The mic is wrapped in a handkerchief as a courtesy to the roadies during peak virus times. This and a couple of other sessions on YT were recorded when live music was pretty much still shut down.
Their new album Sorcs 80 is 100% drums. Whole album is the alien perspective of arriving on earth and observing to only realize humans suck and we should all die. Kicks ass.Wish I coulda seen them in October but cancelled because of the hurricane.
I think the band name changes is due to when there's a significant change to the line-up of the band. they've been OSEES since they added the keyboard player
@@nothinginmyway5568not sure about that. Protean Threat came out a couple days before this performance. they were already OSEES with Protean Threat and I have the vinyl for this release and the name on the spine is OSEES. even the actual UA-cam video for this performance says OSEES, but RDR put "OH SEES" in his title
@@tillzillz yeah what I meant is they added the keyboard player before they changed to Osees. When Smote Reverser came out in 2018 they were still Oh Sees and Tom was already on the official line-up
those keyboards might be midi, but there are also micro synths that don't require a computer which have the smaller keyboard setup like some midi controllers/keyboards do
Please give some of their studio tracks a chance. I think you'd really love the albums Protean Threat (loads of grooving bass, drums, and synths), Face Stabber (progressive shit), and the very brief A Foul Form (fast and furious punk). And then Orc, Mutilator Defeated at Last, Floating Coffin, and A Weird Exits. Basically just listen to everything. John's vocals typically aren't the best live but in the studio they're always solid.
Yeah the strap down to the knees is how to fuck your back up haha. I play my guitar unfashionably high, but not to John's extent. It's definitely dice he's using for his knobs there, but all I can see is Kung Pow and Betty's stupid little chest pyramids that grant him power haha!
They are so much fun live. Crazy high energy.
Been loving Osees recently, so happy to see this video!
Saw Thee Oh Sees in Melbourne back in 2019, found out about them from the King Gizz fan group. Killer band!
Those are midi keyboards controlling modular synth's.
Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the knobs on Dwyer's guitar are actually dnd die you got it spot on

Hell yeah thanks for checking them out again!! Been loving your takes on the music I like

@@nothinginmyway5568 got it. I guess the name change is not due to the line-up but rather more on JD's whim?

Henchlock Live on KEXP is the best!!!
This is great stuff
If you want an awesome Osees drumming song, check Man in a Suitcase. Usually their sound check song which is crazy to me.

@@rockdariff I’m glad you knew what I meant by that reference haha
i think they kinda change the name when they start to follow a different direction. Its like different eras of the same project.
Changing their name constantly is indeed a gag John likes to do, if I'm not wrong I read somewhere that he does that just to mess up with the media
