Gil was a genius beyond our comprehension, and we are blessed that he shared his passion and depth with us through his amazing poetry and music. He remains ‘ahead of his time’ and as relevant and needed as ever in 2022.

He's got such a consciousness about him. Look at his eyes. Listen to his words, his lack of hatred for hateful people, his middle path demeanor. Such a beautiful display of human love.

Gil was given the name “the most dangerous musician alive” I believe we can all begin to comprehend how his mind made him dangerous to showing and saying truth where lies stood firm. His mind if of all else supreme without doubt

That statement on Baltimore.....he was about the only black person in Baltimore was a slight dig to the people he had to encounter. This cut deep to me because after Wilberforce I joined up with University of Baltimore for my masters and being new there I felt the same way. Lord bless the people of that city, they need it.

What we teach and do not teach our children REALLY matters most. The changes have to first get traction in the way we think about our community and our neighbors. Then, if we can insist in JUSTICE in all things of government, change can be resurrected, in spite of criminals intrusions.

      Ah lovely day
I never thought of myself as a complex man
Or someone who was really that hard to understand
But it would hardly take a genius to realize
That I've always been a lot too arrogant
And a little too fuckin' wise
That was a combination that made a lotta folks feel duty bound
To do whatever they could to try and shoot me down
To head off some of the things I might possibly say
And see if they couldn't take some of my pride away
To bring me disappointment and teach me to fear it
Obviously these are folks that just didn't have no spirit
      Spirits say
Don't give up (spirits say don't give up)
Yes it's time to stop your fallin'
      You've been down long enough
Can't you hear the spirits callin'?

@booblikon I agree wholeheartedly with you...well said indeed. He was an extraordinarily gifted artist who shared many profound intelligent thoughts with us on his conscious-raising albums, and during this interview alone...loved his music--particularly "Secrets" with Brian Jackson in 1980. Rest peacefully, Mr. Scott-Heron. Thank you for sharing this informative interview. Blessings to you and all, and to the family of Mr. Scott-Heron.🙏🏿

those who may insist in seeing “colour blindness” must heed to recognize of such an outlook, while inconsequential as a matter of individual opinion, and in conception, intended positively, as an all encompassing, indiscriminate embrace of all humanity, as a collectivized internal understanding, we must be able to acknowledge still that our world is not a unilaterally defined conception with a solitary set of truth & reality for all, but rather an ever-expanding multilateralism, cultivated , upheld & continually expanded on through the collective jigsaw of humanity, to which each & every individual adds a piece. Moreover, to be colour blind collectively or as a sole outwardly expression of worldly comprehension, is not an authentically representative outlook of the world we all exist in, and the one we wish to uphold and perpetuate, and therefore is an ineffective resolve in relation to addressing adequately and coming to terms with the persistent race “issue” underlying humanity.
To be colour blind in theory is only representative of one’s uncertainty, one’s unfamiliarity with any or all aspects of the COLLECTIVE understanding, love, appreciation, while colour blindness in practice is effectively concise a remedy as merely looking away from, covering one’s eyes, essentially choosing to avoid, disregard, or shield oneself from the problem altogether, drawing a barrier between addressing the problem and coming to terms with collective understanding, growth, healing. In practicing colour blindness expressively, we run the risk of spurring progression, compassion, and appreciation at an individual level.
No sole individual, not any single one of us can wholeheartedly love & embrace EVERY”ONE/1”, the COLLECTIVE HUMANITY, without first acknowledging & embracing EACH, and EVERY INDIVIDUAL, for everything they offer, everything they are and everything they aren’t, everything overlapping or occupying space of its own. What we see face to face, one on one, we’d never concisely be able to love, embrace, respect, & appreciate as a collective.
