Doug's GT literally looks like the original, if the original went to the gym for 2 a days and started eating 5 times a day. I've never seen them together until this video. Ford really did a great job keeping the car true to it's heritage. The new GT is just meh to me. But thankfully, I'm poor and I'll neve have to worry about owning any of the three. However, there might be something I can afford over on Cars and Bids...
The way I see it, the original GT was a homage and in some ways an evolution of the GT40. The new Ford GT is simply an evolution of the 05 GT, and only has connections to the GT40 by lose heritage.
Owning a gt40 isn't that outrageous. Go over to superformance. They make a licenced copy of the GT40 is about as true to the original as you can get without breaking the bank. Love the way the new GT looks, hate how it sounds. The big displacement V8 was the 1960's GT40 and 2005 GT's trademark, throwing that out on the new car they lost the plot. Should have done a boosted version of the Mustang GT350 V8 IMO.
@@AaronSmith-kr5yf yeah, I kind of agree with you on the V6 but that's the way of performance these days...you want better handling you have to overcome inertia of a larger mass...the v6 eliminates some of that. Along with the fuel economy. Races are won in the pits and less fueling stops helped them win LeMans again. But yeah, the GT40 and even the GT were "hot rod" supercars of the american market. Not twitchy high tech wundercars like ferrari and koeniggiggsisgg and McLaren. Same as the Pantera.....they wouldn't sound the same or be the same car with a flat plane crank in them.
I think it might be die to the fact that the RS2 has less numbers and the parts are harder to find and it's a less rugged car, both cars are old and they show their age in some ways, one way I feel that Doug was worried about was in fragileness, I don't think the RS2 was as rugged and durable as the GT was so he was as worried when launching it if he would break it, and if he did it would be very hard not only to find another RS2 like his but also a replacement part for his RS2
@@titicaca. I know, but I have no idea where to get the stats for the US. It's just kind of funny that in the UK the RS2 is actually rarer. (At least in terms of road-legal cars. There's even more RS2s that are still registered but not taxed/MOT'd).

You want a little play in the engine mounts if you make them too rigid you could possibly flex/warp the chassis and would feel it in the cabin or effect your ride
Then it's not a real Ford GT. Put a rocket engine in the back and call it whatever you want. They did modify and kind of produce a Twin Turbo version. (I think they are spyders)

Years ago, I built a GT40 kit car from the original plans. The kit was from a company called KVA (Ken Attwell). He worked on the original car and was allowed to keep the plans. I had a Ford 355 V8 in it with ~550BHP. As the car weighed only around 750kg, it went very fast indeed. It easily did over 200mph and 0-60mph was only around 3 seconds. Unfortunately, due to the change from gallons to litres here in the UK and the fuel price rocketing up, I sold it. With twin foam-filled 25 gallon fuel tanks, it only did 18mpg at the most, but I wish I had kept it.
Well... I hate to break it to you Doug, but someone actually DID race an '05 Ford GT against a MKIII GT40, and they also did it alongside the even rarer GT70 at the same time some years ago on a channel called "Carfection". But either way, I think you were VERY lucky to have this opportunity, and I'm sure you must've had an absolute blast out there! Very cool video Doug, looking forward to what you may have in store for us next!

It would be amazing just to see an GT40 run instead of being parked away in a museum never to be driven again. The Peterson has my respect for actually using their cars and they definitely have my respect for actually using what is close to being a priceless car, and not only driving it but drag racing it.
