It's not like you have to choose. I like the first two Oasis albums and some solo Noel for the great tunes and occasionally memorable lyrics, whilst also finding that a lot of his lyrics are like word salad. He's obviously a very talented songwriter with a keen ear for what is commercial, and to me his main gift is melody. I also like Sleaford Mods, who remind me most of The Fall - lyrics like raw poetry and music more basic, a backdrop for the words. JW has the punk attitude of tear down the mainstream bands - with the punks it was Floyd, Genesis and Zeppelin, etc - whilst in most cases there was probably secret admiration.

Don't be fooled folks, this guy was never on the skids financially, no more than Brett Anderson or Jarvis Cocker. He's just decided to, after many years of honing his craft, deliver an artistic sentiment with an "edge".
This man goes shopping for very expensive clothes when he's in NYC or L.A. He is a relatively wealthy older man, like Noel, who has his tastes and this is the way he's chosen to present himself in order to sell his music. He actually comes across as quite on the spectrum, like a cut price Mark E Smith mixed with Greta Thunberg.

A song like Live Forever is obviously great but what I think the guy is trying to say is the fact those kind of lyrics are really quite broad whereas writing about specifics (E.g Arctic Monkey lyrics) is considered ‘More of a challenge’ so to speak. Where as Noel, when you analyse his lyrics you can see he lacks that side of things in writing. Still a legend tho of course.

Lyrics are for poets, that's why. And many of the great ones are shite at writing a tune or putting an arrangement together, so I wouldn't beat yourself up about it 🙂

Proper love jason and Sleaford Mods, but this just seems like the most pointless unwarranted answer, fair enough if you don’t like that sort of music Noel wrote, but it is important to have music like his, music that was left to be interpreted by the audience, and I think the majority would agree that he had a class talent. And even if you disagree, at least come up with a more coherent answer than jasons, it was just muttering.

I'd put Pulp above Oasis and Sleaford Mods for music and lyrics.
I don't put too much weight on lyrics though. Led Zeppelin musically are one of the most exciting bands of all time, but all that ohhhh baby baby bullshit is horrific. But my god the music they played. It makes Oasis sound so bland, which they were.
Noel Gallagher seems to think he’s up there with the best song writers and musicians in all music history. Simply put- he isn’t and never will be; he also takes himself very seriously these days.
He also hangs around with that prize arsehole Bono, that tells me all I need to know about NG.
I think someone referred to NG as Tory Gallagher, a fitting nickname for him I think.
Oasis definitely maybe was one of the greatest debut albums of all time. I didnt bother with the other albums as that first one still stands miles above the rest. But Oasis made it big time and have gone down in musical history. You cant take that away from him.
@@EsromFF True, Definitely Maybe was a stand out for its time; I would also say What's the Story was a good follow up. Other than that though, it was the law of diminishing returns.
NG is not the musical messiah he thinks he is, nor was he a particularly good guitarist. Competent- yes, but not great.

@@nox4298 as Noel himself introduced Wonderwall "here's another song with shit lyrics" you don't need to cherrypick from NG's back catalogue, his "good" lyrics are merely the exceptions that prove the general rule. His lyrics generally have no internal logic, part non sequitur, part world salad nonsense, part excruciatingly dull and predictable rhyming couplets with lazy Beatle references thrown in. The lyrics to Be Here Now is the archetypal Noel lyric.

And for the record I quite like that lyric, that line along with many others of theirs offer a no frills window into the crap lives many of us feel trapped in. as I said I really like oasis but their lyrics are too often filled with wistful bullshit thats not really about anything whereas the sleaford mods are consistently pointing out the dredge of modern life on the breadline which is something you can rarely find in the poetry and music of today. 99/100 people will prefer oasis and thats fine too, different strokes I suppose
