    YES! I literally got intense goosebumps when you shouted me out! Pleasure supporting you dear friend.
    I’m really nostalgic over this movie, I remember pretty well keeping track of all the trailers and of course seeing the movie itself at the cinema. Absolutely loved it back then, I even remember digging the Ben Folds songs quite a bit! “Rockin’ The Suburbs” though👌
    Looking at it now from a more mature and experienced perspective, it is definitely more flawed than I remembered, but the nostalgia factor, likeable characters and fun music are what keep me coming back every once in a while.
    Such a funny coincidence that you both reviewed a movie from my childhood as well shouted me out! Really made my day!

    I think the biggest thing about Over The Hedge that it would have been a masterpiece if they had made the characters less one note and as you said less cynical of humanity.

    This was based on a comic strip by the same name, which the comic had a little girl that would be supportive of the animals and even talk to them.

      To be honest, it wasn’t THAT memorable of a comic strip. It pales in comparison to the likes of Peanuts, Spider-Man, Baby Blues, Foxtrot, and such. Though I should also mention How To Train Your Dragon is also based on a book, though very loosely

    I like Over the Hedge and find it really funny, but I really appreciate your thoughts on having that good human character who would speak up for the animals and live in healthier ways. That really would’ve made the film that much better!

    I never really noticed how weirdly misanthropic this movie was until now. It's not like Invader Zim where in that case, the portrayal of humans fits the atmosphere and setting of the show.

    6:17 I feel this character could work; especially if they weren't alone and had other friends who might not be so commited, but still felt inspired by them in their own way.
    This child character could also form a bit of a friendship with some of the animals; maybe with some like Hammy, Heather or the porcupine kids liking them; Verne, Stella, Ozzie and the rest fearing them at the beginning but then learning to trust them, and RJ finding a role model in them (maybe trying some of the food in their house and liking it more than the processed food; helping his transition to a healthier diet in the finale)

      It's for all versions. The GameCube/PS2/XBOX era was when practically every multiplatform games were the same with nothing to make one better or worse than the others. There are some exceptions like Sonic Heroes and Turok Evolution being much better on the GameCube and XBOX than the PS2.

  • @everestcanyon5647

    I think having a human character who did all that stuff to protect the wildlife would sort of feel too heavily like propaganda. Also, it's not just the human's unhealthy habit that are shown on camera, but the animals join in to. Hammy finding his stash of nuts was just something they added at the end because they wanted to feel good for Hammy, originally, they would have found Gladys' Credit Card and used that to eat the same junk the humans do. In fact, in the video game, which takes place a year later (don't know if it counts as canon or not, but I'm going to go with it here). The whole game is about them breaking into places to take food, so whether satire or not, the animals are fully involved in the same habits the humans are as well.
    Just how I see it.

    • @Jambareeqi
      @Jambareeqi  5 років тому +3

      It would only be propaganda if written badly, having a good human wouldn't suddenly make the film propaganda, the alternative to being preachy shouldn't be scrapping a potential good role model or ignoring showing the good in humanity. The animals eat the junk too, but it's to show how unhealthy human food is (ignoring how humans don't just eat garbage, they have fruit & veg too), it's actually adding to the film's overall cynicism. Films have to also work on their own merits, a spin off video game alterations to the story doesn't suddenly make this film well written, that credit goes to the video game.

    • @everestcanyon5647
      @everestcanyon5647 5 років тому +2

      I guess I never really saw Over the Hedge as a satire (possibly because I was young, and didn't even know what a satire was when I first watched it), I mean, yes, I can see how it's laughing at human eating habits, but to me it seems more like self-deprecation rather than being overly critical to me. Much like I would laugh at myself for swinging both my arms the same way when I walk sometimes, and I might even exaggerate it, but I don't really have a problem with it. Although I will admit unhealthy food choices can be a real problem with some, and it carries a bit more weight than how one swings their arms while walking.

    This, I think, is probably your best review of the month, though I can't exactly say why (maybe it has to do with the hype for HTTYD 3 coming up!
    Your content is just good in general!
    You know your mention of a sensible human character that should have been added to give some much needed balance to this movie's over-exaggerated, cynical portrayal of humans? I was just on the phone and think I find the right candidate! Her name is Mary Sue!
    Who knew that Henry Gregson Williams would go from producing a nothing-more-than-serviceable score for this movie, to creating one of the major highlights for the 2017 Wonder Woman movie?!

    I do respect Jambareeqi's opinions on movies, but he is just trying way too hard to be "THE BEST FILM CRITIC EVER IN THE HISTORY OF THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE" by being utterly nit-picky at every single detail in movies, taking movies way too seriously as if they are real and not made for entertainment, comparing every single movie with one another, being nosy towards all of the characters to find their backstory to see if they have depth or not, as if he gets into everyone's business, and not turning his brain off. He needs to chill!
