The only times I have seen the stage lit by the flag colours are in 2017 and 2023. I do not mention 2019 because that was a ceiling lighting and 2021 because the lights were AR effects. Now, I wonder was it too difficult to think of lighting the stage in previous years or was it a part of the design not to? Thank you Liverpool for a beautiful contest in 2023. I think it's a beautiful abstract representation of the country's colours, with the flag abstract on the right hand side being true to all the flags save for two (Cyprus & San Marino, where the design reads right-to-left instead of left-to-right). Kinda similar to the abstract use of the colours in the Sweden 2013 with the butterflies taking a unique design based on the flag. My only qualm is the additional red stripe on the left of Malta's colours on the right; they couldve expanded the white bar to show a bit more of the George Cross.
My only complaint is why they did put some flag features on some countries but not in all of them? San Marino for instance... nobody remembers the yellow on the flag because is part of the shield, so the predominant colors are blue and white. This also applies in Malta where they could have used the cross instead of making it look like Poland. Also there was no need of yellow in Portugal since again, like San Marino, the predominant colors are two, red and green, so it doesn't look exactly like Lithuania. Croatia and Slovenia got their shields but Serbia didn't. I like this design but it feels like they've put effort on some flags while at the same time they've did nothing to some other flags. It felt inconsistent despite being a cool concept.

This design looks really bad. You can't even recognize any of the flags except for the part on the right, where a major part of the flag still got cut off. Swedish Flag looks like Ukrainien and many more. Just bad. Why even use country flags if you don't show them as they look. Mixing the colors up in random order - it's not the flag then anymore.

Despite how Reiley performed through the television, I'm really happy the arena loudly gave him a very loud cheer before hand.
him being the first song of the show also probably helped, austria got a big cheer in the final.
