i agree it’s horrible, though i’m glad to have a more local pet store near me and they have better conditions for hammies compared to large chain petstores (they had no wired wheel, and a few toys, they had the younger hamsters all in groups together which is iffy but oh well).
um please dont come for me but i got my hamster from a pet store (but only because all the rescues near me didnt have any) and the lady that helped me was asking me questions like my cage i said i had two bin cages connected and i got an 8 inch wheel because my syrian is a baby still and she said that i was going to need another wheel bigger than that and i was screaming of joy inside also she said 8 inches of bedding or more and to let him get used to the cage for a couple of days the shelter where i adopted my last hamster didnt give me any bedding for him and this girl FILLED carrier up

Emmy Lytle honestly that’s great to hear that she helped you, and i get my hammies from a local pet shop (not a big chain pet store) so it’s fine that you got yours from one of that was the lash option! i would rescue hamsters but they are 1hr drive away and most of them are syrians but i prefer smaller hamsters like dwarfs or robots!
I can relate. I scatter feed, have a large wheel and sand bath, and a large enclosure, but my Syrian excaped yesterday, I was SO surprised when I saw him peeking under my bed! Guess now I'll have to put the bin cage lid on all the time.
hamsters are very petty animals! you can give them the whole world and they may not be pleased, this is mainly for syrians but for all hamsters too i believe (correct me if i’m wrong). just because they want to escape also doesn’t mean that they aren’t happy with their enclosure but let’s be honest, our houses are much larger then an aquarium.
I went there once and they never cared for their hamsters properly, once hamster got stuck in a water bottle and all the others were soaked, I told a worker immediately and they didn't even do anything for ages :(

unfortunately, it's profit first with most pet stores, especially the large chains! I just wish more people would educate themselves first before getting any pet, rather than putting their trust in these stores and taking what they say as "Gospel"!

Yes there are. Pellets, yogurt drops, small cages, small hay racks, and hutches (small cages). By the way I meant the pellets that have extra added seeds and nuts. Also never feed your rabbit the leafy part of a tomato plant.

Hi Victoria :) I dont know if you will read this but I really hope you do because my golden Syrian hammy named Harry unfortunately passed away at the age of 2 from a stroke a few weeks ago😔. I just want to thank you so so so much for being the reason that he got the best life I was able to give him💕❤ Before I watched you he was in a small cage with pine bedding. After watching your videos, I upgraded his cage to a bin cage and it had the Kaytee clean and cozy non-scented bedding 😊 You really have no idea how much i appreciate you. The same thing happened to me a few weeks ago I got my hamster and put it in a critter trail with pine bedding and I found you channel with researching about how to bathe my hamster I am really thankful that I now know proper care and my hamster is happy and healthy with 600+ sq in floor space 11’ Wodent wheel and lots of bedding. I remember when I got my hamster the previous owners the hamster got took away because they just put him in a really really really small cage they made out of plastic and did not put anything in there for him and they fed him once a month which was terrible so they brought him back well people took him away because they were not treating him well and then I saw him and I got him because he was really friendly surprisingly because he was in a really bad home but now he's a happy healthy hamster which I'm really happy for him
My hamster doesn’t have diarrhea but one time he fell in his water bowl (Robo 4 weeks old) and his tail was wet I was so worried because I watched your video in wet tail and I didn’t want my hamster 🐹 to suffer so at the vet they said that he was just wet, but he doesn’t have wet tail, Now we use a water bottle (most of the time expect when I put him in the play pin) BTW his name is Oreo
Just bought a hamster 2 days ago! I convinced my parents to let me buy one. His name is clover. He is a sable banded. He lives in a 595 square inch bin cage with his 11 inch wheel, 8 inch bedding, 2 hideouts, food with animal proteins, fruit, veg and grains. Love you!❤ *edit* thankyou so much for all the likes! I hate when people think about profit by selling those stuff but they did not think about the hamsters well being. They are a living creatures too . I went to the pet store yesterday and the pet store's employee suggest me to buy a hamster ball ! Of course i don't buy it. I always hope that pet stores ONLY sell safe hamster products. Thankfully where my pet shop I go to doesn’t sell any of these products! They sell very good quality products which is great. Sad how so many chain pet shops sell pretty much all these products 😔🐹🌱

It’s incredible how one youtuber can affect my animals so much. My rabbit lives his best life and from my very first hamster to my hamster now the care has majorly changed. My first hamster had a very small cage and now my hamsters have over 500sq ft bin cages

Honestly I got my hamster 2-3 weeks ago and doing research has woken up the Veterinarian dream inside me once again but in a much smaller scale because my dream job is still Animation. Pretty much you’ve inspired me to minor in animal science and assist in animal health care when I can as well as when I live on my own and have a good area take on new pets 🤗👌🏽

What really pisses me off about PetSmart and other pet stores is that not only do they market these delicate living beings as toys, but they also market all of their enclosures as toys. Princess Castle cage, Rocket Ship cage, a cage in the shape of a dinosaur... it’s ridiculous! They’re marketing all of these things towards children like they’re running through a toy store begging mommy and daddy for a new toy that they’ll tire of in two weeks. Animals (no matter how small and no matter how short their lifespan is) are LIVING beings that deserve respect and a LIFELONG home that will provide the best care for them. Animals are NEVER the responsibility of the children. Kids can help with caring for them but the ultimate responsibility falls on the parents. DON’T get an animal if you as the parents are not going to commit to it’s care for it’s entire natural life. It’s not the pet’s responsibility to teach your child responsibility. That’s YOUR responsibility. And pets are NEVER toys. If you get your animal on a whim for your begging child and allow them to view it as a toy, you are teaching them to be IRRESPONSIBLE. Your kid would learn a greater lesson if you just told them “No.” (I’m saying all of this to everyone).
@The Clown: “Unsafe” doesn’t always result in an outright injury. Certain beddings (like pine and cedar) are marketed toward small mammals but they are highly toxic and cause hair loss, itching and respiratory issues. If people haven’t done research on signs of illness in the species they have as a pet, they may not even notice that the animal is sick and suffering. Especially if the animal is in the kid’s room and the parent is irresponsible and thinks the kid can take care of it. Just like products marketed towards humans, many things are actually unsafe and harmful. And we have stricter guidelines. So things that are sold for use with animals CAN BE and many times ARE very unsafe and inappropriate for animals. Just look at all the multi level cages on the market that have pictures of hamsters in them and in the descriptions they say they are great for all small mammals. But hamsters aren’t climbers, they are runners. They need all one level and they need a deep enough tray so they can have at least six inches deep of bedding. So a tall, multi level cage with a one inch deep tray is EXTREMELY inappropriate for hamsters. I even saw a cage like that and it said it was a good cage for TORTOISES!!! So no, you can’t trust most manufacturers. People need to do the research themselves.

When i bought my hamster and he had a wired wheel so i bought him a 12 inch silent runner he is doing much better with a 800 cage and hides im happy I adopted him 🥺❤️
when i got my first hamster she was in a litter trail and she never got any fresh foods other then her seed mix and it was pretty much all sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds. over the past few years i’ve learned so much from victoria. no that that hamster has sadly passed away i have two new hamsters and they are taken care of probably better then any of me other pets😂. so thanks for making these videos they helped me so much!💛
I had common degu and the wheel with these bars on sides, he onece stuck out his head while he was running and it killed him. These companies made absolute crap bad accessories for poor animals and in most cases buyers don't know how dangerous it is. I'm happy that we have people like you.
My hamster got his foot caught in a hamster ball and he was freaking out and squeaking and I was also freaking out... We ended up getting him out too. I thought that they were safe at the time because the person at PetSmart said it was safe... I feel so bad. Im pretty mad that the worker lied to sell a product. My hamster could have gotten killed. Omg I actually found Wodent Wheels on the shelf of a local chain feed store! Really surprised me! Granted, they also had wire wheels, but plenty of solid large wheels. It was great to see!

Getting my daughter her first hamster, she’s 11 and responsible and so we found your channel and I have to say there was a lot I didn’t know as well. I think this will shape up as a good experience for her, she’s super excited and I’ll monitor how she’s doing and guide her as well. It all started because we found a baby cotton tail rabbit the other day, we took it in for a little bit to keep it out of danger until I could get a wildlife expert in our area to take it to do what’s needed to get back in the wild. It’s our responsibility to tc of animals, we’re like stewards and as top of the chain we should be responsible. Thank you for the great channel and content, my daughter will likely watch a lot so she can learn as much as she can.

today I found out that my precious baby peanut had passed. I had started watching your videos to learn proper care for hamsters. I bought my hamster peanut about 5 weeks ago and I did everything I could to give her an amazing life.🥺 Thanks to you, I was able to give my baby the best life possible while she was with me. Unfortunately it’s always the companies fault and not the worker. I work at a pet valu and I can assure you we do not sell any cages big enough for a dwarf hamster. A Syrian, yes but it’s marketed as a guinea pig cage, but for dwarves? Nope. I always tell people to get a plastic bin from Walmart or your hamster isn’t gonna live very long and you’re gonna waste your money. Idc what my bosses say I’m not supporting animal cruelty

I was in a pet store a few days ago, and the bunnies had giant set ups! The Syrian hamsters also had a decent size cage, with a natural look :) they did make it a bit too tall tho to promote their hanging hamster items
I once had a Syrian hamster that was completely box trained. The several hamsters I’ve had since then only wanted to roll in the (hamster safe) litter.
@@alyssa0411 i have a pudding hamster (yes they're a real breed) and she was box trained for a while, but she got lazy (I think) and just pees right next to her home. after I put a toy there, she stopped peeing there again :)
Would love to see a video on personal products that you use which are friendly towards animals and the environment. I’ve recently tried to cut back on artificial scents like scented lotion and perfumes. My animals aren’t in my bedroom but they aren’t healthy for people anyways and if it means my animals aren’t around it that’s a win win

Hi tori, My hamster died today from cancer. We took her to the vet but they weren't able to help her. So they gave her a shot which bascilly "killed her". Its not rlly animal abusing, because they didn't want hammy to suffer. (her instagram is @brownie_the_hamham) Btw nice video. I cried the whole day because we were so close.
I can agree with the hamsters ball, I bought it for my hamsters and one of the paws got stuck in between the splits that it had and I heard it squeak it was trying to get the paw out and it was bleeding, good thing it wasn't that bad but I felt bad for my baby hamsters to feel that pain. I threw it out so I made a paper box where she's able to run around more freely. I made it foldable so I can put it way under my bed or somewhere where it's not getting in the way and it's safe.

I love how you're a channel that's appropriate and beneficial for kids, it's so hard to find both of those in a channel because a bunch of kid friendly content claims to be kid friendly but they're horrible! Thankfully you have good intentions, it's very hard to find someone like that.

Yes there are. Pellets, yogurt drops, small cages, small hay racks, and hutches (small cages). By the way I meant the pellets that have extra added seeds and nuts. Also never feed your rabbit the leafy part of a tomato plant.

Before I watched you he was in a small cage with pine bedding. After watching your videos, I upgraded his cage to a bin cage and it had the Kaytee clean and cozy non-scented bedding 😊

The same thing happened to me a few weeks ago I got my hamster and put it in a critter trail with pine bedding and I found you channel with researching about how to bathe my hamster I am really thankful that I now know proper care and my hamster is happy and healthy with 600+ sq in floor space 11’ Wodent wheel and lots of bedding. I remember when I got my hamster the previous owners the hamster got took away because they just put him in a really really really small cage they made out of plastic and did not put anything in there for him and they fed him once a month which was terrible so they brought him back well people took him away because they were not treating him well and then I saw him and I got him because he was really friendly surprisingly because he was in a really bad home but now he's a happy healthy hamster which I'm really happy for him
My hamster doesn’t have diarrhea but one time he fell in his water bowl (Robo 4 weeks old) and his tail was wet I was so worried because I watched your video in wet tail and I didn’t want my hamster 🐹 to suffer so at the vet they said that he was just wet, but he doesn’t have wet tail, Now we use a water bottle (most of the time expect when I put him in the play pin) BTW his name is Oreo

Just bought a hamster 2 days ago! I convinced my parents to let me buy one. His name is clover. He is a sable banded. He lives in a 595 square inch bin cage with his 11 inch wheel, 8 inch bedding, 2 hideouts, food with animal proteins, fruit, veg and grains. Love you!❤

from what I know, birch shavings are safe too. I saw Rodipet produce them but it's really hard to find.
Birch is a hardwood shaving which would make it safe! I just don’t see it commonly used!

Honestly I got my hamster 2-3 weeks ago and doing research has woken up the Veterinarian dream inside me once again but in a much smaller scale because my dream job is still Animation. What really pisses me off about PetSmart and other pet stores is that not only do they market these delicate living beings as toys, but they also market all of their enclosures as toys. Princess Castle cage, Rocket Ship cage, a cage in the shape of a dinosaur... it’s ridiculous! They’re marketing all of these things towards children like they’re running through a toy store begging mommy and daddy for a new toy that they’ll tire of in two weeks. Animals (no matter how small and no matter how short their lifespan is) are LIVING beings that deserve respect and a LIFELONG home that will provide the best care for them. Animals are NEVER the responsibility of the children. Kids can help with caring for them but the ultimate responsibility falls on the parents. DON’T get an animal if you as the parents are not going to commit to it’s care for it’s entire natural life. It’s not the pet’s responsibility to teach your child responsibility. That’s YOUR responsibility. And pets are NEVER toys. If you get your animal on a whim for your begging child and allow them to view it as a toy, you are teaching them to be IRRESPONSIBLE. Your kid would learn a greater lesson if you just told them “No.” (I’m saying all of this to everyone).
@The Clown: “Unsafe” doesn’t always result in an outright injury. Certain beddings (like pine and cedar) are marketed toward small mammals but they are highly toxic and cause hair loss, itching and respiratory issues. If people haven’t done research on signs of illness in the species they have as a pet, they may not even notice that the animal is sick and suffering. Especially if the animal is in the kid’s room and the parent is irresponsible and thinks the kid can take care of it. Just like products marketed towards humans, many things are actually unsafe and harmful. And we have stricter guidelines. So things that are sold for use with animals CAN BE and many times ARE very unsafe and inappropriate for animals. Just look at all the multi level cages on the market that have pictures of hamsters in them and in the descriptions they say they are great for all small mammals. But hamsters aren’t climbers, they are runners. They need all one level and they need a deep enough tray so they can have at least six inches deep of bedding. So a tall, multi level cage with a one inch deep tray is EXTREMELY inappropriate for hamsters. I even saw a cage like that and it said it was a good cage for TORTOISES!!! So no, you can’t trust most manufacturers. People need to do the research themselves.

when i got my first hamster she was in a litter trail and she never got any fresh foods other then her seed mix and it was pretty much all sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds. over the past few years i’ve learned so much from victoria. no that that hamster has sadly passed away i have two new hamsters and they are taken care of probably better then any of me other pets😂. so thanks for making these videos they helped me so much!💛

I had common degu and the wheel with these bars on sides, he onece stuck out his head while he was running and it killed him. These companies made absolute crap bad accessories for poor animals and in most cases buyers don't know how dangerous it is. I'm happy that we have people like you.

My hamster got his foot caught in a hamster ball and he was freaking out and squeaking and I was also freaking out... We ended up getting him out too. I thought that they were safe at the time because the person at PetSmart said it was safe... I feel so bad. Im pretty mad that the worker lied to sell a product. My hamster could have gotten killed. Omg I actually found Wodent Wheels on the shelf of a local chain feed store! Really surprised me! Granted, they also had wire wheels, but plenty of solid large wheels. It was great to see!

Getting my daughter her first hamster, she’s 11 and responsible and so we found your channel and I have to say there was a lot I didn’t know as well. I think this will shape up as a good experience for her, she’s super excited and I’ll monitor how she’s doing and guide her as well. It all started because we found a baby cotton tail rabbit the other day, we took it in for a little bit to keep it out of danger until I could get a wildlife expert in our area to take it to do what’s needed to get back in the wild. It’s our responsibility to tc of animals, we’re like stewards and as top of the chain we should be responsible. Thank you for the great channel and content, my daughter will likely watch a lot so she can learn as much as she can.

Unfortunately it’s always the companies fault and not the worker. I work at a pet valu and I can assure you we do not sell any cages big enough for a dwarf hamster. A Syrian, yes but it’s marketed as a guinea pig cage, but for dwarves? Nope. I always tell people to get a plastic bin from Walmart or your hamster isn’t gonna live very long and you’re gonna waste your money. Idc what my bosses say I’m not supporting animal cruelty

I was in a pet store a few days ago, and the bunnies had giant set ups! The Syrian hamsters also had a decent size cage, with a natural look :) they did make it a bit too tall tho to promote their hanging hamster items

Yes, litter boxes are fine I've never bothered with them much though :)
I once had a Syrian hamster that was completely box trained. The several hamsters I’ve had since then only wanted to roll in the (hamster safe) litter.
@@alyssa0411 i have a pudding hamster (yes they're a real breed) and she was box trained for a while, but she got lazy (I think) and just pees right next to her home. after I put a toy there, she stopped peeing there again :)
Would love to see a video on personal products that you use which are friendly towards animals and the environment. I’ve recently tried to cut back on artificial scents like scented lotion and perfumes. My animals aren’t in my bedroom but they aren’t healthy for people anyways and if it means my animals aren’t around it that’s a win win

Hi tori, My hamster died today from cancer. We took her to the vet but they weren't able to help her. So they gave her a shot which bascilly "killed her". Its not rlly animal abusing, because they didn't want hammy to suffer. (her instagram is @brownie_the_hamham) Btw nice video. I cried the whole day because we were so close.
Where I live there is a petco where they sell lots of bad products and at first I bought many of them but luckily I switched to good ones

I spent $100 dollars on my hamster today 😂 I bought a wondent wheel, a huge hide, safe chews, and more repti-sand
i recommend children’s play sand from a local hardware store because you can get like 50 pounds of it for 5 bucks🌚

I can agree with the hamsters ball, I bought it for my hamsters and one of the paws got stuck in between the splits that it had and I heard it squeak it was trying to get the paw out and it was bleeding, good thing it wasn't that bad but I felt bad for my baby hamsters to feel that pain. I threw it out so I made a paper box where she's able to run around more freely. I made it foldable so I can put it way under my bed or somewhere where it's not getting in the way and it's safe.
I'll never use a ball again. Put max in one, he was so stressed he peed himself!threw it away. Never again.
I don't own a hamster and I am pretty positive I never will, but your personality and friendliness have kept me hooked right to the end of the video!
