Senator Armstrong Is A Warped War Hawk

- This is a villain video tribute depicting the various scenes of Senator Steven Armstrong, my favorite character from the Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance game from the Metal Gear series. I positively adored Alastair Duncan's performance for the role and was fully entertained by Armstrong's philosophy of changing America into a land where only the strongest survive by tearing everything down. Hope you enjoy him!

The beauty of Armstrong is that the game sets him up to be a classic neocon warhawk but in the middle of the final battle he reveals his true intentions where to subvert the entire war for money thing so he could collapse the US and rebuilt it anew. He reveals he hated the wars for profit and Americans dying for congressmen and senators so much he's willing to burn America down so he can rebuild it, so that those kinds of wars never happen again. Yes, his methods where extreme and Raiden had every right to stop him, his plans where going to killing hundreds of thousands of US citizens in the ensuing collapse. But you can't say his actions weren't done out of pure patriotism and his own ideals, truly what he believed in. Sons of the Patriots can eat their hearts out, he was more of a patriot than any of them.
Honestly I'm of the opinion that, he's right. More people would've probably just ended up dying in the same way.
@@andersondalmeus1406 there ain’t much to really peg him as a neo con considering it’s mostly about war. However if we assume his ideas are all encompassing when it comes to the weak fearing the strong than his economic, and social views would be antithetical to a neo con. It could be argued he’s an objectivist. He’d also technically be an anarchist but a more bottom right quadrant one
@@andersondalmeus1406 neo cons often are very much opposed to full unrestricted rights like objectivism. Especially if we look at economic NC which doesn’t seek near unmitigated restrictions of the market like libertarians which are closer to objectivists than neo cons. Since you have an alternative if you were in Armstrong’s position your own idea is that of revolution as a new order takes up the new office. Than any new laws would be wins that could just as easily be challenged by a raiden or another Armstrong under a new banner. Only difference between you an Armstrong is his choice ultimately leads to top down lawless anarchy until tyranny of the strong while the your idea is a revolving door or violent over turning of government until you or someone else has the enough force or threat of it to stay in power with the laws now post hoc rationalizing your use of force
Honestly, if not for the pointless 'harvesting orphan brains' thing, I'd unironically want Armstrong to win. Just about everything he said was entirely right.
Basically Armstrong is going with "the outcome justifies the actions" and "fight fire with fire"
Damn, loses a hand and stabs the guy with his stump. This dude is awesome
Is anyone gonna talk about how invincible his glasses are? They never fall off or break. Wish I was that lucky

The fact that he actually looked so happy to think he had gotten through to Raiden, because he probably saw Raiden as a kindred spirit even before he said it at the end, and was so mad that was not true speaks volumes. In a way Armstrong is to Raiden what Boss was to Naked Snake. And who knows had this series continued maybe Raiden would've become Armstrong's successors in a way. Not using the same methods/mindset but going out of his way to end war with whatever methods he saw fit.
Not to mention he had gone through a trick like that before with Jetstream Sam, so it probably did hurt to see it happen twice like that, especially since Raiden wouldn't join no matter what he said
I love how you hear cheering after Armstrong kicks Raiden like a soccer ball like he scored a goal 🤣🤣🤣 "Don't fuck with this Senator!"
I like how he doesn't kill any fighter he fights, but tries to make them join him.
He could've killed raiden the moment he stepped foot on his machine, but he didn't.
I tried to kill jack he was just a slippery bastard. And jack broke the piece of shit metal gear fuck he even got big blade mode for fuck sake.
So you’re telling me this is the man that forged the Rings of Power?
Cripes... now imagine Talion being bonded with Armstrong instead of Celebrimbor!

Atreus: Hey, Armstrong. Do you have any cool stories to tell from your homeland?
Armstrong: Sure do, son! I once was in charge of a band of cyborg mercenaries called Winds of Destruction! Greatest bunch of freaks you'll ever meet! Especially the woman, Mistral.
Kratos: Was she a talented warrior?
Armstrong: An insane master with a polearm and various arms. She was an absolute freak in the battlefield AND in private, if you know catch my meaning! (laughs)
Atreus: Ew, gross, Mimir!
Kratos: I hope you did not consort with all Winds.
Armstrong: Hey, you're the Greek here, brother! No offense, but boy-loving is your thing and no one could ever pay ME enough to touch Sundowner, Monsoon or Sam, that Brazilian asshole. Now come on, let's find my body so you can attach my head back and I can help you kick Odin's bony candy-ass! _Fucking one-eyed pussy..._
Atreus: You don't actually sleep with men too, do you father?
Kratos: It was common in my homeland, but I never had that preference. My father and his kin were notorious for theirs, however...
Armstrong: And here I thought Alabama and Florida had it bad. Seriously, Kratos, I'm surprised you're a badass and not some inbred hillbilly!
Kratos: _One more word and I will toss you overboard._
9:16 it’s so surreal to hear Armstrong talk when he’s not screaming holy shit
Not 100% sure why, but I just really like the cutscene between Armstrong and Monsoon talking about the cherry blossoms. I guess it’s just fun seeing characters have a standard conversation.
It’s also a pretty fun metaphor for both of their perspectives on war

Alastair Duncan has some amazing range, it still amazes me he was Curtis Blackburn in Killer7. That dude would make another excellent video subject.
And now mimir in GOE
I love how mad Armstrong is at trees. "One fucking week".
Yet he likes Raiden and enjoys talking and fighting him. He's Angry at pink trees but not at a man who wants to murder him. A true war hawk.
Nice bit of foreshadowing at 1:54 to 2:15 on Armstrong's true beliefs if you pay attention.
He's not gloating. His tone makes it clear he finds the realities and apathy involved disgusting. It's hard trying to make the world any better when people don't want to think too hard about things.
You know, Armstrong is like the anti-Wilson Fisk/Kingpin. There's this speech Fisk gives in one of the comics to Spider-Man:
_"They, "society," hate you because they don't want your help. You remind them of how weak-willed and sheep-like and unspecial they are. How gleeful they are, deep down, to be ordinary. They don't want heroes. They don't want special people around them. Because if there are special people and they aren't one of them- well, who wants that? Who wants a constant reminder that they aren't even trying to be special? See, the difference between you and I is that you really are just a child. You benefit from the wide-eyed optimism of youth. I do envy that, somewhat. But... like many of your decisions in life... it's just naive. And I don't envy that harsh cold slap of reality that will come your way soon enough. But I guess it's inevitable. People don't want to be special. I do think that. It is my philosophy. They- _*_people want to be told what to do and how to live_*_ and they want _*_men like me_*_ to tell them. They want to go to work and do as little as they can possibly get away with, and they want a big cookie at the end of the day for doing it. And they want _*_men like me_*_ to give it to them."_
Armstrong knows humans are apathetic, lazy and have a major Tall Poppy Syndrome. However, rather than just take advantage, accept having no principles and gloat in that, he wants to use their apathy to undo the whole system.
You know what, seeing a crossover where Armstrong is a Marvel Villain would be awesome. Especially when dealing with things like the Mutants or the Civil War over Super Registration/Sokovia Accords. The Avengers and X-Men wouldn't known what the hell to make of him: a bad guy who fights for dominion and chaos a la Apocalypse, but would side up with them against the likes of SHIELD, HYDRA, Sentinels and the human governments because they're just cowards afraid of change. Imagine an alliance between him and Dr. Doom. He'd also make an awesome villain for Hulk and Black Panther. Heck, imagine Armstrong vs. Thanos.
Thanos: When I'm done, half of humanity will still exist, and etc....
Armstrong: You get omnipotence all you wanna do is kill half everything to avoid overpopulation?! What a fucking pussy!!
Very good!
Impressive, very nice.
Very good!
The only point I would disagree with, is that Armstrong would at the very least, respect Thanos strengh of will to act on his beliefs. Remember Armstrong only wants people to fight and die for what they believe. Anything else beyond that is up to the individual/individuals. So it would be more like this.
Thanos: I'm gonna to erase half of all life, to save existence itself!
Armstrong: Pfft. Cool story bro. Might actually do some good, but don't expect me to fade into dust. *Flying Superman punch, to his big purple chin.*
@@JAMON523
True. But I still think Armstrong would find Thanos' ideal of killing half the verse cause overpopulation logically and logistically dumb. He'd respect Thanos for his power and determination for sure, but that would be it.
"Saucy jack" refers to a letter sent to Scotland Yard supposedly signed by Jack the Ripper
Ya know, if not for the "harvesting orphan brains" thing, I'd actually want Armstrong to win. 🤔
Sad thing is, by his mentality, he was helping these children by making them strong, trained warriors to survive and thrive in his new world.
Can’t believe it took me this long to figure out his powers are from the guy from full metal alchemist

Could we possibly see Deathshead from Wolfenstein: The New Order in a video?
I would but honestly there isn't a lot of scenes for Deathshead. It would feel to short for me since Deathshead doesn't have too many successful villainous scenes other than cutting open Wyatt and Fergus' heads or just plain getting killed by Blazkowitz. If you want to see what I mean look here: ua-cam.com/video/vuhr_V4nu5U/v-deo.html&index=98&list=PLtB7AvImomCA2dDUN1xpSLw4wcGsCOHrW
Ahh. I haven't beaten the game so I didn't know how long he was really on-screen. I just really like him as a villain and I thought he'd be cool to see
Oh he is, but I wish he had more exposure than just as a behind the scenes mad scientist who does something evil and then runs away.

He is not perfect.
More video game villains please! Andrew Ryan definitely deserves one.
Nah. Though he is a great villain making a video of him would be problematic because he mostly communicates through audio logs. Makes it hard to filter out the surrounding noise at times. Not to mention it's splintered about between games which makes it difficult to create a coherent video. If you want to know what I mean, watch this video: ua-cam.com/video/A5UwDuadiZY/v-deo.html
