For every fucked up thing that’s happened in this country recently, there’s a Gil Scott Heron song from 40+ years ago that touches upon it.

    There are 231,556,622 eligible voters
    25.6% voted for Clinton
    25.5% voted for Trump
    1.7% voted for Johnson
    46.9% voted for Nobody
74.2% voted against Trump. But more importantly, 46.9% of the Registered voters have voted for nobody.
Therefore that indicates that nobody, should be the President.
    B Movie stays relevant.

Just phenomenal political insight, gravitas, humour, funkiness and the best voice in one important giant of an artist. Gil, we miss you. I really would've loved your take on Trump man. We could all have done with your take on a lot of stuff, but thanks for the gold. RIP.

This is effing amazing. This is not "content" this is a history lesson, back then and even more so NOW. I am in total awe of Gil Scott's delivery here, his subtlety, his slam-dunk references about ALL that is wrong. Thanks for posting this, is there a link to the entire live-performane?

The prophet Gil speaks about the president or the so called president in 1982 album the year before. Look at it now. The same thing just new actors in the new B movie. Prophets see well ahead into the future. Gil Scott Heron is one of those people!!!!

Yes he did have great insight on political and social issues of the day. I, too, would love to hear his insight on the political climate over the last eight years and especially now with Donald J. Trump. I've always loved and been into Gil Scott-Heron. Back in the day (the 1970s and 1980s) when he make this song, many of the young sisters and brothers in my community didn't really appreciate him because he was doing commentary on current events. This meant that to know what he was talking about, it was necessary to pay attention to the news and know something about politics. And young people weren't that interest in either then. But now that they're older, wiser, and more mature, I think they have gained a new appreciation for Gil and his work.

Genius Gil dropping this real historical insight in USA society first on Reflections in 1981 (or earlier recent history updates like Bicentennial- & H2Ogate Blues from 1973 & 1976), relevant to this very day. Sadly history repeating, only new actors. From B actor Reagan to Reality TV show host Trump, from "Good old boys" to Proud Boys. And again "Civil Rights, women's rights, gay rights it's all wrong" & "Racism is up, human rights are down".

But most importantly is the fact that I take intensive lessons in English for a better understanding of his lyrics. He gave me the guiding map of the whole life . Further he told exactly how stupid the humans can be. RiP Gil ❤❤❤❤❤

The names & parties, countries & issues always do change in substance if not only the wrappers. Truth be told this was '82. I was an outlaw, a known defiant type, my grandma saw me on the 6pm news, and my grandpa, Chief of the Weamaconk, reminded me I had a prophecy to fulfill. I laughed at him, crazy old man, likened his name to a gas attack ("Quiet Thunder" he was king of blades) and he almost smacked me, only I had such a deep laugh, he had to admit it was just plain funny. He was wise, knew I did not do such was on the news. Told me so, a lot of people in my neighborhood did as well. Not my own parents or 3 of my brothers, how much can we know another... Chief knew I was neck deep in a bad stew. I was supposed to do something which was very wrong. Only I fight, and I do not play along. Some truths we all only know for ourselves. It came out some 20 years later as some information was undeniable that freed me from a an unfair task. Much of Gil's song is so very true, yet as being only human, much is aimed at the wrong people, as we all sometimes do. The B-Movie also includes us, as we are never quite humble enough. Gil, Aida, ee cummings, James Baldwin (The Fire Next Time) and even myself- we tend to forecast the future when we oft believe we are only writing exposes about the present, which to some extent we are! This is MORE TRUE TODAY than ever it was at the time it was released. RR's effects on the economy & the Iron Curtain were mostly after this song, so we went from "Skippy" economy fails to RR's boom time which did indeed give him a landslide in his '84 reelection. That is vital to me as I was in jail during his 1st term and protested against his policies in the 2nd, so I guess I got it wrong. That is extremely rare for me. Yet when I err, it is also essential that I admit and course correct. fast forward to now, where I have been on President committees, advisor to Brig Generals both here and overseas in my country's interest & as requested only. After many years and so many miles of really bad road, I have been a 45 year Democrat, yet had to quit that party or rather it quit me. Now I am free to just openly consider, not the wrapper, no. the wrapper is the part you throw away. I consider the contents for substance, character for substance, policies for substance and deeds to confirm. That way, I own my vote. I tip my hat to us all, as if to say, we are in unity as being in a free & great country where we may be as I am- dissident patriots, yet we want the best for all of us, as such I do. Best regards to all, I think this time, the revolution will be televised, on social media only spun & censored for mass consumption. One caution I see in going forth: Contents under pressure. Be sure to always care for kith, kin & our neighbors, we are going to be alright. ~ RaVen ~
