
I can attest that there's nothing wrong with the heater in Scandinavian winters (up to negative ~35). The pwr heater helps when it's cold.
I'm a Holden fan🙃🙃 but I love the look of these utes 👍
I can't wait for the 2021 Holden Colorado...
Does the new rugged x have remote start?
On Carsales it says it has keyless Start and FOB proximity related, does it mean it has remote start?
I’m getting one soon and would like to know! It’s a good thing when waking up in the morning before going to work.
The carpet in the back is perfect for grocery bags which is what 90% of Aussies will mostly put in the back anyway.
Another Good looking suv pickup by Toyota
It’s not a suv or a pickup. It’s a Ute
just wondering does the carpet clip off for carrying rubbish and dirty stuff and i wish they would go with smart bluetooth mirroring as i changed my head unit to a kenwood head unit which doesn't need to be plugged in and don't have to get phone out of your pocket and works perfectly with steering wheel controls' love the new update love the look great review
Thanks 🙏
You’re welcome 😊
Toyota hilux is the most selling car in my country South Africa
Convenient, multi-purpose vehicle
I’d only use this for going to the gym/shops and the odd camping trip, so carpet would be perfect for me.
Hey Paul, off subject, but is it possible if you could film more recent Holden models like the Colorado, Calais Tourer and models like that?
The carpet helps things not slide around and is gentler on things being carried which might bump the walls.
And is super posh.
Can someone please do a review with baby capsule and booster seats in the back.
It will help choose between the hilux or Prado.
Having the tray for myself is a huge plus. But I’m unsure if driver can fit in hilux with capsule in the back.
You should do the Rugged X next 💪🏻
Hey Paul would you buy this truck?
Thank you so much for this video
Can you please do a review of this hilux rogue vs the latest dmax vcross?
Corolla 2020 hatch has resin in it's hatch door
A ute which carries less and is carpet lined which costs $70,000
Toyota has identified it's gullible market well
No blind spot monitoring (a safety feature available since 2007) and single zone air-conditioning?!?!?!
At $70k, Toyota should look into doing stand up comedy. They'd make a killing!
And an Amarok doesn't even have keyless start
@@unintentionallyfire but an Amarok has a mighty refined drive with power and handling better than most SUVs. These things aren't trucks anymore
But yet more Hilux's will sell than any other dual cab on the market, must be doing something right.
Which is kinda hillarious, considering the fact that the Hilux Rogue in Malaysia has Blind Spot Monitoring lol
@@chrisbretherton8946
Won’t be #1 for much longer. People are starting to see the cheap and nasty products that Toyota are coming out with, and charging an arm and a leg for
Can you just remove the carpet for the 3 times you’ll need to do a tip run a year?
The console wobble isn’t a build quality issue. It’s a design engineering choice/issue.
Build quality issue implies something wasn’t manufactured, assembled, installed or built to the design.
Symantics.. he's not allowed to simply quantify it as shit.

Toyotas nanoe air conditioning system is the best. I have it in my chr and avalon
Too expensive for what it is. But interesting when you compare the power and torque to that of the 79 series ute. V8 4.5lt turbo and 151kW and 430NM vs 150kW and 500NM from a 2.8 turbo 4cyl!
I wonder whether the Google car play can be retro fitted to the previous model Hilux.....
Can the carpet be removed when you want to load dirt
Did you guys do an SR review for 2022?
Well my mate just got an SR5 2020 facelift and the airbag light is already on with 200 kilometres... really? Seriously
Hey Paul, do you know if this car for sale ? Would love to buy it
Are you going to review the rugged x?
Wow eco and power mode , high tech
When is the rugged X available in Aus?
On sale now!
Hilux forever❤
Idk if most utes like toyota now are edging towards city use rather than a workhorse these days. The price alone is like we're buying a luxury car.. Again I've complaint to Toyota about chromes or plastic on the dash which gives unwanted glares during the day which i find irritating. Also Toyota should have add the tail gate assist in the lux.
Hey mate is there any chance you could do a review on chrysler 300 srt please..
In Australia we don’t give a hoot about Chrysler
Much prefer a dark interior for vehicles and aircraft; it increases visual attentiveness... Pretty funny how Toyota used to get criticism for their “bland interiors” and how they should be dark like an Audi - now their “apparently” too dark 😂
Also, would it not be more prudent to check reliability studies rather than wobble the centre console bin? That was pretty funny comparing the Toyota build quality to that of Audi/Volkswagen by wobbling a centre console bin; when in reality Audi sits at 21 and Volkswagen at 29 on the JD Powers vehicle brand reliability study 😂
Paul where is test of Puma ST!!!!! :)
Apparently this little slice of entertainment ain't making its way down under
In the Philippines it is called hilux conquest
So?
Good review as always. I just think a little more effort for the off-road segment is required. In the dry, with a competent driver, this is simply not a challenge, and that includes the descent. No need for rock crawling, but you simply wont find differences in off-road ability on this @test track@ a VW Beetle would easily handle.
I mean, he can't beat it up off road he doesn't own it, just reviewing
Is the rugged version in Australia the same as the Invincible version in Europe?
Review the new my23 wide body please
Hi Paul, Toyota should be on par with its peers with regards to setvice interval 10 000 km is too bad, 15k to 30k will do justice, do you have that problem in Australia
is the tray sealed from the elements or will dust get in there and destroy the carpet?
It's marine carpet, the same stuff they use on decks of boats, dust and water won't hurt it, they've been around for years, sold as 'Bedrug'
I really enjoy your sharp no fuss and straight to the point reviews Paul.
The humble HiLux has come a long way since I owned an ExtraCab back in 1986!
Btw How come we have/had MPG but not KPL (kilometres per litre)? Cheers
Litres per 100km is better and used
What is the difference between this model and the invincible x?
Cool model. But the fender flare/cladding to tyre sidewall width looks out.
I agree if toyota just used beefier tires that aligns with the fenders it’ll look badass
I agree 100% with you. It looks totally out of proportion.
I agree 100% with you. It looks totally out of proportion.
Thought so my self, I’ve seen a couple with the fender flares and they don’t look as good as ones without
Why not include a lift and all terrain wheels. Looks like the wheels are to small for the flares.
That’s what the Rugged X is for :-)
Does Hilux has paddle shifters?and can one get manual transmission with Hilux Rogue?
Toyota Hilux poderoso popular y original
Great review as usual Paul. The HiLux seems to fall short especially for the 70k price tag.
The Rocco model , price 1.2million thai baht in Thailand
🤡😅
The Thai PreRunner Double Cab 2.4 diesel 2WD Mid for 870,000 baht with a plastic liner is all that is required in Thailand.
Where carpet in the bin / tray is good it stops your gear from sliding around… If you Cary tool cases - they slide around on those plastic tub liners
