Kinda gettin pissed ngl. A million videos on the stupid bushings cuz it's an easy video to make for an easy an obvious problem. You know what isn't easy and obvious? How to actually do the replacement! Does your cable go through the floor or through the firewall? What electrical connections on the shifter itself need to be made? Can cables snap on the inside of the jacket or lose their tension? If you're reinstalling a transmission should the cable be in park or neutral? Is the only thing that keeps cables from being interchanged the linkage and length or are their other factors? THESE are what I want answers to. Not the thirteen hundredth "your bushing could be loose" video

      Agreed

Absolutely bloody agree. My shifter cable, being an old GM design, has NO plastic bushings; it's metal on metal all the way from the column to the transmission. The cable has started binding, probably due to excessive heat, and I want hints on that, not the 1,000th video on plastic clips or bushings.

there is nothing electrical all is mechanical only two cables one fro changing the actual gears and one for left amd right on atick

you just need to have them under your car placed like in a box where the actual shifter is

These type of videos so good. Although its named wrong. Should be common things we see that cause a failed shift cable.

lol how I got here when I was looking at at 2010 Jeep Patriot but this I can agree on, I had that issue where I adjusted the linkage so Drive actually went into Drive. After having to re-adjust the cable twice, I figured it was the cable either stretched, or now after watching this video, the bushing is worn out. I bought a new cable & next I'm going to change it. Great video to tell me that I was right when I decided to just replace the cable. So now I'll look for a video showing me what I cannot see, on what I need to do to replace it since it's very hard to see the cable routing on my 2010 Jeep Patriot....

thank you. im having this problem as we speak.

To permanently solve this issue take the shifter arm off the transmission and cut the peg off of the shifter arm then drill a small hole through it. Now you will be able to use a small bolt, a couple of washers, and a locknut to reconnect the shifter cable for good with a much higher level of security. I haven't had any more issues with it since I performed the surgery on it. This is by far the best fix to solve this common problem and provide peace of mind when driving down the highway, I Promise You That!!!!!👍😎👌

Yup, just replaced the whole cable at work because the bushing isn’t sold alone for Equinox 👎🏻. But they paid for it, had it been mine , your idea wins !

@@mayken6661 Hey when it first happened to me I didn't know what was going on I thought my tranny had seized up stuck in gear. Now imagine the cable detaching on the interstate and having to stop in the middle of the road for whatever reasons only to find out you can no longer shift into any gears.😲 That would be completely insane.😳

It seems to me the crappy and unreliable OEM cable connection was decided upon to make the assembly line installation very simple and quick and the hell with problems down the road for the owner. A shame.

As much money you bastards make. Off the poor people. Everything on transmission should be fixed or replaced not just painted black blue or silver I have been everywhere in the USA and 90 present the time we the people have to bring the vehicles back for a redo or the 9 dollar and hour help that pay reflects the outcome of are work

Can the shift linkage cable (or shifter cable) cause gear timing or selection issues such as the speed measured by input shaft speed sensor to be different from the speed of the engine, and therefore TCM/PCM to report "Input Shaft Speed Sensor No Signal" error?

DIY FIX. Get shock absorbent bushings n trim to fit alone with washers that fit inside. You may have to drill out the washer holes to fit. Then get some n use Eclips to hold them in place.
Will save you $30-$200 plus in cable cost alone n mechanics hourly fees.
