Children’s play sand for your local hardware store is like $5 for 50 pounds! I sift mine before putting it in his cage because it does have some bigger pieces.

@@rachelstrick5556 please sanitize it!!! Some stores store it outside/ in a damp area and sometimes there may be bacterial growth that can harm hammies. There's loads of tutorials on how to do it

Your video is wonderful because it is comprehensive, encourages proper hamster care, and highlights that a lot of thought should go into owning a hamster BEFORE bringing them home. Owning a hamster is not cheap.

for the sand you can also get aquatic sand for aquiriums and they are like 5 dollars for a 10 pound bag just make sure that the sand isn't too pokey!

I recommend plastikote on Amazon in the clear color. It basically seals wood so if your hamster pees on it it won’t absorb.

Will hamsters not chew on hard plastic? Me and my daughters have been thinking about getting a couple.🥰 We have 5 Guinea pigs and 2 Bunnies.

i personally haven’t had a problem with my hamsters chewing on hard plastic, however each hamster is different. if you choose to use hard plastic, i would definitely monitor it to make sure your hamster doesn’t chew on it. i wish you and your daughter the best of luck with your new potential hamsters! 🥰 please remember to keep them separated if you decide to get two
Make sure that the ends of your detolf are hanging off of the ends of what you're using, otherwise the glass is unsupported & it will bow downwards in the middle & eventually break

Like you said I'd get play sand it's WAY cheeper but remember to bake it in the oven at 350 for 15-20 mins!

I got a hamster and Black Friday that died and it could be any hamsters they don't have to be black they were usually $15 but I only got it for 7 for the hamster and then for the bedding it was $11 for two in the cage I got him was really small my mom let me get a small when she would not let me get a big one and the cage was only $20 I mean $30 and the food was $5 I think I can't remember if I could be wrong about all of this but I know the hamster was seven something or 8 something it was a really good deal so next time I get a hamster I'm going to get it on Black Friday again
I think I might not get it on Black Friday the last one I did not get on Black Friday I got it on Easter because my hamster died on Easter I got it the day after Easter
I still miss my hamster name is more she was a robo hamster so far I think boy hamsters are nicer but I also have a Siri inside of syrians are just nicer or that mean girls can be mean boy hamsters are nicer or what

Some hamster Facebook groups say the swing isn’t okay. Would love to hear your input on that
I would say it depends on the location of the swing in the enclosure, how high up it is hung from the bottom, and your individual hamster. The same goes for hammocks and other hanging accessories. As long as you monitor it, you should be fine 💕

You just want to be carefull with small hamster hudeouts's window holes, because your hamster's nose can get stuck and your hamster will sufocate to deth.

Isnt aspen bedding very dusty?
it’s more dusty than paper bedding, but it is still safe. i only use it in small areas of the enclosure for some extra texture, or i mix a little bit in with the paper bedding to help stabilize the burrows!

The only thing I would change is only use the paper bedding
They can use other substrates, too.

Aspen is 100% safe and is good for burrows. It’s also a way cheaper bedding and considering it’s safe I wouldn’t criticize people for using it.

Aspen shavings can cause respiratory issues
aspen shavings are completely safe to use! however, i agree it is dustier than paper bedding, which is why i only use it in small sections of the enclosure.
