Ran one for years. Case, I thought had the smoothest hydraulics. And when you got used to it........ the foot swing was the cats ass!! The one's that were a pain in the ass as far as backhoe control were the old 3000-7500 series Fords. Having a full bucket of dirt with the forearm extended, and then snap shutting a valve would almost always guarantee to rupture a hydraulic hose!! Then came the 555 Ford. They were much more user friendly.
I can run both...but I'll be honest and say that a properly worn 4stick case is so smooth...takes some getting used to...but hell yeah...i miss the 4 stick machines
@copperheadmarine your right the radio kicked my ass, I couldn't even figure out how to cut the damn thing on! LOL and I don't like having to get out to shift the stuck gear shifter haha
@letsdig18 chris thats the (pro control system) you were running. i think case gave it the right name. a trick to running the pro controls is run every control at the same time
I learned on a Ford 4500 4 stick, don't care for the Case 3 stick, 2 sticks are great and hopefully you have the switch to convert from ISO to SAE in the "furrun" made stuff.Try running an old Bucyrus cable Dragline that combines different levers for winches and footpedals for braking or slowing a line, make it all look smooth and don't snarl a winch. Good days work or I should say workout!!
@letsdig18 Any particular motor grader? Maybe and old 562-b Champion with AC and a kick ass radio? Oh and double the HP than any other 562 in existance? OR no not that one?
Idle it down, & it will be smother till you learn the controlls...wont have as much digging power, and swing will be slower, but to learn forget about idleing it up.
A machine you couldnt run smoothly Chris! Well, had to happen sometime I suppose. From what it sounds like that machine is a royal pain in the ass to run!! Unless you well used to it? Seems kinda like the set-up on Mercedes-Benz Unimog's fitted backhoes. Five sticks and foot swings.
Does any one have any info on replacing the 4 stick control hoses. My bro thought he was helping but forgot the pattern to reinstall them. diggerdave51 hear my plea!
Is this machine from the 1980? Or is it newer, if so why is it 4 stick? I'm from scandinavia and have never seen a 4 stick in my life, thought it was rather interesting. Going to be lerning how to drive backhoe loader in the beginning of Januari next year. Sorry for grammer errors or crappy spelling, English is a second language for me.
I've never used the joystick type of backhoe. I used a 1969 Ford 4500, years ago. And now I use a 1965 Case 530CK.

Like operating shaker blades & trenchers..you get feel of machines. All are different. I think he did good. I miss operating machines sometimes.
Hell yeah! That's what I grew up on! But now I've been spoiled by joysticks.
+PA diecast construction Same here.
@diggerdave51 this one had 4 sticks in it along with the foot swing. someone just told me it was called a 3 stick

i've never operated a 4 stick backhoe and DONT want to either
I much prefer joystick, but own a Case 580 Super E and love it

My dad taught me on the 3 stick 416 a cat. Last one I ran was the 580 super L
we have one of these on our farm and i have put on alot of hours burying pipe.. it takes a real man to run a 4 sticker

I learned on one just like that sept someone plumbed the bucket backward so had to dedicate one hand just to it.

Don't worry, these things are not done for a professional digger operator!
bah give him a couple hours and heel hav it down/course ive tried runnin deere controls and cant hit the ground :D
@Diggerkid Give me a week and I think I'd be pretty good at it, still aint as hard as grading with a motor grader
Hey don't feel bad, I can pick your pocket with a footswing Case, but can't seem to make wobble sticks do what I want!!!
Same
If you cross your arms you can run a 3 stick, same with wobble sticks if your used to 3 stick!!
sounds kinda like running a log crane?
4 stick with the swing foot is easy, just as easy as joystick
Awsome do you have a backhoe??
lmao this is wat i learned on and im only 17 and started wen i was like 14. It was a little tough at first but u get used to it haa

4 stick is a trick to learn im only 17 and can run 4 stick almost as good as a guy i know who been on them 4 ever learning them takes time
