John Lennon loved this song and created the Day Tripper and I Feel Fine riff inspired by this spectacular song by the great Bobby Parker. And without forgetting If You Got Trouble by Anthology 2 sung by Ringo Starr another Beatles song with a riff inspired by Watch Your Step!
Having been enamored with the original V-Tone label 45 for decades, it's a bit of answered prayer to see Professor Parker reprise it live long after the fact. Grateful for this.
Somebody somewhere said, "Bad musicians copy. Good musicians steal." Can't remember where I heard that. Listen to "I Feel Fine" and then "One Way Out." The riff is pretty evident but are different enough from the original that they can't really be called "copying.'
Luck shone on me many times letting me see and hear Bobby Parker perform at Twins Lounge DC. I may even helped load equipment a couple of times after a performance. He gave a big show every time.
Those are all well known DC Musicians. Unbeknownst to many, DC is a huge live music town, second to New Orleans where musicians can make a pretty good living. The conga player is Go-Go Mickey, one of the best conga players in DC's own Go-Go scene, a sub-genre of funk played only in DC. If you would like to know more about DC's Go-Go scene you can read my book "DC Go-Go" available at www.ChipPyPhotographer.com
@@PyChip Hey thanks Chip! I shall grab your book. I play music for a living but I don't know much about the DC scene tho I'm playing there this weekend. Thanks for the response.
@@PyChip Chip I got your book today but I'm on tour so I'll check it out next week. Thanks! Longshot but my band is at The Pie Shop on DC Sat night. If you can make it let me know I'll guest list you. (Not sure how to reach you so I figured I'd post here)
Led Zeppelin clearly stole this song to write "Moby Dick" and I really hope Led Zeppelin is paying Bobby Parker. If they don't pay Bobby Parker that's messed up.
I agree but unfortunately Bobby Parker is dead, his family will have a hard time getting money since this was copyrighted in 1961. Songs copyrighted before 1964 are public domain.
Fucking bastards, I can believe Zeppelin was my favorite band years ago, when i didn't know the kind of thieves they are. Fuck Robert Plant and Jimmy Page, rot in hell!!
Along with Zep, John Lennon borrowed that great riff for "I feel fine," as Bobby recognized. And Bobby arrived at that riff while playing "A Night in Tunisia," the Dizzy Gillespie latin jazz number. The flip of the original single, "Steal your Heart Away" is also fantastic. Joe Bomassa plays that one live-- with credit to Bobby, not ripping him off.
It was a cheap "kit" guitar - maybe upgraded PUPs but, when Bobby played the Portland Waterfront Fest wLittle Jimmy King, Bobby was like ""Yeah Man, those Humbuckers baby" and eventually bought THAT "V" like kit and had someone build. One of those $99-ish total shipped things, Ha. seriously. I personally preferred the Squire Bullet he recorded the 2 Blacktop records and used live for a good 10+ years but... Bobby did what B wanted ;-) RIP - Miss ya B
Big fat drummers always confuse me. Most drummers are wiry & pencil-thin. You'd think that someone would expend so many calories playing the drums, that they *couldn't* get fat. :D Bobby Parker had that anti-aging gene...he still looks great here, and he was 76 years old!
Wow! I grew up a huge Zepplin fan. I’m now 59. I can’t believe that you could blatantly rip off somebody like that and nobody knows or hears about it. That riff is exactly the same as Moby Dick.!Exactly… I know they also got nailed for some other kind of musical “ripoff” . Too bad
"Moby Dick," being a fictional whale, had no legs or feet with which to step. So, Led Zeppelin's recycling the same riff, minus lyrics, to create a setting for a lengthy drum solo has nothing to do with THIS song, right?
The ancestor of I feel Fine, Day Tripper and Moby Dick
I knew Bobby for years and he was very unassuming like a lot of the early players who paid more than their fair share of dues. RIP 😢😎
Bobby is a great song writer and guitar player, I've heard this song in many other songs.. He deserves more recognition than he has gotten
wow, a blast from the past but back from the future - Bobby Parker is not only a legend, but also a veritable time traveller
How did a talent like this NOT get recognized more than he did?

Sounds like influence for "one way out" as well. Just fantastic!
Yes, an influence on the Allman's cover version.
Used to see Bobby in DC every chance I got. Always a great show and his guitar was incredibly loud and killer tone. Great memories
Real finesse here. R.I.P. Bobby Parker
Just amazingly great!
I played harp along with this and I can testify that it is ELECTRIFYING
I saw Bobby in the early 80s, he was was hellaicous back then. He's still got the tone....

Wow!!! three months before his death. I should have stayed with him, will miss him, he was my buddy.

RIP, you played with style and a big heart.
That drummer. Fantastic.
great dist tone!!!!
John Lennon loved this song-it influenced "I Feel Fine."
+iaminbetweendays It clearly did - and maybe Daytripper a little too.
Peter Green in '99 named B P his favourite guitarist
+Alli Anthony Peter Green was an amazing musician. And from what I've read a very kind person.
Also Day Tripper.
Yes, strongly influenced the riff on "I Feel Fine."

Allman Brothers too !!!!
One way out was a credited copy of the sonny Boy Williamson song which came out after this song
this really could use a 10 minute drum solo in the middle of it, and perhaps rename it.. something like Moby Dick perhaps.. just a thought..
+Squeeze My Lemon The other way round. Zeppelin ripped this off. It came out in 1961.
LET ME BABY...I WILL PUT BONO TO HANG HIS DRUM STICKS

Dino Efantis play keyboards can't remember who played bass.
The seventh note in the first break is enigmatic esemplastic
Awesome
Are any of you aware of Bobby's trip to England back in the early '60's? That is one hell of a story!!!
Let's hear it!
Regale us?
I Feel Great as a Day Tripper
This is where Zeppelin got the Moby Dick riff from.
Yup and the Beatles got Day Tripper and the list goes on.
What kind of guitar is Bobby playing here? And what was he using for an amp? Great sound!
not fender nor gibson.....chinese KAPOK....$10 in fiji
Looks like a chopped up Dean V
Amp has the Magnatone sound, but more raw distortion.
I just saw a Joe Bonamassa interview where he said this was a modified Dime Bag Darrel signature Dean Explorer. Pretty cool if true
@@MYando42 Definitely looks like a Dean. I'm not very familiar with those guitars tho...
Masterful

A flying V has never sounded so better.
Who are the guys in the band and what are they up to these days?

Bobby died broke. His funeral and burial were paid for by the owner of a DC Bar where he played regularly.

Is his guitar a modified Flying V?
Looks like it might be a Dean Flying V with the body and headstock sawed off.

Deep Purple lifted this tune for their song Rat Bat Blue.
Jimmy Page the master thief.

Its a clear plagiarism, they must pay Bobby.
He's like BB King, can't sing and play at the same time 😂
I can tell that Led Zeppelin stole this riff. This is too obvious.
Moby Dick , Led zeppelin
Led Zeppelin pinched the opening music for Moby Dick. Talk about plagiarism.
Bobby Parker didn't even write this song, only added lyrics to an instrumental by "Club 63 Galaxies". Or something like that. From Canada.
That guitar tone is abominably bad lol
Good guitar riffs, but the singing is terrible!
