I think it's worth watching 'Sticky Hulks' from the same show. The guitar sounds great on this track. What about performances in small venues? House of Strombo, Power Trip 'Executioner's Tax'. I'm surprised the walls held up. It's getting a little sad because Riley Gale has been gone for three years. The music stayed.
Thanks for checking it out! Cool to hear your perspective! Lots of cross over with Gizzard but definitely on the garage punk Nonogon side of the house.
Heck yeah, Oh Sees are great! They change their name almost as often as they put out a new album, haha. John Dwyer is a super creative guy, and a very good guitarist. He can shred, he can jam, he can do all sorts of weird little sound tricks with his gear. And as you noticed he loves to mix up his vocals - he does low growling, raspy creepy whispering, falsetto, whatever he thinks will fit the song. He's a big fantasy/D&D nerd as you can tell from the D20 knobs on his SG here. As you also noticed though he really loves his noise, so some of his more experimental songs are kinda tough to get into at first. As others mentioned he's also a big inspiration for early King Gizz, though thankfully they quickly found their own sound. Both bands have massive discographies full of really neat stuff. If you wanna check out more then I would second Sticky Hulks from this same KEXP set, or maybe Animated Violence from Endless Daze 2017 if you wanna see a great dual drummer song!
Defiantly one of my favourite bands along with King Gizz, first heard The Dream on GTA 5 radio which peaked my interest. They have some really groovy tracks sprinkled through their albums. They added a couple more band members in recent years and now have two drummers and synth keyboard which adds more layers. Very much California garage surf punk vibes but defiantly own their own sound. The Levitation Sessions Vol.1 on youtube gives a nice cross section of their stuff if people are looking for an easy in.
king gizzard adapted some of dwyers habits on singing and playing, if you watch their live shows before ~2017 or listen to older records ull notice it definitely
100% agree with others who said to check out “Sticky Hulks” from this same show and “Animated Violence” live at desert daze 2017. Both very different from this song and I think they’ll be more up your alley.
Osees are on top of KG for me but just a bit. Both are great and both dip into similar things but the heaviness of Osees take it for me. Even tough they have lighter sounding albums that i love just as much. almost as big of a rabbit hole to fall in as KG
@@Comrade.Question Really? As far as i know it was broken and they can't make a new one because gibson threatened them with a lawsuit. Its at least what ive heard, dont know if its true.
@@RegularDude00 That might be part of it, I just saw an interview where he said he was turning into an old man and the weight was hurting his shoulder.
Eh damn, their newer stuff is way more proggy (except the last 2 have been punk) and has the dual drumming going. This is still a classic though, and Dwyer is one of the sickest guitarists out there right now.
yeah Oh Sees lean heavy into punk with a few heavy psych rock elements dashed in. i recommend A Foul Form for pure Black flag vibe Smote Reverser by thee oh Sees is a pretty solid prog album.
That SG is in fact solid plexiglass and the neck is aluminum so yeah it’s probably like having a bag of bricks wrapped around your neck 😂 It was made by a company called EGC but sadly John has retired it for an old red Gibson Melody Maker because it was getting to be a hassle maintaining it for gigs (he apparently would have to let it sit open in the case for like an hour before a show or it would go out of tune constantly) but he has a few other guitars including a super faded Pelham blue SG Before the SG though he used to strictly play this Burns 12 string guitar man it was so ugly but definitely unique 😂
Sorry I know this doesn't directly relate to this video, but it's your latest one and you're more likely to see it lol, but have you thought / would you ever react to Sleep Token? Like Ghost, they're a masked band. They're so many genres in one, and the best examples of that (imo) are, 'Take Me Back to Eden', 'The Summoning', 'Ascentionism' and 'Higher'. They blend metal, pop, RnB, rap and rock all together in ONE SONG sometimes lol. They're British based, and the lead Singer goes by Vessel, then there's I, II, III and IV who help perform live. Their lore in the smallest nutshell is that they worship a deity who's name is so complex, the cloest / easiest translation of it is 'Sleep' and the lead singer is a 'Vessel' through song writing and music. If I had to pick one for you to begin with, I'd choose 'Take Me Back to Eden' (the title of their latest album) or 'The Summoning' which went viral earlier this year for suprising everyone with how many genres / sounds it pulled off. They're super interestingand worth a listen to :)
Yea I dig sleep token, Ive been into them since before I started my channel…their tracks Jaws was the one that sold me…unfortunately I e tried to do some reactions to their newer tracks and Ive always got blocked
Just wait untill you see king gizz go hard live. A lot of their earlier work is heavily influenced by this band and they bring the same energy to the table every show
Osees are similar to gizz very prolific and genre bendy. They have more prog, more psych, more folk and more punk sounding albums depending what your talking about
Toe Cutter, Thumb Buster is a fucking bop. Also, you've probably heard their song Tidal Wave in the best scene in Breaking Bad (the one in Mexico around a pool).
Animated Violence next!
Yes!! Specifically the endless daze 2017 Live Version
@@nothinginmyway5568hell yea was gonna say gotta do that version you can especially appreciate the double drumming on that version
@@Kablistikai yessss that's exactly why I recommend it
Haha, love your reaction! Probably cause we're both high. Thee Oh Sees are my favorite band, I'm glad you were able to feel that energy right away.

Dude, love the Oh Sees... check out their various Levitation sessions from the past few years. Another prolific band to get lost in

Second endless daze animated violence. One of their best showcases of the dual drumming.
also i remember reading somewhere that dwyer draws all the album covers himself

Dude you gotta check out their performance of the dream on endless daze, the drummers are literally steaming !
Yeah this is one of those speeding ticket songs.
Look up Stu screaming at french people. Stu makes love to his mic lol
LISTEN TO WEB AND GELATINOUS CUBE BY THEM

It's worth listening to the studio version. I find I like John's high voice more when it's in the studio setting anyway.
I think the guitar is an dan Armstrong ampeg. It's a lucite body and metal neck and headstock, and they are heavy as fuck
It's from EGC, but yeah heavy as fuck that's why he switched to that double cut Les Paul.

John Dwyer is the best Guitarist IMO
This is my first exposure to Ohsees and this sucks lol
The studio version is cleaner. Still not "clean," but a lot less messy of a sound to it.
