Hopefully now that the trilogy is done Brian will get the recognition that he deserves among fantasy fans, this series is just so criminally underrated.
Brian Lee Durfee is such an underrated writer. I read his first book as soon as it came out and searched him out on Twitter to tell him how great it was. It was before he was known on UA-cam and he seemed so shocked and grateful that someone loved his book. So happy he went on to post daily on UA-cam. I love the guy. Such a talented writer and artist (and such a likable dude). He deserves way more notoriety than he gets.
I’m so happy for Durfee, it seems his books have been gaining a lot of attention lately in the community. I haven’t read them yet but I plan to, hopefully sometime next year! They sound like they would be right up my alley!
I put Mr Durfee on my top 3 authors all star list. He’s right there with Joe Abercrombie and Mr “been waiting 12 years for winds of winter” Martin….love this series! Love Brian He’s an epic talent
Thank you so much for posting this. I've just finished the trilogy and I seriously can NOT understand why this series is not getting more attention and love!?! It makes no sense to me. It's amazing.
Great review (as always) - I'm really happy that Brian stuck the landing for the "number one fantasy series in the history of the universe". Can't wait to start reading it myself.
Soooo happy to hear that it kicks ass (of course it does it's DURFEE!) and I can't wait to read it. I didn't even know you had read his books yet, maybe I did and forgot? Who knows! These books are seriously so damn good and more people need to read them.
Just finished listening to the whole trilogy today. What a fantastic trilogy. Had an essence of Berserk, definitely some LotR midway-amusingly-and the last third I would compare to a more violent/brutal version of FF VI where you enter the world of ruin. Just really well done and very satisfying. I’d be surprised if Durfee doesn’t make a fourth book with a potential time skip into the future. Seems there might be a set up for that, but that’s just my opinion. Really good reviews by you on all three! Just listened to those back-to-back as well.
I'm so happy it stuck the landing, I haven't read the trilogy because I wanted to see if it ended well and it only came to my attention lately but it seems like Brian Lee Durfee really knows what he's doing.
I have book 1 on my shelf, it's so huge and daunting but I will for sure get to it next year. Brian is such a cool dude in the community, love seeing all the praise for his work!
Brother, excellent review. I’m just finishing up the Lonesome Crown. What a amazing series! So good. I couldn’t of said this better. Brian Durfee seems like a great guy. Always appreciates his fans.
You could do an extra Episode of the top 100, of books you've read since locking the top 100 in, that would be in the top 100 and where they would rank.
Great review Matt! I’m so excited for this book! Brian lee durfee mentioned that he may write more books in this world! He said potentially a stand alone prequels and potential sequels too
Probably a top 5 favorite series for me and I expect this book to be not only my favorite book that comes out this year but also my favorite book I read this year
I need to stop watching your reviews, you make me wanna read every single book by the way you review them and speek so positive about them, i cant keep up!!!!! Amazing content Matt!
Another awesome review by you I'm reading The Lonesome Crown now and I can't wait to get to this battle, this series is So Good if this book sticks The Landing the way everyone says it will it'll be one of my all-time favorite and you were spot-on when you said this is a very dark dark series keep up the great work
Have mercy…can’t wait to get mine copy .I had it ordered thur books a million.then when the day came.no show.another day or goes by .get email saying don’t have it in stock and don’t know when they have it in .I canceled my order and going order thur someone else.thank you for your review ..honored for all you do ..love the cover of the book .maded me think of Drizzt and his cat and also a dark version of he man and battle cat..
I saw you comment about how great this is on Jimmy’s live stream with BLD last night. I’ve had book one on my shelf for a while, purchased book two and three last night. These just moved way up on my list and will be read in December.
I just finished Blackest Heart yesterday and I'm SO excited to read this one. Literally counting the days. Question: what else do you recommend that is along the lines of 5 Warrior Angels? I'm guessing John Gwynne and maybe Song of Fire and Ice. Anything else you'd recommend?
Definitely "Faithful and the Fallen" and "A Song of Ice and Fire". The author claims that Memory, Sorrow, Thorn is the biggest inspiration of his while writing this. I haven't read them but will soon.
I listened to them on Audiobooks/ Hoopla, Brian mentioned the audio for the Lonesome Crown is not coming out until May 2023. Also a great internet review to read before starting the Forgetting Moon is in Grim Dark Magazine!
Just came here to drop a like an a view. No need to hear past the couple first sentences, even if it is the spoiler free review :D Got to return to this video as soon as I've read the book. I've been reading fantasy since the early 90's and Brian Lee Durfee made this series so familiar for a reader of that era (more like fantasy from 70's to 90's). It was all oldschool hooks and feel, until it wasn't. It is baffling how something so strangely retro could be made so fresh. The fantasy fan and the aspiring writer in me both appreciate this trilogy immensely.
I loved the series but I'm the exact opposite with Liz Hen and Beer Mug. I thoroughly disliked Liz Hen and, though I love dogs, Beer Mug's knack for showing up in the ridiculous situations was...well, ridiculous. As well as the bulldog Cafe Colza. Other than that a well thought out conclusion
@Matt's Fantasy Book Reviews honestly, it's amazing! I got through it in 3 days, which, for me is unheard of😂 DONT READ ANYTHING ABOUT IT THOUGH... go into it completely "clean" lol.
I've finished the trilogy just right now And it was amazing It was epic Truly a great book series First book has its problems (if you can call them so) The main one was the too much cliffhangers But overall it was one the greatest book I've read especially in this genre Can you recommend another book like this 🙏

Fuck yes. Literally just finished my reread of the Forgetting moon, lost metal is out tonorrow. Then I will be rereading blackest heart before the 29th. I'm so glad it's as good as you say it is. Not shocked
@@MattsFantasyBookReviews Huh, would you mind giving me a link for that? I’ve never heard of it and I’m not sure which one is the right one. It sounds like it might prove useful in the future lol.
Thanks so much. Shared on Facebook.
Thank YOU for the wonderful read!
I've got your trilogy on deck :) Can't wait.
Hopefully now that the trilogy is done Brian will get the recognition that he deserves among fantasy fans, this series is just so criminally underrated.
Hear, hear! He deserved so much recognition for what he has accomplished here.
Brian Lee Durfee is such an underrated writer. I read his first book as soon as it came out and searched him out on Twitter to tell him how great it was. Yeah I couldn't agree with your comments more! Great dude that deserves ALL the notoriety!

Yeah this trilogy is something really, really special!
The Five Warrior Angels is absolutely the most underrated Fantasy series to be written. It is AWESOME. One of my favorites of all time

While it's huge, it's not super confusing and easy to binge.
I finished it and OMG I really want more story arcs for the characters. This is really a good series.
So glad you loved it!

Enjoy the ending, it rocks!
I'm so so happy to hear this! I really liked the first two books. Can't wait for the book to release so I can read it.
I hope you love it!
You’ve sold me on The Five Warrior Angels! Maybe 2023? The TBR grows ever longer…
Yeah sorry about that!
You described it as "Epic Epic..." so I have to read it now. Fun review.
Wow! I've been excited to start this series for a while and you got me way more hyped about it Matt!!! I'll get to this sometime in 2023!
Yes definitely check it out!
This review was so hype, it catapulted this story for me in my TBR list. What a review.
Thanks so much!
You could do an extra Episode of the top 100, of books you've read since locking the top 100 in, that would be in the top 100 and where they would rank.

I love a sincere, gushing review. I'm in on this series now. Starting this month.
I hope you love it!
Not until I finish the book will I believe can Liz Hen be liked and I hopefully will never have to say she is my favorite.
Yeah I didn't love her until the last book.
Thanks much for the detailed review. Your passion for this series sold me, I'll check it out. :)
YES! Mission accomplished.
I was sold anyway by what I've read of The Forgetting Moon but this review has just moved this trilogy way further up my TBR

On your top 10 video, you should do a honorable mention for books you recently read that would have made the list.
Yeah good idea.
Im definitely gonna read this series at Christmas when I get a kindle thanks to your reviews
Nice! I hope you love both these books and the kindle!

I want to buy it so much but cannot find the hardback edition, since I collect the first 2 volumes in HC.
Yeah the author made a video recently about some problems he is having getting the hardback printed. I don't know the details though.
I listened to them on Audiobooks/ Hoopla, Brian mentioned the audio for the Lonesome Crown is not coming out until May 2023. Also a great internet review to read before starting the Forgetting Moon is in Grim Dark Magazine!

Extremely well put!
i thought the ending was good, it didnt blow my mind. Also the ending was too short
Im halfway through it right now and omg its just breakneck. its criminal that this is the only review on youtube seemingly of this book!!
finished it and OMGGG
Faithful and the fallen is my favourite series and I’ve heard lots of comparisons to this. So you reckon this could be another banger for me?
Oh yeah. It's like a darker, bloodier version of Faithful and the Fallen.
Omg….I’m so f*cking excited now.
Hell yeah. Enjoy!
Yeah it was a little ridiculous how much he showed up at the perfect time.
Great review, how about making a video about books that should've be in the top 100 series after you finish it
Yeah good idea.
Waiting for it but i dont think i can get it anytime soon. Awesome review
Comes out soon!
@@MattsFantasyBookReviews waiting...
I'm so excited to start this series. Forgetting moon is on the way.
Question,
I know it's not fantasy, but have you read 'Project Hail Mary'?
I have not but I did read one of his previous works and liked it.
@Matt's Fantasy Book Reviews honestly, it's amazing! I got through it in 3 days, which, for me is unheard of😂
DONT READ ANYTHING ABOUT IT THOUGH... go into it completely "clean" lol.
I've finished the trilogy just right now
And it was amazing
It was epic
Truly a great book series
First book has its problems (if you can call them so)
The main one was the too much cliffhangers
But overall it was one the greatest book I've read especially in this genre
Can you recommend another book like this
🙏
The Faithful and the Fallen!
There is a chapter towards the end where he writes about a certain Knight who wasn’t feeling well that reads like a chapter he has been waiting his entire life to write.
10000% agreed!
Go buy all three, go buy all three... arg, oh well let's go!
SORRY! :)
Question here is. What is he writing next?
Not sure, maybe nothing. He is going blind due to an eye condition and this story was something he wanted to write for an enormous amount of time.
So why is underrated? Im new to fantasy books and dont see anybody talking about it. I will read it anyway.
Fuck yes. Literally just finished my reread of the Forgetting moon, lost metal is out tonorrow. Then I will be rereading blackest heart before the 29th. I'm so glad it's as good as you say it is. Not shocked
Hope you love it! I'm reading Lost Metal as well tomorrow.
Dangers of religion, you sold me there! Cool!
Yeah it's probably the main central theme here.
FYI it's November 29
Oh snap. Thanks!
Damn!! I do love some well-used profanity. :) And "Beer Mug"?! Come on!
Oh you are going to LOVE this book then.
Are his books in stores? Or just Amazon?
Both! But check with your local bookstore because they probably aren't everywhere.
Thank you!
You have no idea how jealous I am that you got to read this.
I randomly got approved on "edelweiss", which gives out early copies of ebooks. Check it out!

The dangers of religion & BELIEF in general.

Hahahahah I couldn’t stand the characters they drove me insane
