I just found your videos and I am very impressed! I'm a disabled vet and I travel most of the year and watching travel videos is a way to get good ideas of where to go. Great quality videos keep up the good work!✌️
Same with horseshoe bend. Less than 10 years ago, you could go and be the only car in the very small parking lot. Since then, the parking lot grows every time I go.
My wife and I are headed to Grand Teton for the third time in July. This place is one of the most beautiful parks we have. Seeing a bear on a trail will make your hair stand up on end. Great video you two!!!
Ian and Ana... another great video!! Love the Grand Teton's. They remind me of the rugged Alps. Did you get rid of the Wootmobile yet? Looking forward to your new videos... ~Gary in Michigan.
That is so exciting! Hopefully our videos will help a bit with your trip! Or atleast get you pumped up WOOT WOOT! Just got to Utah so Bryce Canyon and Zion videos will be coming
So glad you all are back! Your videos are next level for sure. Really enjoying your USA adventures. My wife and I have traveled across the US several times camping in a little pop up and have enjoyed many PB&J's along the way. Thanks for posting such great videos.
Ben this comment made our day so thank you!! That’s awesome that your wife and you have road tripped a ton. Where were your favorite spots along the way? PB&Js are LIFE on the road haha 😂
@@ian.and.ana. so many great places. We loved Yellowstone, Badlands, tetons but we're not able to hike as much as you guys do because of our dog. ( Could not leave him in pop up.) We just got an old Toyota RV so he can stay there now. Check out the Narrows hike in Zion NP and for something unusual check out Craters of the Moon National Monument and Reserve. We really love the pace and vibe of your videos!
I am a bit late to this but as someone who lives in this area, it is always recommended especially hiking in the Tetons and Yellowstone that you always carry two cans of bear spray for two people. One can will empty in about 8 seconds. If a bear/or other animals continue to attack you will not have another form of defense for escape. Generally in the Tetons you will see tons of black bears, it's hard to see if that was a grizzly or not and it is brown in color so could have been a brown bear as well. Just an FYI. Enjoyed your video.
Awesome video. My college buddies and I are planning a trip here once school gets done. Thanks! Do you remember the name of the free campsite you stayed at by chance?
First of all, that was a black bear. I paused your video at the 6:29 mark to make positive identification before posting this commentary. Very large ears, no hump between the shoulder blades, long narrow snout and the most important thing of all, it let you pass right on by without incident. That is not typical behavior with a grizzly. A grizzly will always attack you at the distance in your video. Your safety zone with a grizzly is 100 yards (football field). Black bear distance is about 50 yards and you were well within that zone. You would have suffered greatly had that been a grizzly. Secondly, you said you did not know what to do but calmly pass around the trail. If you ever encounter a large animal on the trail, bear, moose, elk, etc...always STOP. You have no idea if that animal has offspring nearby and you could inadvertently get between them passing by around the trail and cause the mother to charge out of protection. Your only protection with your encounter is the two hikers in front of you because they pressured the animal by closing the distance and they most likely would have been attacked first. That bear chose to move away. In your video I didn't see one person with bear spray in hand ready to fire. I did see a phone from a distance of about 15 yards. Based on your actions you guys and the others in this video seem to have no idea of the real danger you encountered.
That's what I was thinking, too. I don't think a lot of people realize that black bears can actually have brown fur. The name "black" bear is misleading. Can't rely on fur color to identify them. Definitely no shoulder hump on that one. And yeah, if you're gonna go out into the wilderness, it's a good idea to study up on all the safety measures to take, not just for grizzlies, but any wild animal.
Yeah... These videos are superficial fluff. There's no research, no information about the places being visited. They just stumble through each place. Everything is focused on ordinary personalities. Very sad.
Great video, but I feel obligated to chime in on a couple things so your viewers make good decisions in GTNP. You have to give bears more space. The bear @ 6:25 was a black during its blond phase. Had it been a real grizzly, that group of hikers walking 20ft next to it would have had a rough day. The park service official guideline says 100 yards of space for bears. Also, that particular lake is not recommended for swimming. That cloudy, blue milky means direct runoff from an active glacier, which means chill, and not the Netflix kind. In 40 degree water you lose dexterity and cognitive ability fast. Also, those jagged landslide debris rocks suck. String Lake - along the base of the mountains- is a much better swim spot, shallow, sandy, less bone chilling than surrounding waters. Good call though on the extra warm layers, plenty of food, and bear spray!
Haha someone actually reached out and bought the pass!! So excited for you it’s really epic and beautiful at the Tetons!! Make sure to stay on trail WOOT WOOT
I was a little worried about her toe, it looked like a strawberry!?! I hope everything is good and the place looked amazing! I hope to see it in person sometime!
The Tetons were one of our favorites. We just got back from traveling there and many other places on our recent westward trip in a Cruise America RV. We were gone for 3 weeks with a now 1 year old and our pit Bull! Some of the best times I’ve had in National Parks were this trip.
Looked like an awesome day and I'm glad everything went well. It would probably be worth looking up what to do when encountering bears on the trail. There are things you want to do and, more importantly, things NOT to do depending on whether it's a brown bear or a black bear. I'm sure it was an incredible encounter but I think everyone I saw in that short clip did the exact opposite of what you're supposed to do when it's a brown bear. Still, you guys are making some great memories. Be safe so you can keep.makiing them :)
@@mikemitchell2379 I saw a mama grizz bluff charge a 70 year old that got out of his car to film her. This was in Yellowstone in late October. No one around. Maybe 4 or 5 cars parked. She was about 50 feet away and another 20 feet down (or so) from the roadside embankment. She closed that distance in 3 seconds. MAYBE. If it wasn't a bluff charge, that guy would be dead in one swipe. I literally told the guy to get back into his car not a minute before. She kept putting her nose in the air (smelling him), then out of nowhere, charged him and stood up. Probably 8 feet tall and no more than 5 feet from him as he tried to scramble around the bumper to the backside of his car. You wouldn't have believed the speed. Mere seconds and she was right on top of him.
That looks like inspiration Lake that y’all hiked on, if it is that water is cold as hell. I was there July 4, 1997 and the lake was frozen over. First time watching the video, great job, enjoy life, keep it up
That campsite is a bit on the weird side. Since it's literally at the national park border there's a ton of weird people coming and going all the time. If you pull in to the second loop of designated campsites there's a small 2 track going up the hill and there's a lot nicer campsites up there if you a have a vehicle that can make it. Bonus is, the right time of year you can watch bison going south right in front of the grand tetons while sitting at a campfire. It doesn't get better than that. Well, that's a bit much drama for a very small injury. BTW: if you had walked around the lake to the far end, you could have gotten a fantastic shot with one person on the rocks up front when the other person takes the photo from the other side of the lake with a tele. Nope, bears are not interested in you. I'd be a lot more respectful of a moose or a bison than a grizzly. They're mostly vegetarian and unless they have cubs they tend to avoid noisy humans. There are moose walking by that campsite and that can be scary. You should buy the bear spray though - it's good for cougars and humans too. The biggest predator out there are humans 99% of the time. I've never been afraid of wildlife - respect animals, yes, but the biggest danger is humans bar none.
We will be giving this and all our favorite campsites in our USA Travel Guide coming out May 17th! This campsite will be linked in the video Ebook WOOT WOOT
Was there in 2014 - I asked a ranger what’s the best off-beat hike and they told us this. The lake was the surprise at the end. We were there in June - still covered in snow despite 60 F weather. The lake was in a state of between ice and water. Never saw something like it. It was like water but scooping your hands through pulled out a pile of clumped slush and with that deep blue color, it felt out of this world!
Beautiful stuff! I definitely wouldn't be jumping in both cause that's way too cold for this FL guy but also not being able to see in the water. Hate she got hurt though but gorgeous stuff.
Hahaha to be honest Ana and I love long drives. We were long distance in college all 4 years and the 10 hour drive between Indiana and South Carolina got us pumped up for some reason. We are definitely not the norm!! Road trips give us an adrenaline rush
Very very tough hike. It’s def worth the view at the end, but I do recommend working out quite a bit before you attempt this. Take plenty of water and snacks. It is worth if you make it to the top, sadly a lot of people turned around cause they couldn’t make it and didn’t get to see the beauty!
Cool lake...however sharing this on UA-cam will mean a lot more people coming there. Until the Tetons makes a proper trail, please consider the removal of this video. Lots of erosion and destruction of habitat going on! (And yes, I know because I have been visiting that lake for two decades.)
Honestly, I think many people already know about this lake through social media. If you check the reviews on AllTrails from the last week alone, there are 28 of them. That puts this as a heavily trafficked trail for a 9 mile trail. The NPS does a pretty good job with trail maintenance in Tetons. This trail simply need to become official with all of the traffic now. Did this couple do something wrong with their hike in particular that you noticed? It looks like they discussed using switchbacks on part of their hike (which is responsible). Just curious. 😀
Robert we totally understand your concern with erosion but this trail was heavily trafficked and known before we made this video. We saw atleast 100+ people come down from Delta lake.
