I remember when my teacher showed this to my class in year 3 (as we were learning about advertising) and almost 10 years later; I end up serving her at Coles. Update: A day after writing this comment, Coles has brought back the Big Red Hand! :O
Funny Video - great Sound ! Matt was the best Drummer Quo ever had ...and i can't shake off the thought a great Rossi-Solo would fit this song ! R.I.P. Rick
They may be selling out - but as they said in an interview, they are getting distribution of the new album "Quid Pro Quo" in Coles Stores. Who goes to cd stores anymore? EVERYONE goes to the supermarket. That alone is a huge win for the band. Plus massive royalties for the music, appearance fees, and now an Australian Tour sponsored by Coles. That's how 70s Rock bands make money - touring. They know what they are doing.
Status Quo performing for a TV ad here in Australia. I can't believe it is so strange. What's next "Shopping all over the world" instead of "Rocking all over the world" Ha Ha :)
40 years in the trade they can promote what they want, there really down to earth guys who have proven time and again they can still impress crowds young and old.
I remember so well when this started to be used as a Coles advert, I’m 25 years old now but I was a big fan of Status Quo long before “Down Down, Prices Are Down” was ever a thing. Quo forever 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Top five Reasons as to why this is a good thing 1 it gives a new lease of life to the song 2 It is far more easier to digest than the Woolies "Fesh Food People" tune which is rammed into you when ever you go there 3 It is funny, 4 It brings Them back again & gave us another Status Quo Album, 5 Life is far better with Quo in it at least I think so
I'm glad they've stopped playing that "Fresh Food People" song. But then they were playing covid safe stuff or advertising their own stuff when I'm IN the supermarket already
It's Quo's music. They can do what they like with it. Good on 'em for introducing their great song to a whole new generation of listeners. BTW, notice that Francis's guitar has a maple neck and Rick's has a rosewood fretboard. Both appear to be Tele necks. Wonder what those BIG RED HAND guitars will be worth in twenty or thirty years time. "SAVING MONEY IS NEVER ANNOYING !!!!" (Marketing Genius.)
I once took a huge red hand off the wall at Coles, and got told off for dancing and singing this song by the Coles lady in the deli ... I was a lot younger then....42...
sometimes people take music too seriously, quo will be amazing whatever they do , you know why ? because they don't give a shit about what anyone else thinks, i thought that was what rock n roll was all about right ?
Great vid guys saw it the other night on ch10 melbourne australia oh yeah a ripper couldnt believe my eyes finally a QUALITY TV ADD did I say that ha ha well done, cheers from oz
Do you know why we're seeing this? Because the mainstream pop-culture skidmark that is popular radio doesn't play these guys. Their music was brilliant and interesting back in their prime, but today people would rather listen to Kesha slut it up or Usher sing some bullshit about club girls laden with auto-tune. If anyone's to blame, it's us. We put them in schlock advertising campaigns because we first put them on the shelf to gather dust. A real shame.
Jeremy ahhh but old people like me have never left Status Quo. They released Pictures of Matchstick Men when I was 3, I’ve been a fan ever since. Today after 50+ years I still lose my mind when I hear that riff. Today’s “musicians “ have no talent, and as for those two you mentioned... WHO????
Viewers: Please watch the Hee Bee Gee Bees actual hit song of Boring Song. Quo really liked it which shows how they don't really give a fuck about what anyone thinks when parodying their music. How I do not miss this song. But it randomly propped up today in me head again. So well played..
I’m playing this video every day now because Coles prices are not down and going up every day. This is such a good song and amazing 🎸 guitars used.
That's what's I love about Quo. They never sold out.
Unlike Coles after this was made
Its totally bought this song back to life. Good to see Wesfarmers have a sense of humour.

One of the decent re-makes of a song into an ad campaign. Not fussed what Status Quo did as it's they're song and they can do with it what they like!
Of course, it's their baby
I think you mean they can do "Whatever They Want" with it? 😉

The price of tuna went UP at my Coles...
Wait until it's on special.
SealAngel it doesn’t, it was Coles brand
The worst thing is that they did this in Abbey Road studios.
Someones gonna get shot
This is annoying but damn is it catchy
Why is it the worst thing? (Depending on the recording at the Abbey Road studio.)
Is this also where Rick Parfitt did his contribution to Brian Pern's charity album?
40 years in the trade they can promote what they want, there really down to earth guys who have proven time and again they can still impress crowds young and old.
they always have a blast fair play they have taken some stick in the music press over the years long live rock
Did Coles pay in cash or in shopper dockets?
Super idea 🎸🎸🎸👍👍👍👍👍
Now it's up up!! ^^ PRICES ARE UP!!!
😂
Completely agree with DKashman and Tripweed: it gives the song a new lease of life, and it is fun to watch them having fun recording it.
Oh dear how low can you go down down to the depths apparently!
I love this! I'm playing it on loop.

No need to insult people, if you don't like it then do not listen to it.
Up up, the prices are up at Coles!
Bloody wicked.
I look forward to INXS doing an ad for Ikea with ‘I Need You Tea Light.’
Status Quo vor ever.I Like it.

Respect from me, it's hilarious.

Great commercial, I wonder who wrote the new lyrics?
Written by Francis Rossi alongside Bob Young. So, they both or only he (I don’t know) rewrote the lyrics.

Selling out doesn't get much more defined than this. This is it personified ladies and gentlemen. Fucking tragic.
