This final track of this special Segun Akinola Doctor Who Prom project brings the concert to a close with the beautiful, bittersweet but hopeful regeneration of the Thirteenth Doctor. All music here is taken from the track "She's The Doctor", which in itself is based entirely on Segun's original theme for Thirteen (his audition for the show)
This is the final part of a "Doctor Who" Prom concept featuring Segun Akinola's music for the Thirteenth Doctor, in a similar style to Murray Gold's Proms during his first time composing for the show.

Gosh I didn't realise this was Segun's audition, its such a beautiful piece, no wonder he got the job! Its such a hopeful track but also wistful and tinged with a little sadness now that his era is over. Grateful for what we did have though. Love the original and a lovely rendition here as well - brought a tear to my eye.
I'm really going to miss Segun Akinola's Doctor Who musical contributions. It provided a depth and beauty to the Chibnall year of DW. I always liked Murray Gold's material too, but Segun Akinola's music is beautiful and meaningful. Jodi's Doctor was brilliant and this music produced a synergy between the Doctor and the many things we still don't know after 60 years.
So am I. I know he was often maligned with complaints that his music was boring or bland but I think it was just more subtle, and more integrated into the scenes than Gold's more head on stuff (nothing wrong with that of course, he's also a terrific composer, just a different style). It seemed there were a section of fans who are either tied into Gold because that's all they know or just weren't listening hard enough. I loved hearing Akinola's interpretations and from bts what he described as 'experiments' in a more ambient, soundscape style - reminded me somewhat of the Classic Who scores that felt really 'alien' and otherworldly. I really enjoyed the years he gave us with his contribution to Who history, 'Thirteen' is probably one of my favourite Who themes and all of his variations on this theme were just as wonderful. I was happy that the scene of the regeneration finally gave us Thirteens theme in its entirety and everyone could at last appreciate how great the score was.
@@hotdog1214Agreed. Murray Gold does amazing music, but sometimes it'd end up the same motifs over and over (Mad Man in a Box anyone?) and so much of Doctor Who didn't need bombastic, but instead calm, serenity, pathos. Segun Akinola did it beautifully, right down to The 13th Doctor's Theme

really like hearing covers of doctor who soundtracks! especially jodie's theme. really interesting how you made this cover longer than the actual regeneration part, quite an awesome touch!
That was amazing, my only regret is that I didn't find out about the whole project sooner.

Suddenly this sounds exactly like the Doctor Who music from 2005-2017. The singing at 5:40 is very similar to The Doctor's Theme and Vale Decem. I heard rumours Segun Akinola was at the event of Doctor Who music alongside Murray, the National Orchestra of Wales and Alistair King. I have a strong suspicion they'll play this and it'll sound very much like @dwsonicsounds has done this. That's how good this is.
I was at the concert, sat next to Akinola, and indeed a segment of this track played during his suite. He's arranged it in a much more creative way than I have, my orchestration here is very similar to the episode itself, whereas his concert completely changed it up, the vocals are doing the chords and the strings/wood take charge of 13's theme which is originally sung in the episode.
@@dwSonicSounds wow I bet it was an unbelievable experience to hear all the music from both Murray and Segun in one concert. I cannot wait to hear it on BBC R2. And to be sat next to Segun too, wow.

Sorry mate, this is the last one! I don’t really know how they’d do his theme in a concert, other than using synthesisers - but that’s something this project has completely avoided!
