I am 54 years old. I have watched the Doctor all my life and it is my opinion that this is the best piece of music ever written for Doctor Who. and the storyline could well be the best ever also.
I agree with you mate. This and Rose’s theme. David and Rose have a very very special place in my heart from watching them since I was a kid. I just finished watching Doomsday. Hearing her say she loved him and he tried to say it back to her, but being cut off and left in his lonesome and silence in the Tardis gets me every time. That and his regeneration which I know I’ll ball my eyes out too as well. Doctor Who will always have a special place in my heart. Forever.
I don't understand this. Every damn time I see something about Rose/Ten and/or hear this song especially, I have this ache in my heart. I have never been so emotionally scarred by a Entertainment Media in the way I feel about Doctor Who, specifically this era. Damn feelings.
@@2323-n2n Lmao, a season 2 hater, how unexpected. Rose may have been self-centred sometimes, but how is that bad? I mean, do you prefer the Mary Sues of the Moffat era, or perhaps the cardboard cut-outs that are the 'fam' in the Chibnal era the show is currently dying in? Rose was one of the most human companions, and it's obvious why she is a fan favourite.
Well considering in 2005 when he started working on DW he was based in a small apartment studio in London, and then 2007 moved to a luxury high rise apartment in New York City, I'm pretty sure it's safe to say he got VERY well paid ;)
My whole life ive wanted to go to a live performance of Murray's music and never had the chance. Now theres a 2024 prom and i booked tickets in the first hour of being available. Ive always wanted to hear this live. I think i will honestly cry!
someone, somewhere in those crowd down there is sobbing quietly with feels and when 3:28 hits, the damn feels that bottled up for damn too long burst and start banging her/his along to the tune~ *me*
This is one of the most under-rated pieces of music I know. Murray Gold's music is truly amazing and deserves more recognition, this is just beautiful! And Melanie has such a gorgeous voice to go with the stunning music too!
This is such a beautiful and fantastic song. I go through so many emotions while listening to this. I have never heard sadness and melancholy portrayed so passionately before.
My god the control in her voice is amazing. :O People don't realize it, but singing is a lot harder than it seems. It takes a lot of work and practice to be able to sing with a good tone, good breath support, and perfect notes consistently. Of course, over the years it gets easier, but still. She is amazing here. :O And I love the bass-line under her voice, and the drums over both. Just an amazing piece of music in general. -3
All I heard while listening to this was Rose screaming 'Take me back!' It's truly an emotional moment for David and Billie, knowing that they probably won't even see each other again. *Insert River saying 'spoilers!'* Until if course they're briefly reunited later in series 4
It'd be an honour to be in that audience, I'd be crying with joy of being there to see it live and sadness because of the memories it brings. Doctor Who brings so many special things to our lives, what a masterpiece!
@BeccaJing Like you I'm an American who absolutely loves Doctor Who. Been watching on the PBS channels since the early 80's and was so glad to see it have a nice comeback in the 2000's. Rose is awesome, but my favorite will always be Donna.
+Andrew Wells I can't even pick my favourite. There are at least 3 (usually more) awesome tracks in every series. I have every OST on CD and I can't wait for S9 soundtrack.
Seeing this, and all of those people who are fans of the greatest show ever made, is truly amazing! Doctor Who is and will always be a huge mark in the history on television.
@chipiecqt Yes, it's David Tennant! You can watch him (and a few members of the cast and crew in the audience too!) give the introduction to the concert in the UA-cam video: doctor who cardiff concert 2006 part 1 (alas, no URL is allowed here)
I can honestly say that's the first time I've seen a concert pianist having a petty argument on UA-cam. Here's me thinking they would be above all that. Guess not. Anyhow, this video is great!
AWWW THE FEELS! I'VE NEVER CRIED AT A TV SHOW! Why you people got to make it so sad! let die in peace! dang it bbc you make me cry at every season final.
the TARDIS translates that as: this music helped me to think and also that you have a beautiful woman I love and his tone is amazing is that is professional but it was hard Curran, I love the series and its music
Clarification: I said that the woman singing didn't have much control over her voice. I am not saying she cannot sing. politicalprincess1 was using foul and unnecessary language, which I have never heard a pianist use, not to mention getting involved in the first place. I regret saying the part "I know music" because that just made me sound full of myself, but I stand by what I said about the control.
@DemonicC0ward.. it's not an editing error or a live jinx. Just listen to the OST CD it's also out of sync. Out of sync is a well-known trick used when emphasizing climax moments (listen to Zimmer's Inception for instance).
I wouldn't quite use the words DemonicC0ward uses, but to be fair, I think he/she does know about syncopation. And I'd agree with him/her that Murray *is* out of sync on this track, in a slightly hesitant, not-all-that-musical way. It may indeed be an editing error with different microphones out of sync. I know from personal experience that this happened to the brass in the broadcast version of This is Gallifrey at the 2010 proms - it wasn't out of sync at the actual performance. Or (less likely) he may be nervous or (slightly more likely) confused by various inputs - e.g. in ear mic vs the orchestra around him - or whatever. I don't think this detracts in any way from Murray's status - again, it may actually be completely out of his control. On the contrary: He can do better than this.
Have to agree with StGeorgesofMons, I heard the out of sync bit on the actual episodes that used this music. Probably a bit before this live performance.
Ooh,my God!!!This is...It`s not... I mean, it`s .....I don`t know ,it`s all sort of.....I don`t even know what the word is !!! I even cried!!!slightly .....Adorably....
Well David is married to the girl who played his daughter in the Doctor's Daughter episode, who is also the daughter of the 5th Doctor, who is Tennant's favorite Doctor... o_0
This got me till Reinette showed up wtf? This song is about heartbreak and lovers separation( Rose and the Doctor) and they go and put REINETTE THERE OF ALL PEOPLE! I got really mad, though the song is as always beautiful!!
It's not lovers and separation, it's *Rose*, and her story. Listen closely when she enters the TARDIS for the first time in the first episode of season one---this song plays, or at least a small snippet does. And Reinette was there because she was a part of Rose's story, and caused strife between Rose and the Doctor, however terribly that episode was written. Reinette was relevant to Rose's story, so she was there.
It took me this long to realise that the voice is like a sad lone howling wolf... Bad Wolf
😳whatttttt Omg how did I not realise, truly amazing
Mind blown by this realization.
wow

Lani Alvarado because it’s quality and huge production cost
We can remove emotions with a upgrade
Yeah 9 and 10s era was true doctor who and when rose left it ended the best years doctor who had
Season 2 wasn't very good and Rose a self centred piece of shit.

One of the most beautiful, tragic and heart touching tunes ever. God, I want to cry.
I've got tissues. A little late, but please take them. 😭🤧
I did😂
15 years later, I still get goosebumps from this episode
It was a great series my favourite is the girl in the fireplace
18 years later, i agree
I hope Murray Gold is getting paid well for his work because he makes masterpieces each and every week. This is my very favorite of the bunch.

Rose, come back!!!
13 years later...it's bloody brilliant. The Doctor Who Bond Theme. Superb.

This song turned heartache into a sound. Murray Gold was a genius
love the bassline especially at this track

I'd be sat there sobbing my heart out.
Actually amazing.
This piece of Music made Murray a legend!
i still tear up when i see rose beating the wall or tennant leaning at it lol
Those were happy times...
one of the most perfectly composed and conducted sounds I ever ever heard
Does this Orchestra know what song they created? The ultimate! The ultimate song, is what they created. It is to be always known!
Спасибо Вам Мюррей. Эту композицию я запомню навсегда,очень на это надеюсь.

JUST LOVE THIS !!! ive worked on who too but this just gets me every time.
This song brings chills.
Absolutely beautiful.
The pianist is Murray Gold. He wrote this.
Is it David Tennant that talks at the beginning or its just my hears thinking only about his voice? :P
Wondering too
@@MsTheGhostwriteri think it’s him, if you watch to the very end, he walks out in his brown incarnation suit
Just epic!
Wonderful music!!! I would love to be there and hear live performance. :) Love Doctor Who!
I hope some day I get to here this live....so emotional/ cool.
esta música me ayudo a pensar y ademas esa mujer tiene una vos preciosa me encanta y su tono es increíble se que es profesional pero se lo tuvo que currar duro, me encanta la serie y sus músicas

Gohan? Gohaaan!! GOOOHHAAAAAAAAAAAN!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
I'd find that big TV screen showing bits of "some TV programme" very distracting.
Oh... very discrete microphone you've got there Melanie!
Well David is married to the girl who played his daughter in the Doctor's Daughter episode, who is also the daughter of the 5th Doctor, who is Tennant's favorite Doctor... o_0
I Think Melanie's key is a bit off and she was singing a bit to fast at times as well
Apples Got Swag I'm guessing she doesn't have any guidance since the conductor is at the stage level which can make staying in tempo a lot harder.
sounds nervous
@@iz723 Likely as she is used to singing in a recording booth where she can make mistakes.
Yep. he was kind of the host in this concert.
I am curious why the Beeb didn't have music credits at the end of the episode like many other show do.

im from the futer so its 2016386
is that david announcing it??
Yup - he probs hosted this
yep i think it is

oh my. how big is the audience? :o
Is there a full video of this whole concert?
Yes, I know that.
But I still ship David Tennant and Billie Piper.
Don't say that...It will bring back bad memories of his parents!
I know he wrote this dude, but it's kind out of sync, I don't know if it's a editing error or the live playing (3:38)
now i am sad
why do they show the clip of rinette and the doctor ;(... buut rooseee
Billy Piper forever!!

That bassist needs some practice
needs to play to a metronome for a long time. first thing i noticed was his timing
the bass needs to be amped up!!
How about we end this parody of a discussion right now?
I dont believe we cant hear the cellos. And they left the guitar out. ugh.
But its beautiful either way. ):
+TheMunchFan get it right it's an orchestra not a fucking band
As you can see I'm a big enough fan of the orchestra + wales + doctor who I care
