I like Grand day out the most because it didn't have a villian villian. He was just a robot who wanted to go skiing. Plus they build a rocket and go to the moon to get cheese! Somehow they make an out there concept feel grounded.
Despite it's flaws, my personal favorite short is "A Close Shave". I mainly like it because I think Preston is an intimidating villain with him rustling sheep and turning them into dog food, him abusing and manipulating Wendelene, and the fact he tries to kill not only the sheep, but also Wallace and Wendelene. Though "The Wrong Trousers" is a close second in my eyes.
Fun Fact: Gromit was going to speak, he was going to have the voice of Peter Hawking, Nick had trouble animating the mouth, he made him silent when he discovered the eyebrows can help him express.
God, the memories this brings back! I love Wallace and Gromit and Aardman studios: Back when my mum could eat cheese, her absolute favourite was Wensleydale and Cranberry; I collected the magazine series, watched the DVDs all the time, I was in a rabbit phase with Curse of the Were Rabbit and Watership Down, I started snacking on crackers with butter, I bought a lovely brown teapot, I planted by own vegetable garden and I even remember drawing some pictures based around them to help me learn maths! XD So yeah, I LOVED these two as a kid. At first I didn't want to be too sad with Sallis’s death. He had a good career with both this and Last of the Summer Wine. Plus he was in his 90s, so he wasn't gone too soon. Then it really hit me, like, wow… no more Wallace and Gromit… Gromit’s on his own now. :( I love what the shorts managed to do with characters like the Robot from the first short and Feathers McGraw, it’s pretty amazing how they managed to make them so expressive and threatening, despite how they cant even move their faces. It’s no wonder we all found that penguin shit-scary! I think that moment where he pulls his gun out makes everyone go “Fuckin’ ‘ell!” @___@ I love your description of Piella (or however her names spelt), I can vouch that those kinds off utterly detestable and two-faced villains are a lot of fun to write and seeing people’s reactions for. Then again, you’d know, given the General from Echogeddon. Wallace and Gromit were always a beloved part of my life, but only now as an adult do I truly appreciate it’s britishness and how genuine it is. Especially with how Northern it is.
Did you know that A Grand Day Out was going to be a 40 minute movie that included the robot, Aliens, a Spoof of Star Wars, a fast food restaurant on the moon, and Wallace getting thrown in jail and Gromit was to rescue him. But someone at Aardman said it would take forever to make it so he scrapped everything except the robot.
I understand that stop motion animation is a LOT of hard work, time and patience to put into something that runs for 30 minutes in the finished product, but I REALLY hope that they continue with the Wallace and Gromit series, and I hope the new voice actor of Wallace will carry on Peter Sallis' legacy in the series!
All 'Wallace and Gromit' films (short or feature-length) were treasures. If Peter Sallis passing means that this is the end of the franchise, however, I say it's for the better-especially in a day and age where so many Hollywood executives desperately try to drag a franchise/series for their own greedy needs. Aardman will always be one of the greatest animation studios in my opinion (I mean, if the worse they can do is 'Flushed Away', which is still not bad, you know you've got a good studio). Even if they can't live on forever, hopefully they can inspire someone else to come in and be as new and as great as they are. As timeless as'Wallace and Gromit' is, and while we still have 'Shaun the Sheep', maybe it'll be high time for it to inspire a new, great stop-motion franchise for this generation.
Wallace in the film was voiced by both Peter sallis and a guy called Ben Whitehead (in curse of the were rabbit they pitch shifted both voice actors to play wallace. and for a matter of loaf and death it was Peters last production with aardman that is known since he retired in 2011 and it was said that ben will be taking on the voice of wallace. personally i would like the see the franchise finish and not get dragged out but if the magic is still there i can take 1 more adventure and then wrap it up.
I LOVED Wallace and gromit. My cousin introduced it to me when I was like around 4 or 5. I remember that old tune that would start every episode. My favorite episode was the wrong trousers. I loved trains so since there was a train, the wrong trousers became my favorite
19:23 Erm, actually, The most recent film in this franchise proved you wrong as a voice actor Ben Whitehead (who isn't even in his 50s btw) does a fantastic impression of Peter Sallis' voice for the character.
I can imagine in an alternate reality, Gromit would have the voice of Private from Madagascar, given the British accent, and that his voice functions similarly to that of Garfield or the Homeward Bound animals; have many thoughts, but the voices don’t have an echo, making it seem like they speak telepathically.
This was my favorite claymation of all time! I remember seeing a few shorts on tv back when I was five or six and just was stunned by seeing clay figures move around like live people. It was the first time I'd ever seen stopmotion/claymation in ever. I even remember the shorts I saw, the ending of "A Grand Day Out" and the whole short "A Close Shave". After that I got two of the short films on VHS (A Grand Day Out, and The Wrong Trousers) and recorded the third off a library copy. Saw the movie in theater, loved it and still do. Wallace and Gromit got me into stopmotion and I'll forever be thankful for this series to inspire me in stopmotion animation, showing me that 2D cell animation and later 3D animation or live action isn't the only way to tell a story. I'm glad this series is as popular as it is even here in the U.S. RIP Peter Sallis
ahhhh wallace and gromit. i have A Grand Day Out, The Wrong Trousers, A Close Shave all on dvd in one set and spent fair ammout of time watching them as a kid. good times...good times
I like The Wrong Trousers most, I love the way they show Wallace as naive but well-meaning, Gromitt as vulnerable but able to fight back and Feathers is my favourite villain of the series due to how silently creepy he is
I used to wonder if Feathers already had a plan to steal the diamond and if he was always going to before seeing what the techno trousers could do, cos to me after that is when he's starts going out and getting everything ready. 🐧💎
True! That penguin's expressionless expressions were really scary and spooked me and gromit out.I watched this in Pogo channel here in India 14 to 15 years back.To me its a feel good, simple, calm and slow series with everything happening subtly in the episodes. This is a show u truly enjoy if you watch in a silent atmosphere with some sweet milk tea and yummy crackers. Those beautiful days!!!😭😭😭😭
Jambareeqi, love your video of it and from beginning to the end of the video you just got peter sallis's blessing if he was still alive and to let you know I miss him too
I enjoyed watching the three original Wallace and Gromit shorts when I was a child and as an adult I enjoyed A Matter of Loaf and Death as well as The Curse of the Were-Rabbit. I was saddened to hear about the passing of Peter Sallis. May he rest in peace.
Aardman always create great villains they’re either really well developed and sympathetic like Paella or The Toad, hilariously over the top like Victor Quartermaine or A. Trumper or they’re unsettlingly creepy like Feathers McGraw or Preston
15:07 there’s that dish again that looks like whipped cream and hot dogs mashed together! the same one I saw in that Shaun the sheep episode!....what is that thing?!
I love stop motion because what you see physically exists. Great video as always, and happy 5th year anniversary! Also where does the name "Jambareeqi" come from?
My favorite Wallace and Gromit short is a matter of loath and death: the reason is because of the great villian and the mystery that is represented in the short. Oddly enough I just watched today cause it's been awhile since I have seen it and one thing that I noticed in the scene where Piella comes up stairs to her bedroom she sees her photo album with all the other bakers she has killed opened. Anyone would just assume she had just left it open but I think she knew that Gromit was in the bedroom and she acted like he wasn't when she closed the book and when she moved the mirror a second later. Fluffles also knows he's here when she catches his scent, which acts as red herring for the audience to only think that fluffles is the only one who knows he is in the room. Another tip to the fact that Piella also knows he is or was in the room is when he has a dream about him falling on top of her only for it to be revealed as a nightmare as well noticing she wasn't there. And what follows next is Gromit trying to protect Wallace with the whole airport security and it was at that point she knew she had to step up her game and since she knew fluffles and Gromit had feelings for each other she knew how to lure him away from Wallace. Out of all of the Aardman villains she is probably the smartest one. She's like a combination between a James Bond villain and professor Moriarty with a hint of a Batman villain. Second favorite is more of tie between a close shave and wrong trousers because both have an intriguing twist and turns along with two great villains. Third favorite is a grand day out and that short is actually pretty much fun to watch to with some cheese and crackers. As for the movie well it's not as good as the shorts but it's one of aadrmans' best feature films and a nice twist on the kids horror movie genre with some good comedy and great twist. The villain is weak and is more like Gaston from beauty and the beast but the were rabbit transformation is just awesome. All of the adventures of Wallace and Gromit is a pure Hitchcock with some great British humor. As an American I will gladly take enjoy the fantastic world of Aardman Animation one slow movement at a time.
15:03: Counting/sentence fail: Short says it’s a Baker’s Dozen (13), yet the reviewer says it’s a dozen bakers (12). Perhaps he could've said "kill a baker's dozen of pastry cooks as revenge, with Wallace being her 13th victim.”
Here are my opinion of the Wallace and Gromit shorts Antagonists: *1. Feathers McGraw from The Wrong Trousers (1993) is very silent, but deadly type of animal villain. *2. Preston from A Close Shave (1995) is a cyberpet have gone rogue and He is also very silent, but deadly type of robot villain. *3. Piella Bakewell from A Matter Of Loaf and Death (2008) is a baker-hating serial killer.
An awesome video. :) By the way, did you ever play any of the Wallace and Gromit video games? Some of them did feature Peter Sallis as the voice of Wallace.
They are pretty good. Especially the Telltale Games series "Wallace and Gromit's Grand Adventures". Sadly Wallace wasn't voiced by Peter Sallis in that one, but the guy who did voice him did a good job.
I really want to watch the shorts (I've never seen them), and I wanted to ask, what is the best way to watch them? As in, are they on DVD or digital. I tried doing some research but couldn't find much.
TheMonsterCinemaProduction What he means is that nobody can pull off the perfected voice for him. I mean, not literally, but people prefer the original voices, over something new.
I can see why you wouldn't want anymore Wallace and Gromit shorts and I share some of your feelings towards it. But at the same time, I really don't want the last things Wallace and Gromit related to be a 7 episode educational series and a theme park attraction (which is really awesome but that's besides the point) Also, Wallace and Gromit are just too iconic to drop. They're now these timeless characters that will come always come back. They are the British Mickey Mouse or Looney Tunes and they're going to be kept around forever (even if that means going through different voice actors).
They are indeed one of the greatest cartoon franchise characters, like Mickey Mouse, Looney Toons and Garfield, and just like those lovable and timeless characters, i hope that there will be maked other versions, like with Scooby Doo, or basically every Waltz Disney characters.
Even tho it does have it's moments, I've always thought A Matter of Loaf and Death is the weakest one. I'm not saying it's bad or anything, I just prefer the other three over it.
My favorite is a matter of loaf or death Because of the cute little poodle the romance between her and Gromit the fact that the title is a pun and I really love the part where what was her name again fluffles? I like the ending when she comes back to confront her abuser.
My favourite Wallace and Gromit movie 🎬 is The Wrong 👎 Trousers 👖 because it's a funny 😄 part and the best part was when Gromit slides out of Wallace's bed went into Wallace's clothing black to front then Gromit had jam in his face thought it was toast lol
Jambareeqi+ I Hated Victor Quatermaine! he was rotten and such a pathetic jerk to Wallace and he's feels too posh but is really a total douche and Is the villain that doesn't find anything in Lady Tottington just her money. sort of like The Villain from Corspe Bride that muduered Emily who is now The Corspe Bride for just Jewelry with Helena Bonham Carter Playing both love interests,But The Curse of the Were Rabbit was released before Corspe Bride in the Australia but it still counts Jambareeqi.
Hay jam can you do a review of classic horror films like a nightmare on elm street,Friday the 13th,and the shinning. P.S I know you like animated movies more than non animated movies I am just curious.
I don't like animated films more than live action, I like them both equally. Animated movies are just my niche on UA-cam because I have a degree in animation. I'm always open to reviewing live action films but animated films seem to always win polls. Anyway, I can keep your requests in mind but I can't make any promises. To increase your chances of a request being made, consider supporting me on my Patreon, because $10+ Patrons can make me review ANYTHING :)
I completely agree that no-one else could do Wallace justice but the late Peter Sallis. Personally, I think the franchise is near-perfect as it is: just the four short films and the feature-length movie. I love them all, they're some of my absolute favourite animated productions. Rest in peace Peter Sallis.
JAMBAREEQI: I just don't think anyone can even come close to doing Peter Sallis's Wallace voice. BEN WHITEHEAD: Hold my cheese! ua-cam.com/video/ZfOGAcyGsCA/v-deo.html
I know this an old video, but heres how i think Jambareeqi ranks the "Wallce and Gromit" shorts from Best to Worst 4. A Close Shave 3. A Grand Day Out 2. The Wrong Trousers 1. A Matter of Loaf and Death
[13.01]-[13.05] Jambareeqi, you have to understand that W&G has a very low budget compared to other animated films. Which do you think is cheaper- having Wallace sitting around reading papers or having to build an entire new set with puppets as the judge, jury and audience, etc. However there is no evidence that he didn’t attend the trials.
What I hav enoticed is that in every film after the wrong trousers Wallace and Gromit have some kind of business, and they take in a lodger cos they need money, nice continuity. (Btw a close shave is actually my favorite)
1st The Curse of the Were Rabbit 2nd The wrong trousers 3rd A close shave 4th A grand day out 5th Cracking contraptions 6th A matter of loaf and death A grand day out 5/10 The wrong trousers 8/10 A close shave 7/10 Cracking contraptions 5/10 The Curse of the Were Rabbit 8/10 A matter of loaf and death 2/10
I'm honestly a big Wallace and Gromit fan! Curse of the were rabbit was one of my FAVOURITE films as a kid! Do you consider reviewing that one any time?
I agree with your opinion because my opinions are your opinions as well. I always wanna write comic books as an adult. When I see a bad movie, I cringe a lot. And I mean A LOT.
Wallace and Gromit is a timeless series. It truly broke my heart when you said he died...
I like Grand day out the most because it didn't have a villian villian. He was just a robot who wanted to go skiing. Plus they build a rocket and go to the moon to get cheese! Somehow they make an out there concept feel grounded.
I think it should be illegal for anyone to dislike Wallace & Gromit

I’ve never met someone who haven’t watched all the shorts
I like how the shorts get darker as each one goes on
This is the first time I heard anyone call Loaf & Death their fav. Interesting
Wait that music in the background for the grand day out segment. That's the same music Jobbythehong uses in his videos.
Most UA-camrs use music from the UA-cam audio library, as they are all creative commons or public domain tracks
AH, gotcha
My favorite was "A Close Shave"
I love Wallace and Gromit
Aardman should do a Gromit and fluffles series it would be cute.
That would be adorable to see
Id love to see you do a review of curse of the wear rabbit
Here are my opinion of the Wallace and Gromit shorts Antagonists:
Will you go to see "Early Man"?

But at the same time, I really don't want the last things Wallace and Gromit related to be a 7 episode educational series and a theme park attraction (which is really awesome but that's besides the point)
Also, Wallace and Gromit are just too iconic to drop.
Me and my Dad are huge fans of these
The Wrong Trousers is easily my favourite of the bunch.
Even tho it does have it's moments, I've always thought A Matter of Loaf and Death is the weakest one. I'm not saying it's bad or anything, I just prefer the other three over it.
Awesome video. Did you ever play the Wallace and Gromit video games btw?
I love this franchise, especially i too is a Cheese lover. And they are freakin' hilarious too.
My favorite is a matter of loaf or death Because of the cute little poodle the romance between her and Gromit the fact that the title is a pun and I really love the part where what was her name again fluffles? I like the ending when she comes back to confront her abuser.
They are so adorable together
My favourite Wallace and Gromit movie 🎬 is The Wrong 👎 Trousers 👖 because it's a funny 😄 part and the best part was when Gromit slides out of Wallace's bed went into Wallace's clothing black to front then Gromit had jam in his face thought it was toast lol
What do you think of Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Ware Rabbit?
It's very funny and charming, my 6th favourite Dreamworks film
Awesome review of 4 wonderful shorts Jam. Did you also like Curse of the Were Rabbit?
I loved "Curse of the Were Rabbit", I just didn't like it's boring villain
Jambareeqi+ I Hated Victor Quatermaine! he was rotten and such a pathetic jerk to Wallace and he's feels too posh but is really a total douche and Is the villain that doesn't find anything in Lady Tottington just her money. sort of like The Villain from Corspe Bride that muduered Emily who is now The Corspe Bride for just Jewelry
with Helena Bonham Carter Playing both love interests,But The Curse of the Were Rabbit was released before Corspe Bride in the Australia but it still counts Jambareeqi.
Wasn't Gromit actually locked up in the zoo? The same as Feathers?
Read the writing in the cell it says "Feathers was here"
Hay jam can you do a review of classic horror films like a nightmare on elm street,Friday the 13th,and the shinning.
I wanna see a Gromit short with him as a James Bond 007 parody.
Actually, Wallace and Gromit had way more than 4 shorts.
Yeah, there were also the Cracking Contraptions that were made to promote The Curse of the Were-Rabbit
Actually the fight with pie ella is a reference to the doctor who episode voyage of the dammned
Nope, it's a nod to Aliens, that's more than obvious.
I completely agree that no-one else could do Wallace justice but the late Peter Sallis. Personally, I think the franchise is near-perfect as it is: just the four short films and the feature-length movie. I love them all, they're some of my absolute favourite animated productions.
Rest in peace Peter Sallis.
I do remember the first movie where he turns into a giant bunny in the night
Wallace's face at 7:56
JAMBAREEQI: I just don't think anyone can even come close to doing Peter Sallis's Wallace voice.
BEN WHITEHEAD: Hold my cheese! ua-cam.com/video/ZfOGAcyGsCA/v-deo.html
I know this an old video, but heres how i think Jambareeqi ranks the "Wallce and Gromit" shorts from Best to Worst
4. A Close Shave
3. A Grand Day Out
2. The Wrong Trousers
1. A Matter of Loaf and Death
The wrong trousers because of the train chase.
This video didn’t age well, The Wrong Trousers is getting a sequel movie
What I hav enoticed is that in every film after the wrong trousers Wallace and Gromit have some kind of business, and they take in a lodger cos they need money, nice continuity. (Btw a close shave is actually my favorite)
1st The Curse of the Were Rabbit
2nd The wrong trousers
3rd A close shave
4th A grand day out
5th Cracking contraptions
6th A matter of loaf and death
A grand day out 5/10
The wrong trousers 8/10
A close shave 7/10
Cracking contraptions 5/10
The Curse of the Were Rabbit 8/10
A matter of loaf and death 2/10
R.I.P Wallace
Holy shit! Happy Feet is packin' heat!
Wallace and gromit short ratings
A Grand day out: 6/10
The wrong trousers 9/10
A close shave: 5/10
A matter of loaf and death: 1/10
I'm honestly a big Wallace and Gromit fan! Curse of the were rabbit was one of my FAVOURITE films as a kid! Do you consider reviewing that one any time?
No plans yet unless it wins a poll or a Patron requests it
Did you know piella is sally linsday from coronation Street
I agree with your opinion because my opinions are your opinions as well. I always wanna write comic books as an adult. When I see a bad movie, I cringe a lot. And I mean A LOT.
What did you think of curse of were rabbit
I want another Wallace and Gromit short or film, but with Sallis's the voice of Wallace death it probably won't happen
When are you going to review chicken run
