@Dylan Sands believe it or not but most people DONT carry loose sand and dirt in their style side ute. They just don't.
Also this "carpet" is a bed rug that is non-reactive, hard wearing, oil and stain resistant and mould resistant. It's tough as hell. If you really want to carry dirt for some reason, the tub isn't very large you could just lay a tarp.

Durability, load capacity and availability of parts everywhere in the Philippines makes the Hilux the No1 choice and No1 in sales. My new 1 is the 2020 Hilux Conquest 4x2.

Have had one for over 12 months. The Android car play is really good, and the maps and voice command work great. The carpet in the back is really good. It stops all your luggage sliding around, and you take it out when you need to. The push button roller tub cover is very good. The ride is really nice. I prefer to drive it on trips than my merc. Breaking is really good with all-around discs. Fuel efficiency has been 10.3 ltte per 100 combined. On highway ive had it down to 9.8 sitting on 115kph. Beach driving is great with 15psi front 16psi rear. Towing my jayco pop top with it is very easy. With full load in tub and van fully wet and loaded. I was watching a car designer talk the other day on UA-cam. He summed it up very well. The simpler the car, the longer it lasts. You don't need the diff lock. Traction control works very well. Put a set of all terrains on it, and it is very good. I dont like the hand brake. It rolls forward a little bit when you come off the brake. You have to be wary of it.

  • @timfenton6665

Totally agree with you about the carpet. I had the previous model rogue about changed to a rugged x this year. Tub liner in the rugged is so much more practical. Toyota should have fitted the centre led light bar from the rugged onto the rogue, looks like it already has the cutout in the front bumper for it. Excited for the rugged replacement.

    • @rd6416
      @rd6416 Рік тому +1

Strongly disagree about the carpet. It's extremely useful, it keeps objects from sliding around. No one is carrying loose dirt or gravel or compost around in any style side ute let alone a ute that has a roller cover so let's stop pretending.
I've been using my Rogue tray for carting large boxes and groceries, pet supplies and garden equipment and it is has been great. Very easy to clean too. If you're wanting a different tray liner the carpet comes out very easily, it's only attached by Velcro.

Depends what your using it for. I've found the heavy duty carpet extremely useful. Items don't slide around as much or get damaged or scratched. Thanks again Paul - although I’m quite happy with my 2010 diesel Hilux this new Rogue version brings promise for the next Gen competitor for the new Ford Ranger - the wider track has definitely improved handling despite the hopping - so it’s a step in the right direction with larger disc rotors but get rid of the silly impractical tub carpet - I expect a larger body, V6 diesel for towing, Rogue specs and more attention to rear cup holders etc and tailgate assistance will help to improve a good ute - fire engine red duco for me please.

My plans for 2024 are to explore Cape York, then head west from there towards W.A., the plan is to explore and enjoy the outback, my main concern is the cost in regards to servicing and maintaining,,,I really need a break down between the Hilux Rougue, the Ford Raptor and Nissan Warrior,

nice review I’ve got one of these 23 rogues in Saturn blue (12000 kms in 3 months and it’s a dream. It drives great. The interior is dated I admit but I not one to fuss. My best mate has a 23 raptor and I’ll admit my hilux just doesn’t compete in driving dynamics and features. But throwing on a set of falken wild peaks instead of those horrible grandtrek road tyres it is just the best off-road. I just don’t like how the locking diff is only in 4 low. But to conclude if the raptor didn’t have a 2 year wait list I would have gotten one but having lived with the hilux and never stressing over reliability and haven’t regretted my choice + it’s great to live with ( I am 19 so a ride isn’t that big of an issue). An assisted tailgate would be nice tho as I use I’d a lot for work and opening and closing the tailgate while holding materials is tough.
    Great review

5:13 my 2014 Amarok has a BedRug in the back of it, same with my dad’s 2022 W580 Amarok (both are paired with a canopy). For us it’s mainly because our dog rides in the back of the bed, as well as not scratching the bed. Carpet in a Ute bed isn’t a bad idea, it depends on your use case on whether it’s a good idea or not

And the resale is simply a reflection on what you are paying upfront.

I wonder if this Hulix, is using the next generation TNGA chassis, which explains the wider track and changes to the suspension, e.g. the rear damper sitting outward of the chassis rails, which are changes that are not normal for a car still within it’s generation. If this is the case then Toyota is using the Rogue to findi out what journalists think of how the car drives and handles, before releasing the next generation Hilux and make any small changes they need to make that most journalists find in common that they feel could be improved.

I honestly don’t reckon the carpet is a bad option. I know it’s not for everybody it’s not practical if you’re using it for work and carrying wood and stuff in the back of your Ute but this is the (top of the line) and I reckon most people will be carrying golf clubs or a surfboard which the carpet is probably a better option then standard plastic tub liner

In comparison, my MY21 Rogue looks pedestrian. Nothing different mechanically to the SR5, similar/same capabilities, just the "fluff" (which honestly, the roller cover was the main thing I wanted). I'd buy one of these if i was in the market (with only 11k km's, I'm clearly not) just for blicnd spot monitoring and increased track. Like you said, this bodes well for the next gen.

Hey Paul, if you put the DAC on and then put it in S1 (push the gear shifter right and pull down to S1) & in H4 the car will crawl down much slower, not sure why it doesn't hold it slower in full auto but it can go slower in h4. Found that out whilst sliding down an icy hill recently, thank god it works, saved me :D

Rear disc brakes is awesome upgrade hope dmax bt50 triton ect start to follow.
Taillights still annoy me they could make the brake light led aswell or redesign it to be similar to say the dmax where its parker and brake lights. Its got a led reverse light... put the indicator at the top and revese light at the bottom so can upgrade to a brighter reverse light.
Good to see its got an egr dust defender
Carpet its nice but only if you doing say trips with a suitcase ect its more like a manager driving round checking on workers type car. Loading pushbikes and even car parts oil ect. Its not gonna look good for too long.
Its not bad updates but toyota still lacks in odds and ends in my opinion
