I lived in Queens for almost 3 winters , 1988,89 and 90. Not a single snow fell. So Sad. Looks like it snowed every year after I left. So many blizzards since 1990.
It's an option to stay home for those with non essential jobs. I'm best friends with a paramedic. My ex is a cop and a medic. I used to manage a grocery store. I work with truck drivers every single day. I know many people in the trade industry since I am a technician myself. You dont know me but you're telling me who I know and don't know? What I am simply saying is that lots of people cant just stay home. There are jobs to do and many of us figure it out. Dad hated Florida & wanted, after a few years, to return to NF. Mom hated cold so they stayed . Us 4 adults came down . Sister & family moved to N Florida, brother & sister in law back to Rochester,NY. Dad passed some years ago so my brother & I stayed with her until her passing . We live in West Palm Beach in a 55 + community. The entire area of Palm Beach County has become overly populated,not really happy here. My brother & sis in law had a stunning home in Rochester. Taxes were killing them.Then apparently, the Erie Canal which edged their property was in dire need of repair ignored for 3 years by all government representatives.Instead they slapped an expensive assessment on all homeowners. Gorgeous home on 1 1/2 acre land. Knowing them,they will be happy in many ways. No one knows better than you what you feel. Have you been back to LI lately? Sometimes going back help us out things in perspective. I miss Niagara Falls terribly. Like you , it's in my blood. But when I think of the horrendous winters at 70, my body couldn't take it. All will work out,take you time. God has great plans for you on your journey. Thinking of you.

I was in one of those snow storm but all of us in the residential area had to leave the cars on the road (no way we could go up the hill) and walked home.. When it stopped snowing, two of the neighbors, one a Ski instructor equipped with a van and towing chains, and another that owned a towing truck, volunteer to go and tow the cars back to their owner's house. They would pick up one neighbor each to guide them to their car and soon enough they were back with the car, pick up another neighbor and do the same.. We were snow bound for 7 days so, all the ladies of the house start cooking and we would get together in different homes in the evening for good food, drinks and an unforgettable friendship.. Those were the good old days and the best winter I ever had...
That storm system was here from 3:30 Saturday afternoon until Sunday midnight. Hammond, Indiana we got about 12 inches of snow. Shoveled and shoveled and shoveled. Everytime l turned around, more snow. Goodbye January, hello February 2021❄

I was always told to carry a bit of thin rope in the car. If you get stuck in the snow tie around the tyres of your driving wheels ( usually front ones these days!). Instant temporary snow chains. UNLESS you have those fancy wheels with silly tyres on them and then there isnt room for the rope!
Yes it is but if you have a automatic carWhen you put on the gas it shifts gears on its own . Yes? Well if you put your gear shift in low, !st Or 2nd, then you cant take off to fast and slide. Especially if you drive a rear wheel drive. worse yet if its a dodge challenger R/T V8 HEMI.

Even with 4x4 you need real snow tires not the all=season tires they put on tires these days. The last car stuck in the snow was a subaru wrx. With proper real snow tires it would have no problem moving. It's all about tires.
