Strap and buckles to secure when wearing as a poncho
    Snaps to head hole
    Review Pros :
    ……………..
Versatile-can be used in many ways. - Works for ground sleepers and hammock users
Easy to vent if you are getting warm
    Price is excellent!
Good size for most people- easy to stay covered
    Weight is also very good
Material is comfortable against the skin
Warmth; far warmer than what I was expecting. It’s rated for 50F but I have taken into the mid 40’s and was still warm. Your mileage will vary but 50F is accurate for most people.
Excellent quality all around with only Minor loose threads here and there
Good compression bag; it works and compresses quite small
No hood which allows for a seamless blanket/quilt use - with other similar products, I have never used the hood myself.
    Review Cons :
    ………………
For some, a lack of hood could be a negative.
I would love to see snaps all the way to the top of the blanket so it could be used as a sleeping bag of sorts
It lacks a way to secure itself to a sleeping pad so that the user can toss and turn without it moving with them
Compression bag could be a bit bigger and that would make getting the blanket into it with a sloppy roll.
Because the nylon material is silky, rolling it tight enough to fit can be problematic.

A similar product that I have is the Klymit Versa Luxe blanket. It has an actual footbox, places to put your hands, and snaps around the body. I was able to locate one for only $43 at Sierra Trading Post. I don't have the official temperature information, but that's my personal contribution to this video.

He’s comparing it to survival bushcraft style rugged survival multiuse poncho. Versa luxe is a fancy backpacker blanket. Does not compare at all.
And this Onewind fails miserably against the Swagman without a hood

From the sounds of it this is similar in natured the military poncho liner, affectionately called a "woobie". The woobie does not have a hood, or at least mine didn't in the mid to late '70s. The poncho and the woobie combined were enough to keep me warm while trudging around a 100-acre military communications site doing security checks during the German winters. From the looks of it, it was designed, much like the military poncho and liner to be able to go over you and your rucksack. Sounds like a good product and at a darn good price.

I've had a OneWind blanket for a while now. Never heard of them before seeing a video by Blackie Thomas. It's a great blanket. I think this quilt and the blanket have the same material. Either way, it's an excellent idea.

Yeah, I have their hammock, underquilt, and the blanket that can be added to the UQ. I really do like their stuff - good quality at entry-level prices.
I wouldn't use the insulation in freezing or below, but anything above that and I'd feel pretty confident.

I have both the top quilt AND the underquilt for my hammock. They are absolutely the best to sleep with. I have found it to go below temps listed and easy to use to keep me warm. Onewind so far has provided great products for use in hammock camping as far as I have found over this last few months. I agree with you: hoods are mixed blessings! The ones on my equipment block my peripheral vision; they tend to hold in too much heat. If I needed to hunker down in cold weather or against a tree in cold, rainy weather, I would go with the hooded Swagman. Thanks for picking a key product to review!

One Wind could add an attachable hood to the 3 snaps in the head hole. That would at least offer people options. The down side might be that detachable things are more easily lost, but it still seems like a good idea.

    • @Thee-_-Outlier
      @Thee-_-Outlier Рік тому +1

I also love this and it performs well insulation wise. It doesn't pack as small as a down bag which is odd, but it's super light still. I was also thinking of buying a second and seeing how low 2 x of the 35-50 degree versions could get me and how small I could roll them in one stuff sack. I realize I'd need an aftermarket stuff sack, but if I can get a 10 degree bag this light for what would be $100 total that be great. To get to 10 degrees you'd prolly also need a sol escape bivy and maybe a liner. I think with that sleep system.you'd be good for 4 seasons here in the north east u.s. at least PA

This is an awesome alternative...great review, Luke! Definitely will add this to my gear list. Adding the Onewind quilt to the Swagman Roll should keep me warm and toasty on those temperature drop nights. This would be great to carry in the vehicle as an emergency blanket, too. I've been using the Snugpak Jungle Blanket or my old woobie lately to supplement the "Swag" but mostly to wrap my Thermarest mattress for additional insulation (increasing the R value). It's rare to find a quality product at a budget price.

Ofcourse it would. I believe this to be geared towards over and under quilt, for hamuc camping, as well as a simple blanket or sleeping bag type wrap. There is also the poncho or coat style wrap. Either way it would work great for improving your bag temp rating plus.

The one wind is great, but it could be improved a lot by just adding a few loops or reinforced loop holes and straps to give you options for attaching it to a sleeping pad, closing the foot box, or turning it into a sleeping bag.
I don't like the snap buttons either, they don't feel sturdy and I am afraid to damage the fabric over time.
It is very smooth, so it has a tendency to slide off from you.
For the price, it is an awesome product though. I am going to put my wife to the sowing machine to add some stuff to it and fix the problems. A few simple modifications would turn it into a truly unbelievably good product.
Edit: started typing before the video was over lol

Adding a new comment: mine arrived super fast from Amazon. Not heavy, or stiff at or and almost total coverage for a 5"1 female. I'm hoping to test it this week, but feel confident I'm going to be pleased with it. My only 'issue' right now is how am I ever going to fit it back into that stuff back? Best recommendation ever, thank you!

Hello, I don’t suppose you could day what size you ordered? I am the same size as you and would like it to go over my head when used in a hammock with feet in footbed. Sorry I know you posted this three years ago! 😊

I love my swagman roll you don't need a storage bag just pack it in the pocket on the front and its fairly compact and it's a pillow too

For me, I always wear a beanie in cooler weather anyway, so the lack of a hood is a pro rather than a con. I'll have to check the specs, but comparing this video to your review of the Swagman Roll, this quilt appears to pack down smaller - another pro. And of course the price is right. I was planning on modifying my Snugpak Jungle Bag, but for $60, I'll have to give the Onewind Quilt a try.

Luke, quick question...If someone had no intention of using this as a poncho, is it still one of the best options for a quilt under $100 or are there better quilt options in this price point?

Luke you rock buddy! Great review. Been holding off on the Swagman Roll because of the price. I don't like hoods and I am too wide to use the sleeping bag feature. Looking forward to getting mine. How about attachment to a poncho?

Chris- I'm a big guy too, and ended up getting the Hill People Gear Mountain Serape. It's wide and long enough, has a half zip footbox and a drawstring hood with a front zip for entry/ventilation.

Great find. This looks nice. I've wanted a swagman roll, but since I only very occasionally have use for it, I've balked at the price. This is around half the price, so I'm probably going to go for it.

Never use compression bags, never roll up - just stuffing inside the ruck - save time and weight. I need the fall version

60 bucks compared to 150 ish for the swagman roll and they do almost the same thing ya ill go with the onewind and use that and if it gets colder at nights have a jungle blanket or wobbie to add to it. this is a great video and recommendation
