The Muppet Movie needs to be part of the Criterion Collection. There I said it.
The ones who made godzilla 1954???
@@nickmcgovern7277and who released a collectors edition of Pixar’s Wall-e
The Mucking Fuppets. Thanks for not swearing on this lookback.
Regarding the 'Rainbow Connection' scene, I would've guessed that Jim Henson simply stood in the swamp water while hiding his head and arms underneath that log. The fact that he did all of this with an oxygen bubble and a monitor is absolutely amazing!
45:15 RIP Harry Belafonte
(27:17)
I just love how Walter demands Disney to release the fourth and fifth seasons of “The Muppet Show” on DVD already, further reinforcing his relatable passion for the Muppets.
This just might define how Walter is a PERFECT addition to the Muppet family...
That is true. But will save the movie that introduces him a lot later.
Its like he predicted it, but not in the way he had in mind
The Muppet Movie was a box office success when it was released back in 1979.
Fun 🤩 Fact: Miss Piggy originally appeared in The Tonight Show and Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass in 1974. In 1975 she appeared in the pilot The Muppet Show: Sex and Violence as a generic pig 🐖.
The Muppet Show also was a success too.
Paul Williams was not only a song writer, but he also sung the end credits song to The Secret of Nimh, 'Flying Dreams', and voiced the Penguin in Batman: The Animated Series.
He was also in Dexter’s Laboratory as Proffessor Williams in the episode,”Just An Old Fashioned Lab Song”.
Might as well lobby my guess on Part 3:
The Great Muppet Caper
The Dark Crystal
Fraggle Rock
Speaking of that trick they did with the bike, A similar technique was used during the beginning of “who framed Roger rabbit”. In that film, when Eddie valiant walks through the maroon cartoon studio, a pelican on a bicycle rides by him. They used a crane to keep the bicycle up, but it didn’t last for long. Which explains why the pelican clumsily fell off in the next scene.
You gotta love how they include real accidents in the film instead of just doing a retake. Makes the film much more interesting when you learn facts like the one you’ve mentioned.
The Muppet Show proves that Jim Henson himself can expand the medium of puppetry thanks to the Muppet Show. Also the technology that went through the muppet movie was pretty innovative and impressive, especially with the rainbow connection scene. That was a Mucking amazing Fuppets lookback!!
At the end of the Muppet Movie all of the characters from Jim Henson shows where shown with a rainbow.
Yay!!! Our Muppet story continues as we learn about the Muppets’ big show, with Kermit taking center stage with a few other great characters, including a diva pig, a daredevil thing (whatever Gonzo is), Rowlf playing the piano, two old dudes who heckle the show from their balcony, and an awesome rock band group to name a few, oh, and a comedian who’s a bear.
“No he’s-a not! He’s-a wearin’ a neck-a tie! Ahahaha…”
And in doing so, they've started a legacy for all to enjoy, not just with their big show, but also a fun movie with one of the best songs ever written about rainbows, where they're guaranteed to keep entertaining audiences worldwide, thanks to the lovers, the dreamers, and you!
Sesame Street,The Muppet Show,Fraggle rock and so many other TV shows are the famous creations of Jim Henson.
God…imagine what jim could have done with modern technology…he’d probably blow us away

take a number
Patch Adams?
The Muppets are a definitive part of my childhood
I can see why. There truly a unique force to behold and are great at making you laugh and smile with.
I'm still not blaming AniMat for trying to do something super new for a change
To quote Animation Pixar Pt 2: Ah, FINALLY! It’s about time!
Well Done, AniMat. I'll be waiting for part 3.
🎵It’s time to get things started on the most sensational, inspirational, celebrational, muppetiational, this is what we call the Muppet Show🎵
That theme song will never get out of my head and I'll always love the Muppets even as I grow older and older. 😊 🎶 📺 🐸
Trumpet sound G
I know right, why else did it felt nostalgic when I heard that theme in the 2011 film:
Being born in 1973, I grew up with Sesame Street and the Muppets. When Henson died a few months before I turned 17, I started crying and saying "Kermie's dead". 😩
They should make the muppet movie into a disney Broadway musical like what they did with the lion king
And it would have the elaborate masks and costumes
Another thing about Dr. Strangepork: Not only was he previously Dr. Nauga from the Sex and Violence pilot, he was also based on one of the background pigs from Season One (who you can see in best in this video as the dance partner to Miss Piggy), as they have similar headshape and sideburns and bald spot (except Strangepork's hair is white and wears glasses and obviously Muppeteer and voice, the former was mostly Richard Hunt and the latter Jerry Nelson).
I can only hope that Part 3 focuses on the making of “The Dark Crystal” and “Labyrinth”. With all due respect, I actually prefer those movies to the Muppets any day.
I’ve been waiting for animat to talk about Land of Gorch
35:29, This was a new thing by showing the Puppets Full Body on Screen.
And no, the Costume Puppets like Big Bird and Sweetums technically don't count.
35:18-37:10
Wow! I already seen Defunctland Tv: Jim Henson explaining this. But still wow!
First heard "Rainbow Connection" about 10 years ago, and is now ingrained to my soul.
I’m looking forward for part 3 of Animation Lookback: The Muppets.
Do you think he’ll talk about Fraggle Rock?
I sure hope so.
Guess what? He didn’t talk about Fraggle Rock on part 3
I remember these characters and they're on Disney plus.
This is a super great video! It answered so many of my questions about the Muppets. I always wondered how they performed Kermit while being surrounded by water and now, I know! 🤩
I wonder if they used this technique to get Kermit to appear to swim in The Frog Prince TV special in 1971. 🤔
I love the Muppet Show. My personal favorite episodes were featuring Vincent price, Alice cooper, John Cleese, and Mark Hamill. Plus without the Muppet show, there'd be no Yoda.
I like the mummenshanz episode
The Star Wars episode is my favorite. Mainly because i am also a huge Star Wars fan.
I'm not even a big Muppet fan, yet 44:56-45:14 still made me cry. 🥲
My brother and I never watched The Muppet Show before, we only known the Muppets in the movies such as The Muppet Movie, Muppet Treasure Island, The Muppets 2011 and Muppets Most Wanted. Plus we used to have home media vhs of Muppet Classic Theatre and we got to see the 3D attraction used in Disney's California Adventure, Muppet Vision 3D.
The Muppet Show had lasted for 5 seasons and 120 episodes and its final episode aired on May 23, 1981.

I read that Animaniacs and Baby Looney Tunes writer Earl Kress was also a puppeteer in the Rainbow Connection finale in The Muppet Movie. I had no idea about Tim Burton.
It’s hard to imagine Tim Burton and John Landis working on The Muppet Movie. But it’s amazing to see them.
And Michael Eisner helped out with Jim when it came to the show.
I saw that Tim Burton was credited on his wiki page he worked on TMM but I didn't see him till Mat shown the picture with him and John in it proving he worked on the Muppets first movie. Tim also worked on Ralph Bakshi's The Lord of the rings too as a animator.
@@Starwarsfanboy0928 And tried to get a deal made at Disney later on to have Jim's Muppets be apart of the Disney family but Jeffery K. Ruined that from happening while Jim was around and The Muppets only joined Disney after Jim passed away sadly.
@@chrisbrasel8060 it was mainly drama between Jim, Eisner and Katzenberg. The main issues were that Jeffrey K was nothing but a jerk to Jim and Eisner wanted to have the rights also to the Sesame Street muppets which Jim didn’t really want but Eisner kept being persistent about it and annoyed Jim
@@brockpifer9929 Jim had the right to be annoyed as Jeffrey wanted too much from Jim regarding the Muppets and it lead to the deal failing through and I'm aware of this since I read the book about Jim Henson that detailed why the deal didn't go through.
Through the 70s they aired Muppet commercials.
Finally, the Muppet Show and its movie is now mentioned in this new video. I am really intrigued as a Muppet fan.
i watched the Muppet show on disney plus it was really good and silly
no surprise that the Muppet Movie was the only Muppet movie to be preserved by the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress!
I did nominate The Muppet Christmas Carol, but I highly doubt it’ll make the list at the end of this year.
It will be really cool if the Muppets and sesame Street had a crossover 🧡
In some ways, they actually have
check out A Muppet Family Christmas and certain episodes of The Muppet Show
The reason for not including Chris Langham is because he's in Gary Glitter's gang alongside Subway Jared and John K.
Oh ok thanks
The Muppets made their solo TV debut and became a pop culture stable that we love to laugh with to this day. This is just a random idea but imagine Mat got say Frank Oz to appear on the lookback and seeing Mat interact with a icon of his would be fun to see but again a random idea that'll never happen but who says the impossible is to happen. 😊📹 📺 🐸 🐻 🐖 🎶
So after Jim Made Sesame Street he made the PG Series the Muppet show and after that came Fraggle Rock.
@@henriquedearruda8902 Also The Dark crystal his masterpiece as a artist and filmmaker. Jim was a one of a kind man that we'll probably never see again in a long time. We miss you Jim and your still in our hearts and childhood memories.
@@chrisbrasel8060 Wait isn’t the Dark Crystal the first Jim Henson movie?
@@henriquedearruda8902 That would be The great Muppet caper in 1981 and then he went onto directing David Bowie in Labyrinth in 1986 before producing The Witches film adaptation in 1990 along with providing suits and puppeteers in the first TMNT film that year prior to his passing fyi.
yep i always knew it rainbow connection is the when you wish upon a star of the muppetverse
I love the muppet show
They should reboot it and bring some modern guest stars like Tiffany haddish or danny trejo or even the wiggles
Damn right they should reboot this, the muppets deserve to have the modern-era spotlight, the song the Rainbow connection is still my favorite song of all time.
@@Ghostlyking-tc3vu they kind of made rebbot with muppet now
@@extremelycharles yeah but it only lasted for 7 episodes
I’m talking about muppets now
Or are you talkinf about muppets tonight
I would die of happiness if The Muppet Show got a reboot. They are so MANY celebs they could get to turn out freaking awesome episodes and have the same classic feeling of the original
Jim never did better.
I will never forget the episode with Mark Hamil during the release of the Empire Strikes Back.
Awesome,I loved Watching the Muppet show.
0:00 Intro
2:32 Specials & The Land Of Gorch
7:35 The Muppet Show
30:00 The Muppet Movie
it's pronounced Gorch not Vorch
Happy Birthday to Jim Henson! 🎂🥳😇
Can’t wait for part 3
Do you know there was Here Come the Puppets! which is a special taped for PBS during the 1980 World Puppetry Festival, airing on January 4, 1981 hosted by Jim Henson and Kermit the Frog
one final comment for the muppet show thanks for reminding me that vincent price loved to play scary parts but showed for us 70'S KIDS he was also a cook and a true goofball. i am still shocked mel brooks never did the muppet show maybe if season 6 had happened
46:50 😂 so silly
Amazing video, I never knew Tim Burton worked on the Muppet Movie.
28:00 To paraphrase (and reference) part 2 of Animation Lookback Don Bluth, “If you guys wanna know what Chris Langham did, go find out yourself. But I must warn you, when you find out, you will regret it for the rest of your life and will always think ‘oh man I should’ve listened to animat’”.
The Muppet Show is a funny 😄 show 🤣🤣🤣
While it is true that George the Janitor was replaced by Beauregard, he did appear in rare cases as a background character in later seasons (such as For What It's Worth in the Bob Hope episode, as one of the hunters) and one of the male Muppets in the theme song.
Animation Lookback on Pokémon anime and movies
40:02 😮
Do you realize how painful it was to wait for part 2? it will be worth it, but I'm still trying to recover
Well life gets in the way sometimes and we have to wait for things to happen. I can't wait for part 3 when it's finished of course.
@@chrisbrasel8060 No kidding.
Awesome video, I'm looking forward to see part 3.
Amazing
Should’ve said: “the team even recycled muppets from other special for the show such as Robin and sweetums from the frog prince along with some of the whatnots and other frogs, catgut rover Joe T.R. Along with the rats and chickens from the muppet musicians of Bremen thog and the frackles from the. Great Santa clause switch along with Snarl the cigar box frackle who was later turned into gonzo the great and a rising star that briefly appeared in the tonight show and later the herb Albert special in 1974 was brought it to take center stage, as, Miss, Piggy”
Wow , I waiting for part 3
41:00
John Landis was performing Grover in that scene!.?
Muppet mania continues baybee!
Imagine the other special guest stars they could have gotten for The Muppet Show if it had been renewed for both a 6th and 7th season. Some famous people I can think of that would’ve made good guest stars on The Muppet Show include Robin Williams, Frank Sinatra, Debbie Reynolds, Henry Gibson, Joan Rivers, Michael Jackson, Itzhak Perlman, Yul Brynner, Sid Caesar, Sammy Davis, Jr., Jerry Lewis, Ken Page, Andrea Martin, Gene Wilder, Peggy Lee, James Belushi, Don Rickles, Tony Bennett, etc.
The last two were guest stars in muppets tonight.
@@Princess_-gp3ep I know. I meant in the original Muppet Show during the period when creator Jim Henson was still alive.
@@hunterolaughlin Oh.
Awesome video!

Making Kermit more closer to Jim then ever
i had wondered how jim pulled off rainbow connection and that song still gives me chills.
also and i truly believe this mark hamill owes his voice acting career to jim henson and the muppet show. NO MUPPET SHOW no gasp MARK being known for anything but luke skywalker and mark has shown he enjoys now being more known for the JOKER then luke anyways.
about time!
Suppose in the future, will there be any mention of the Jim Henson Company's CG animated shows such as Dinosaur Train?
I love this video
Mucking Fuppets????🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I’m currently kicking myself for missing the premiere.
Gonzo will always be my favorite Muppet💙. With Rowlf in second Place🐶❤️. I also Love Statler and Waldorf❤️. I love Tim Curry as Long John Silver❤️.
I love the AniMat puppet.
The only exception the guest stars didn't get their own Muppet-likeness after Juliet Prowse and Connie Stevens, were Paul Williams, as three Muppet versions of him were made for the Old Faschioned Love song number, though they were used exclusively for that part (Williams did get to keep one of the puppets, though its color have faded due to age.
Next time, the next chapter starring everybody! (AND ME!)
And me!
Me Too
And me!
What do they even mean by "the comedy's being to British for American audiences" What is exactly is "British Humor" And also why can't American audiences like British Humor, Americans like Monty Python quite alot
I bought the first season a few years ago and just got the second season, but since I grew up with the TimeLife DVDs, I’m not really feeling it. Maybe it’s because this was before the Disney buyout and it has Brian Henson introduce the show.
I think you definitely need to have some ventriloquism lessons from Jeff Dunham
He's not trying to be a ventriloquist.
36:19 I wouldn’t like performing while in that diving bell, im claustrophobic
Finally you upload part 2 ive benn waiting for it also question who made your puupet
Thanks for listening to the podcast!
Do you suppose the ABC reboot of the Muppets will be part of this Animation Lookback?
He did said that the history of the muppets will include the tough times they had.
Either way I can't wait for him to talk about The Muppets 2011.
14:57
Even Ozker joins the grew and plays Hilda, Wanda, and Janice in season one but left before season two. The same for her character Hilda.
14:22
Actually made her debut in The Tonight Show before Herb Albert.
My grandfather use 2 💜 Pigs in Space, God rest is soul.
22:36
And a brown hair pig in the first season.
Disney did you know about miraculous ladybug the movie 🎥🍿
Bear and the big blue house!!!
Hopefully it will be in the honorable mentions.
@@alexor1327 ok or in part 5 or 4
Sopwith the Camel? Was that form a real plane, or was that a Snoopy/Red Baron reference?
16:20
And Rowlf was kinda like that too but not fully
I watched the 2000 era of seasame street
Same as a kid growing up in the 2000s.
