    Wow!!! I’m blown away with this. I was wondering why my wigs got dried out and stiff early on…and my having to purchase another wig way too soon. Thanks so much for this info.
    Quick question…how often would I wash a wig that I wear every single day?
    Again…thanks for your time and sharing your experience. God bless!!!

    This is so valuable. I have a Heidi (Jon Renau) and GlamSlam (RW) that for no reason have become stiff, just sitting in their boxes for a couple of years. I am going to try the Downey on them to see if they can be salvaged. Jill, you are such a wonderful instructor. Thank you.

    You mentioned a very good point about making sure your font lace, is facing the proper way because it will stretch it in the wrong way. My "Ignite" will not sit down, it has forever wanting to flip up. Do you have any ideas on how to fix it? Since I had nothing to set it on when I got it, I set it over on a mirror sideways. HELP!! I use room temp distilled or pull water out of my refrigerator filtered water. I always soak my wigs in a small amount of cold or room temp water with a full cap of Downy or snuggle that are fragrances that aren't as laundry scented. I'm using amber and honeysuckle. I also use linen scented Lysol spray and give them a light spray inside the cap when I spray them with fabric softener mixed with water after I've worn. have you thought of dreft? I think it's called. I got these cool belt hangers at Dollar Tree. I turn mine inside out and hang them by the tag in the shower or on a tree limb if it's a great day!

    Sorry to ask a silly question but I am definitely new to wigs. I've been binging on your videos this last week. This wig that you wash has the Heat Friendly Fibers and the one I'm interested in does as well. I'm not one to style the hair, I like it just as it is. It is the Crowd Pleaser by Raquel Welch. My concern is that the curl it has, which is my reason for buying, will all fall out at the first washing. This one you are showing seems to keep the wave but I was told it wouldn't be the same. If you could advise I would really appreciate it. Thanks for your informative videos. ❤️

    Honestly, I have noticed that after using the wig products, my hair looks damaged! I spayed one side of one just to check and the "conditioner" made it clumpy and nasty. I'm going to do this. Also, get a Megahome water distiller. Do I sell them, no. But I've had two over the past 18 years. It makes a gallon at once (once or twice a day), and they aren't really that expensive. We have well water too, and that makes the very best water!

    I have a question to ask you please. I have been washing my wigs and found they dry out very fast. So just this week I purchased Jon Renau Shampoo and conditioner set THEN found your video. Because I cant return them, If I washed my wig with Jon Renau shampoo and condition and THEN did the fabric softener dip as you do, do you think it will stop my wigs from becoming dry?
    Please help. Thank you.

    Thanks so much for this awesome video, Jill! I tried your method of washing and conditioning on a wig I was about ready to throw out and it totally revived it! So I am using your technique on all of my wigs. I have two questions for you:(1) how often can you do the conditioning bath? and (2) do I need to wash them each time before giving them a conditioning bath?
    Also I tried the water-Downy combo as an alternative to the Jon Renau conditioning spray and I like it better. I think I am actually going to try a 75-25 blend with more Downy than water too.

    Jill, Great video! You're always so informational and info is needed. When I purchased my first wig 17 years ago, in a wig shop, they told me about Woolite. I skipped a lot of years wearing a wig and here I am again. A lot has changed and for the better. What is your opinion on the leave in spray detangler at the end of the day, do you use it?

    • @JillLynnBeautyTherapy
      @JillLynnBeautyTherapy  7 років тому

      Hi Zanetta! I wish I would have known about the woolite earlier! :( I am up in the air about the leave in detangler...it does help to detangle, but I don't like how the fibers 'feel' when it's on. Kind of sticky and takes away the softness. Someone suggested just diluting some fabric softener in some water in a spray bottle and use that! I am going to try it soon! Have you used the detangler spray?

    • @zibrown8745
      @zibrown8745 7 років тому

      Girl, I just ordered detangler and 3 other products on Heather's sale last night. I just hate spending a hundred bucks on product that I might not need. ugh. I guess I'll find out, won't I? I bought the Scarlett wig and hadn't used anything on her. I just spritz with water and shake it. I'm not sure that I like the fibers at all, maybe it's just this wig. Need to try some others for sure.

    Really enjoyed this video, and many of your others, as I am brand new to wigs also. You mentioned that you are on hard well water, and that struck a cord, because I am as well. I never thought of that potential problem until I watched your video! However, we do have a water softener, so the high mineral level is down, or non-existent, but the water softener ingredients leave something else in the water....not sure what it is.... maybe high sodium from the softener crystals? I notice on my shower curtain after a few days. Do you run a water softener with your well, or is it just the very hard water that you used, when you washed your first wig and ruined it? I'm curious to know, because I'm afraid to wash mine now, even with the softened water! I was planning on getting several bottles of distilled water, but I agree that the rinsing would sure take a lot, especially if you have a few wigs to wash! I only have one right now, but two more on the way, and have ordered all the JR hair care products. I will have the Woolite and the free and gentle Downy on hand, but think I should try my JR products first! Dilemma! (BTW it's my husband in the picture, but I wear the wigs! LOL)

      If you boil your well water a couple of minutes in a big pot, and then let it cool down to room temperature, most of the minerals will ‚fall out‘ and accumulate as loose, white sediment on the bottom of the pot. The water isn’t quite as ‚clean‘ as distilled water, but it I should work for this purpose. 🙂

    • @JillLynnBeautyTherapy
      @JillLynnBeautyTherapy  7 років тому +1

      Hi Julie! Ok, first....don't panic because I went through the EXACT same thing with Ignite when I got her. You will notice my struggles if you watched my Wig Chat w/ Ignite! haha! Don't do anything quite yet to her...give it some time. I had ALL kinds of plans I was going to do with her....but, the shape is beautiful (cut etc...) already...and finally she started growing on me. The longer front makes for versatility w/ styling...and Ignite has now become my favorite wig! Try wearing headbands in her...clip her back and have some fun working with her. Do what you need to (styling wise) to make her 'feel' comfortable for you. You will eventually wear her w/ confidence, and really grow to enjoy the gorgeous styling that is in there. Keep me updated!

    I have been wearing wigs for over 25 years and I have never found a channel that I enjoy as much as yours. I found your channel last night and I've been binge watching all your videos. I am going to try the woolite to wash my wigs. I noticed that even when I use the special shampoos for my wigs they never look good. My hairstylist mentioned woolite years ago, but I never used it.
    I'm going to give it a shot. I just got the Mariska by Jon Reneau and it's beautiful wig and I'm going to use many of the hints that you have videos on. Thank you so much for all you do for your followers.

      The Mariska comes in an average size cap now in case you’re interested. I’m turning 60 this year and it’s so hard to find a wig that isn’t too “wiggy looking” and flatters an older person. I do have a question. On the average how long does a synthetic wig last if worn everyday? Mine look good about 3 months then start to look straggly.

    How do you ensure the wig rack does not mess up the lace front on a 100% hand tied wig. I had bought the stands that one puts together and I also bought a wig rack that hangs in the shower similar to the little stands. Both are with the wig right side up not upside down. The hanging one looked like it would mess up the lace front so I am using the little stand. When I have had open wefts I have been able to hand upside down on a hanger but not with a 100% hand tied wig.

    • @JillLynnBeautyTherapy
      @JillLynnBeautyTherapy  6 років тому

      Jackie Savoy Hi Jackie! I just put the wig on the stand to dry being careful to make sure the lace front drapes nicely between the two tab delios. I have never had a problem with the rack ruining the lace if I make sure I do that. Once I did dry a wig and the lace dried a little buckled because it was over one of those tabs. :(

      Also, Jill do you think it will help to soften the lace front. My hairline lace seems to be a bit ruff and itchy.

    I never thought of using Woolite to clean the wigs. That's a genius idea. I always , always condition with fabric softener but when the wigs are in real need of an uplift, I soak the wig in boiling water. It works very well to revive!

      @JillLynnBeautyTherapy  7 років тому

      HI Catherine! I am so happy that this helped you a little. ;) I too was looking for a way to 'clean' my wigs without destroying them! ha! I have never heard of the boiling water thing. Do you only do that to your HD fibers/wigs? Very interesting! Thanks for watching, and for posting too! Hugs~

    So I wash an old wig using the fabric softener. Combed it out on the head Form and it looked great until I put on my glasses. It looks like small spider webs are all in it! Help!

    Has anyone tried washing with woolite since its actually made for delicates?

    • @JillLynnBeautyTherapy
      @JillLynnBeautyTherapy  5 років тому +3

      Denise Gasparini yes! Works great. I put a little in some cold water and swish it around carefully and let it sit in that for 10 minutes or so and then rinse REALLY well. Then I’ll do my soak in the fabric softener. 😉

    I watched glamfam lastnight and he says he uses woolite on his wife's wigs too, he says no need to condition because the synthetic wigs are plastic and can't absorb the conditioner anyway. I have tried adding body by drying upside down and it doesn't seem to do much of anything for my reese.

    • @JillLynnBeautyTherapy
      @JillLynnBeautyTherapy  7 років тому

      Becca M ...Yep, he's right. That's why products for real hair really don't work on synthetic wigs. Ahh...he's fellow Cosmetologist! Yes, synthetic wigs really can't be treated like hair. It's hard to think like that...even for me (a cosmetologist ) especially when it comes to styling, and even cutting them! It's a whole different animal!

    Hi
    Do you find that using the Downy brings back that fake looking synthetic wig shine that we try to eliminate with dry shampoo?

    • @JillLynnBeautyTherapy
      @JillLynnBeautyTherapy  6 років тому +3

      Really great question. Contrary to what I have read and learned from some others....I have not found washing an overly shiny wig takes away that shine. I know that wasn't your question...Haha. So, with that said, I have not found using fabric softener brings 'back' the shine we try to get rid of. It does 'restore' the fibers by bringing back that softness and silky look that I think just looks like healthy hair. HOWEVER, that wig you are going to soak in fabric softener... that you used dry shampoo on to take away the fake hair shine look will look like it did before you used dry shampoo because the dry shampoo will indeed wash out. This is why I mentioned that I have not found washing dulls down shiny wigs in my personal experience. Fabric softener does not make it worse....but soaking/washing in general WILL take out the dry shampoo.....so, you most likely may be re-applying it if the shine is bothersome. I am sure there was a much more efficient way to explain this, so for that....I apologize. LOL

    It seems that the longer you can wait and not wash your wig the better because the hair seems to lose some of the original structure after being washed.

    Hi Jill. Can I use conditioner on hand tied synthetic wigs? I heard that the knots come out and the hair falls out if conditioner touches the scalp of a hand tied wig. Can I soak such a wig in fabric softener or should I use a spray conditioner and spray only the ends of the wig?

    • @JillLynnBeautyTherapy

      Uma R That is such a great question. I have never had a problem, but if you are uneasy about ...definitely do what feels right. ;)

    I just purchased a Jon Renau topper and it says to wash it before wearing. Do you wash before wearing? I am a little apprehensive as this my first purchase and it was quite expensive. Thank you.

    • @JillLynnBeautyTherapy
      @JillLynnBeautyTherapy  6 років тому

      Mod-Planet Nope. I never do. I think no matter how synthetic fibers are washed....it’s one of those things that will break down the fibers. If it’s too shiny or has box hair I’ll do dry shampoo and make it work with gentle styling.

    • @mod-planet
      @mod-planet 6 років тому

      @@JillLynnBeautyTherapyThank you! I wasn't sure. Actually, this is the best looking topper I have purchased. It is absolutely very high quality. I purchased one from a different vendor and it was very thin - no where near the quality of the Jon Renau topper. It is not too shiny so I think I will just play with it. Thanks again! I really appreciate your videos, they have been so helpful.
