Why do you think a flat plane crank that's designed for a race application. Would make less hp and be weaker? That crank should handle 1000hp+ without a problem. Ford's 5.2L GT350 has had them since 2013 if I remember correctly. There's a few making 1100whp+ with boost on an otherwise stock motor. I will say personally. I think the cross plane does sound better. Chevy wouldn't have a problem making a reliable 800hp+ with a flat plane if that's what they wanted. I'd love to know where you got this idea a flat plane crank make less hp and wouldn't handle much more than 600hp. That's just not the case. Now they do make little less torque. Although when used in the right application. The trade off is worth it. You get better exhaust scavenging, faster higher revving engine. Plus it's a lighter smaller engine with a lower center of gravity. The C8 zo6 is definitely the right application.
This Z06 is going to be a beast. I can’t wait to see this in person. All these exotics going for $200k-$500k and Z06 starting at about $85k-90k and after some options I’m estimating about $105k-$115k maybe pushing $120k fully optioned out for this Z06 GM is really changing the game and doing a great job.
In my opinion I think Z06 going to be 700+,. And the reason is because Cadillac is coming out with a black wing CT5 and CT6 and those are going to be 550- 650 horsepower, and I believe that they're saving the 1000 horsepower for the ZR1..
Coming from a Sport Bike perspective, I wonder if this new DOHC engine will use a balance shaft to quell vibration. Honda used two in their CBR-XX I-4 motorcycle engine to make that flat-crank HP engine smooth as glass. Who knows, maybe putting a balance shaft inside the V, where the camshaft resides in the pushrod engines, could do the job and be used to drive ancillaries? Or, they could just do a bang-up job of balancing the engine internals. Corvette does have their super engine-building shop that should be up to the task.
I sure hope the rumors of twin turbo with 800 HP for the C8 Z06 is true. My C7 Z06 already has 650HP so they better duel turbo it. I can’t see GM having less HP in the new ZO6. It wouldn’t make any sense to build the new Z06 with only 100 more HP than the base car.
If that orange picture is the Z06, man that looks so good. Those new intakes and rear lines set it off. And that wide front fender I hope makes it to production! Please make a GS, but don't make it cost 90% of what a Z06 does. That was some BS last time. Wow that is beautiful. I have the video paused right now just staring at it.
I honestly haven’t followed a lot of these developments, but the next Z06, being the “NA track weapon” that it is seems basically like a GS, so there wouldn’t be much room for one. I guess they could basically use the cheaper Stingray motor and do some of the same aero bits and call it a GS for like $75k... but yeah .. $60k to $75k and $90k is a pretty narrow gap especially when the GS and Z06 are going to be more more similar, it seems. I would’ve considered a C7 GS over the Z06 despite the narrow price gap bc I like to track my cars and could definitely push the GS harder with more confidence. I went with an SS1LE which is honestly still a lot of fun and quite quick. All I know is I’m very excited to see what they do with this Z06 bc it should line up perfectly with my next buying cycle.
Kable Rain man, this would be absolutely glorious ... sounds kinda like the mentality of the C7 GS ... track focused but not super high HP...so I don’t think a GS will make as much sense this time around
Gt3 RS is probably the standard for high revving NA. That 4.0 RS puts out 520hp, 500 in GT3 so 125-130hp per liter. Say this thing does “just” 120 per liter you’re at 660hp without forced infection. I’ll take it!
@@tomwomack3167 still not enough to compete with f8 tributo or Mclaren 720s, but enough to compete with the 640hp Porsche 911 Turbo S and the Huracan Evo
homerfeltheim12345 they were planning on making the C7 n/a as well but the ohv engine layout wouldn’t meet emissions when making more power than the Lt1. So they just went the supercharged way to meet emissions and make more power
Matt M I hope they do that with the grand sport. I have had the chance to drive a Z06 on track but it was in Arizona. Maybe that is what the problem was. I personally prefer NA which is why, if true they give the same engine to the grand sport I’ll go with that model
@@HorsePowerObsessed Oh Yeah! Looks alone will sell this car by far than any car on the market, especially high performance cars. The Z06 Vette is Ultra High Performance. I will be putting my on one for sure. Dodge are Hideous looking a brick, loaf of bread! Ford a oval roach looking insect, Just plain Ugly! The Vette is just Gorgeous!
The problem(s) with a high revving cost saver (a cheaper, smaller engine approach where HP costs are shifted to customer maintanence) is very low torque, just as I've predicticting from the start of this misguided effort. A 600+ HP/430 ft-lb car has to spin to create HP, and the only way for it to spin is to move, but it can't move with no torque. This will look like very low torque 911s, timed in the low 3s to 60 mph but slow to distance. A stop light race loser. It might do well on sweeping highspeed tracks where RPM stays high. But HP sells cars and Torque wins races because a high torque car leaps out in front, the low torque car can hit 60 sooner but it is still way behind. Another problem is lifecycle costs of a high vibration, high RPM engine which are exponential in exchange for linear HP gains. Thats makes perfect sense for a low-miles exotic, but the approach is not tennable for the Corvette demographic.
Sandy you’re missing the point. The Z06 is and always has been the track version of the Corvette, not a straight line brute. The ZR1 is the high HP high torque version. The transmission will be programmed to keep the engine in the sweet spot of the power band while going around the track. If you are so knowledgeable, maybe you should apply to GM for a job and show them how it’s done.
You don't understand it. It's not a "cost saver". And if flat plane crank engines are such a bad idea, why do you think race cars have been using that for decades? Why do you think GM switched to a flat plane crank - because they were at the end of what could be done with a cross plane crank, and to move _forward_ and continue to increase performance they had to do this. Same reason for switching to a midengine layout. The front engine layout was at a dead end. So sure, go ahead and tell the race engineers you know better than they do how to build a race car. Sorry, I'll listen to the race engineers before listening to you. This is basically the engine designed for and being run in the C8R. Also, because the engine spins at such high RPM, you use shorter gears that gives you the torque back. Not tenable? I will not buy any Corvette until it has a flat plane crank. For people wanting a track toy, this is _exactly_ what the "Corvette demographic" will want. Clearly, you are not the target demographic for this model. But _many_ people like me, we ARE the target demographic for this model. For you, they will sell you the Stingray.
You can do it sniper! I saved up to get my c7 dream car last year. Just had to focus and ignore what other people were saying (like “you shouldn’t get a new car, you should get a used one, why would you want that) cuz its MY DREAM not Yours! Lol
The only thing that I don’t want about the C8 ZO6 is it to sound like a Ferrari. I love the natural roar of the Corvette V8 engine. Best sounding V8 in the world. Please Please and I mean Please keep the regular sound. That’s the point of competition.
Why? What do you think it would need? I would just do wheels, maybe tires, lower by 3-4cm(of course), exhaust and tuning. Then lots of time at Fontana(autoX) and Willow Springs track day and club events. Putting a compressor of any kind on this Z06 would be completely missing the point.
Huge vette guy. Huge chevy guy. Think its awesome. Hopefully they keep the camaro pushrod v8. What ever the engineers gotta do to make the vette king of the track and still some what affordable and reliable im good with.
very likely if it is FPC NA it will be a major fail sure it will track great but it will stop there. revving that hi there will be crappy low end TQ, You will have to get to 3-5k rpm to get into the power band, so for most street driving it will suck compared to the C8 Z51, Street Speed 717 is already putting twin turbos on his C8 along with a bunch of others what to you think a car like that would do to the NA FPC other than destroy it. this sounds like you are reading Car and Driver again. Can pick this up at any news stand. Maybe you should take a look at /Corvette Forums they have some very interesting info there.
My C8 Vert is still 3000 status but it is getting so late in the year I think I’ve now decided to wait for the ZO6. My C7 ZO6 Vert is still doing fine and with bolt ones puts 700+ hp to the ground. No shortage of fun while waiting for the C8 Z!
I’ve noticed that the taunted C8 horsepower is what it dyno’d at. If the C8 Z06 dyno’s at 600hp, it’ll be 50hp more than the current C7 Z06. Most i’ve seen dyno’d were around 550hp. Also, even with a rear engines the C8, there is still tire spin and with the Z06 that means a lot of tire spin.
No chance it is just a normally aspirated 5.5 Liter engine. It quite simply won’t have enough torque. There is a limit to how much torque you can get out of 5.5 liters without boost. No production NA engine has ever developed more than 90 lb/ft per liter and most high performance cars are closer to 80 lb/ft per liter. No chance the Z06 is going to have less torque than the base model stingray. I think it will actually be a hybrid or it will be a boosted engine.
Who said it will have less torque than the Stingray? I bet it'll have the same or a bit more. One of the tradeoffs for having a flat plane crank and a high redline is torque, but I bet it'll still be right around 500 lb-ft. This can be a good thing by the way - less torque means less traction issues while still having all the power you want. Part of the C7 Z06's problem was that with 650 lb-ft in a FR layout, it would just blow the tires off the wheels every time you put your foot down, first gear was unusable, etc. Less torque will mitigate that while still giving you huge power on the top end. I think it's brilliant, frankly. It allows Chevy to maximize the traction advantages and weight distribution of the MR layout while adding more power at the same time, so we will see the 0-60 numbers drop a bit since traction will not be the limiting factor unlike the C7 Z06. The ZR1/Zora will have a hybrid powertrain and a boosted engine. Not the Z06.
The huracan At 610 hp and 413 torque literally walks everything under 200k excepts 570s and 911 turbo s transmission and weight and rear gearing ratio and more traction
I don't think they'll have too hard a time beating 600 horse. The voodoo makes 520 out of 5.2 liters. The voodoo has fairly heavy crank, no where near the lightweight Ferrari. Technology has improved to allow more power than what's been produced before. Look at the specific output of the 458 and then add a liter of displacement. There is also rumors of a dual intake like on a prancing pony. This helps make power, shaves off a few pounds, and sounds completely mental. Stay safe Chevy engineers... we need you more than ever.
The car for someone who wants a new reliable (hopefully reliable -now dohc) Ferrari/Lamborghini/McLaren etc. that isn’t turbocharged or awd. It’s going to hurt some of the used market Ferrari/Lamborghini sales. Although some of those are bought to store them away so they appreciate, this is for the driver !
I thought that as well in the beginning but so far nothing bad to report. The passenger side opening is the only side to have a visible radiator so it's the only one to be concerned with. With that said, the C8.R has mesh on both sides so maybe it is an issue with the higher performance models...
I believe flat plane crank engines (purely based off the Ford gt350) don't seem to have a lot of torque. I'll be interested to see how it comes out. But it really seems they're changing the vision of their mission. Going from straight line king to racetrack monster
I don't mind it being na but I'm gonna go against the grain and say a 4.4L fpc V8 with twin turbos, 8400 rpm, 705-750 hp and 620-638 tq. The orange render seems very close in my mind, maybe front fenders being different to prevent less debris into side intakes though.
This car its going to be nuts. Flat Crank engine rev up quicker the issue with Flat Crank its vibration thats why euro cars don't go over 4.0 liters. How are they going keep vibration in check with a 5.5 liter? That would be interesting to see.
The for the input However I think there going to be diff. Layers offered for the Vette Examples : C8 : Standard & Z51 Models 490hp C8 Grand Sport Version (being 600hp Naturally aspirated engine that everyone's talking about) C8 Z06 / Z07. = 800hp Twin Turbo Setup C8 ZR1 = 800+hp Possible Elec. Asst. C8 For a = All Bells Whistles But Possible an upgraded version like the zo7 is to the ZO6
....I have read that Ford flat planed engines have vibration issues...I have heard so many C8 rumors, Justin...I would be happy with future mods like better exhaust and a tune..
This is exactly why I believe the Z06 will be naturally aspirated. The flat plane crank engines are hard to work by themselves with let alone adding forced induction.
Hi Justin, I like to see a limited run of the C8 Z06 available in manual transmission. Lets hope GM delivers this option for the die heart corvette fans.
they might as well add vertical doors as an option for people that want lambo doors, I think it would look real cool..the real doors, not that stuff where you open it half way then lift it up
For the record, I’m ok with a flat plane crank V8 making 600hp in this car. It’s going to be insane. Weren’t they having issues with the frames twisting in early test mules?
If my dream of getting a C8 Z06 falls Thru for some reason, I will probably add the C6 Z06 to the collection. Its Chevrolet's equivalent to the Shelby Cobra. No frills, raw power, all sports car. Period. A timeless auto...
I appreciate that! The active aero has been discussed on the channel before but basically, it's the aerodynamic bits such as a spoiler that will raise and lower based on speed.
@@HorsePowerObsessed but I want details like, high much does it move? which way? how much down force and drag in different positions? does it have different positions? does it look the same as the other wing? if not how is it different? how much weight does it add to the car? does it mount to the frame or the body....lots of details missing...
it is sad whats going on in the world right now , i hope this thing end as soon as possible without more damages than whats already has been done. stay safe everyone. and hope each and everyone of you gets a new C8 Z06 😁
A question from someone who has never seen a c-8 in person, what is your take on rain water entering engine bay. I have a order in. I recently saw a video of a c-8 owner running his c-8 through car wash ( I would NEVER do this), but you never know when you might get caught in a downpour. I do not like the idea of engine getting wet, over time this seems like it could cause some problems with electronic engine controls. Thanks
Even though the C7 is the first Z06 that isn’t N/A I’m kind of shocked to hear that the C8 is going to be. I’m all about it sounding like a Ferrari though. I have to say also that those black cup wheels on the orange rendering look fantastic. The wheels are my biggest complaint on the C8 but I think that’d be my pick if I were to ever own one. I’ll be interested in what wheel designs the Z06 will have...
The ZR1 (if they call it that, maybe it'll be Zora) will have twin turbos. Then there's the rumored halo hybrid version. You'll get your forced induction... and the mighty price tag to go with it.
Pricing them to the point that only certain people can afford. I bought a new z06 in 2003 and it listed for 52k and got it for 46k. Basically in 17 years they have almost tripled in price - crazy.
I may be interested in the C8 Zora as long as it's not an ICE/hybrid. The C8 Stingray is already 7 - 8 secs per lap slower around the Spring Mtn school course than the C7 ZR1 ZTK and has a slower 0-60 and 1/4 mile times as well. Not to mention the ~17 MPH slower top speed (as if anyone cares). Although the C8 Z06 may make up some of that, I believe it will still be slower. 600-650 HP isn't 755 - 772 HP and currently the C8 Stingray weighs almost 200 lbs more as well. However, if they can add 200 HP and shed 200 lbs of weight they may have something. And I suspect that will be the case with the Zora. I'd put $ on it. .27 cents at least. ;)
I think this one will start at 95k. They have to leave some room for the GS when they release it a year or two later. I think the GS will start at 75-80k. Same formula as before, Z06 body and base model engine with Z51 suspension pieces.
IF people got their order Accepted before the March Deadline... and it gets 'bumped' to a 2021 ... will they still get their 2020 PRICE..? (My Brother's Order was accepted on the afternoon the day before the deadline.)
That's a great question. I'm pretty sure the answer is no, but I can't verify that. Because you always have the option to cancel and get your deposit back.
Would a track based model ZO6 be less driver friendly? More stiffer suspension and maybe no magnetic ride? I've hated driving some of the track based cars that I owned. It looks great though
Dubs I’ve had 2 Zo6 C7 and can tell you they where very easy to drive and to your point I currently have a 2019 ZR1 which is even more track focused and it’s even easier to drive. It trails less with the 10.5” wheels in the front and seems more stable probably because of all the aero. They do a real good job at keeping track focused docile for the street. As most people don’t track them. Hope that helps.
If it looks like the car in the pic I'm completely sold. I already know the performance is gonna spectacular. Chevy, here, take my money please! In the next few years the C8 will hold the Nurburgring production car speed record. All for less than $150k.
Yep, makes sense and will be a good thing leaving the C7 Z06 a unique beast like the Big Block C2's were of times past. Some day on an auction block in the future... Naw, but I like the thought of a change to mimic there "racing side" as that is why the Z06 came into being in the first place. Appears the ole guys running the show are waxing nostalgia in a modern way. Good deal and although I will be the one missing the push rod cross-plane crank already gone in the R... you can still have get it in the Base C8s and jack it anyway you please.
I was just thinking recently that with GM not able to get the Stingrays out right now and the 2020 MY cut short, I bet the Z06 will be delayed to at least 2022, and it looks like that is indeed the case. Seeing this document give a starting price at 85K is exactly what I've been predicting for a long time now. So many were saying 90-95K or higher and I was like there is no way, just watch. Given how the C8 Stingray is priced vs the C7 and the price difference from base to Z06, I figured 85K would be about right. Personally I'm fine with it being pushed out a little longer since this gives me more time to save up for a larger down payment and more opportunities for pay increases to help pay for this beast. Something like this will look real good in the garage next to my red 2008 Z06. :) Also, I am super excited to see this have an engine that is like a Ferrari. I will probably never be able to have one and after riding and driving one belonging to a guy at work and being blown away by it, having a Corvette, something obtainable, that is basically the same thing is exciting to me. I'll watch videos of the Ferrari 458 (probably my favorite model) and just be like OMG and if the Z06 is just like that, then bring it on!
Prices are starting to go up and hit above 100k mark. The whole appeal of this was was that it looked like a super car, he had enough power to possibly compete with a super car, but was marketed and advertised as starting at 60k. This reminds of the Nissian, where they started off at below 100k and now have claimed up to 200k for certain models. And the entry model at over 100k
I hope this financial crisis doesn't wreck the sales for the C8 and force execs to halt development and production of it. GM has made a bold move with a ton of $ put into development. And they deserve to have it a sales success as they really delivered a great product.
100 hp? Save your money. Even if Chevy could trim off 400 pounds, it will still only be able to outperform the same cars the current Stingray outperforms, just a bit more. Will it be able to contend with the McLaren 720s the Lambo Aventador or Porsche GT2 RS? Will it be able to get to 60 in no more than 2.5 seconds? It will have to lap the Nurbergring in a good bit less than 6 minutes or better the current Stingray's 7:28 time by more than a minute and a half? GM might be better off to call this thing a Grand Sport and debut the ZR1 a year after.
The Z06 has always been a track focused midpoint model between the base corvette and the ZR1. Why are you acting like that's changed for some reason? The ZR1/Zora is for the 720s/aventador/GT2 RS etc. And the grand sport has always been the Z06's suspension and wide body/aero but with the base engine with much less power. The C8 Z06 has 600+ hp according to that doc. Why would they call that a grand sport?
@@vernonprice5986 each new model has always exceeded the last and this one isn't going to be as much of an improvement as the last. Hell the ZO6 has been a 200+ mph car, if they put a wing on it, it probably won't be anymore.
@@jasonrhodes9683 Is that a joke? If the C8 Z06 comes as described with that 5.5 32v engine, it's going to obliterate the C7 Z06's lap times. It's going to be lighter than the C7 Z06 with VASTLY more traction and better handling - also it says 600+ which means MORE than 600 HP, which means we are talking about LESS than a 50 hp difference between the C8 and C7 Z06s. I can almost guarantee the C8 version is going to be faster in a straight line which is not even what it's made for. It's made for handling and lap times. And I'm sure there will be a high downforce wing available, which again is for lap times and handling, not for top speed runs since the Z06 is not made to be a straight line car. That's what the ZR1 is for more than the Z06, and always has been. Seems like you don't really understand what the Z06 is OR that there is a much faster C8 coming.
600hp sounds about right with those specs. The 5.2L ford is rated @ 526 I think and about 4 years old now. WIth well over a half decade of developement and .3L additional displacement (and a few hundred more RPM) 600 should be about spot on. I'm guessin they'll go for about 605.
If it's anything like the photos with the side scoop moving towards the bottom and the angles becoming tighter then i might be selling my Porsche 911TTS and moving into this thing.
I’m gonna guess a 2.6 to 2.7 to sixty and a hi to mid 10’s 1/4 if you look a a McLaren 600Lt which is even lighter with 600HP that’s very accurate I’d say. Owning a 19 ZR1 I was hoping to get a Little more HP but might have to wait for the ZR1 option. I’m sure people will modify the C8 Z06 as well. Thanks Justin for the info. Keep up the good work.
It’d be great if they can make it lighter. But I don’t see how they can do it. DOHC will make for maybe 75lbs heavier engine alone. Bigger brakes, wheels, and cooling will add weight too. Going nuts with carbon body panels won’t be a dramatic savings over fiberglass/SMC panels, plus a thinner windshield, and/or lithium battery still won’t get the weight back that will be added on.
I don’t see any reason a DOHC pu need be much, if any, heavier than the LT2. There are a lot of ways to make the car lighter, but how much are they willing to commit to the diet? There are other mid-engine cars out there that are much lighter and that is with turbo’s.
Brian Cooley The LS/LT heads are fairly compact for what they are. Now the heads will need to be much bigger to carry camshafts. And instead of one cam, the engine has four. Instead of one short chain to drive one cam, now you have two long ones. Trust me, it’s a lot of extra weight. Other mid engine cars such as the McLarens are lighter because the body/frame is a carbon fiber monocoque. A luxury Corvette doesn’t get to use at this price point.
Just as a reference folks...the old ZR-1 when it came out for 1990. Sure the bigger rear wheels and wide body added some weight. But the DOHC engine added close to 200 pounds to the weight of the Corvette.
There are a lot of misconceptions, doubts, and concerns about Corvette switching to this new DOHC V8. A modern DOHC configuration does not mean it will be heavier and the advantages are too many to pass up. The engine design and dimensions are very important, as is how much GM/Chevrolet are going to invest. The displacement of the LT/LS engine can easily be increased to 7.0L plus. There are many ways to engineer a DOHC 5.5L engine that will result in its being lighter than the LT1/2. For example, the LT1 weighs in at 465lbs while the Ford Coyote 5.0L weighs 444lbs. The Coyote displacement can not be increased by much. I would also be willing to bet that the LT2 is a few pounds heavier. Just trust that the engineers know what they are doing. I don’t think they would announce a Z06 that is a lighter and more track focused car and put an engine that weighs 75lbs more than the standard lump. This is a very good thing.
It's weird for them to go lower in displacement than the base car for the Z06 model. The 7.0 liter was legendary in the C6 because it had more displacement AND revv'd higher than the base model. It had more of everything and of course sounded insane. We already know based on tuners on UA-cam you can produce a 550rwhp LS7 with a simple heads cam recipe so what can they possibly do to improve on this design? The C6 Z only weighed 3150 pounds too. A highly strung 9000 revs might be exotic but DOES IT PERFORM and is it reliable? So far only Porsche has that recipe figured out in their GT3. I am very skeptical!!!
Always dreamed of owning a 458 Speciale......this will be even better and is much more realistic for me!! Bring it on. About the engine not being 'safe' at 600hp.....Porsche got 600hp out of the 918's engine. Yes, different price bracket but it can be done.
You can make high 600 hp out of a 5.5L flatplane crank . Porsche makes 520hp out of a 4.0L that res to 8800rpm and that HP per liter will make 715hp at 5.5L . So it can be done. That Porsche is a production car .
I’m waiting on the GS/Eray in 2023, the 5.5 is a new production engine and 6.2 has heritage. I’d rather have an AWD hybrid you don’t need 5.5 flat plane crank and higher revs if you have a 6.2 with an electric motor upfront to take you all the way to red line in all 8 FTC gears. What they don’t talk about is the 4 valves to a cylinder doc in the 5.5, it look like a full skirt on that block with separate main caps unlike a similar Caddy engine that will remain nameless. They get to drop the deck height, the cams are on top and not in the middle on the block like the 6.2
I really hope to make the sound like Ferrari, but I don't know how to achieve that without turbo charger. Moreover, it will look amazing if they lower the car little bit to make it looks like super car. It will be freaking awesome. I'm not really happy with current C8 height and it definitely needs to be lowered down
They aren’t going NA. It’s impossible to make the power NA and still pass emissions and mpgs requirements due to regulatory. This is why every other high performance car ferrari porsche etc is now adding turbos, this is due to the epa regulations. It would be cool but it’s not happening. Large displacement vibrations will have issues in NVH standards that I’m curious to see how to get pass that.
Scott Croce I’m thinking 100 hp for $30,000 the base is completely useable power ,was watching a different channel the guy traded his C7-Z06 for the base C8 with no regrets but I only have 425 hp so what do I know.

Yes there’s a lot to come
This Z06 is going to be a beast. I can’t wait to see this in person. All these exotics going for $200k-$500k and Z06 starting at about $85k-90k and after some options I’m estimating about $105k-$115k maybe pushing $120k fully optioned out for this Z06 GM is really changing the game and doing a great job.
100% agree!
Definitely not 120k fully optioned🤣. Very cool car though. I love the gt350 with the flat plane crank. Great choice! Base c8 over 100k
The current c8's are having plenty quality issues. Which should be expected from a cheap supercar.
Matt M That’s what the warranty is for? 😏😂
Matt M me too I’ll get base cand with few bolt ons get around 560whp
In my opinion I think Z06 going to be 700+,. And the reason is because Cadillac is coming out with a black wing CT5 and CT6 and those are going to be 550- 650 horsepower, and I believe that they're saving the 1000 horsepower for the ZR1..
the most ideal for me is Stingay 495 hp grandsport NA flatCrank 600 hp z06 Turbo FlatCrank 750+ hp zr1 hybrid turbo flatcrank 950+
My God, that orange *C8 Z06* with those rims is *drop dead gorgeous.* I, really, hope they do something about that, ugly, rear-end.
A 5.5 liter DOHC Flatplane at 8,500 to 9,000 will clear 600 HP with ease.
I'd bet on 646 hp @ 8200 rpm.
@@tomwomack3167 still not enough to compete with f8 tributo or Mclaren 720s, but enough to compete with the 640hp Porsche 911 Turbo S and the Huracan Evo
It’s stupid because n/a can do much a TTV8 vette will be unstoppable 1 tune and it would be 700-800whp!
This is the Vette I've been waiting for. I'ma get one.
With all the heat soak and over heating issues the C7 Z06 had at the track in not surprised they are going NA
There's a few reasons to go NA but that is definitely one of them.
homerfeltheim12345 they were planning on making the C7 n/a as well but the ohv engine layout wouldn’t meet emissions when making more power than the Lt1.
This is why I cancelled my 911(992) build. The Z06 is going to be a game changer and a LOT less $$$.
Definitely! It's going to be a beast for sure.
Man if it looks anything close to that pictured, oMg. Awesome!
Agreed!!!
Man that Z06 looks like a beast, can't wait to own one. Thanks for info!
I agree! You're quite welcome!
@Sniper .308 mine will be for sale mid 2022 and its loaded lol sitting right now at only 7500 miles 😅 😆
You can do it sniper! I saved up to get my c7 dream car last year. Just had to focus and ignore what other people were saying (like “you shouldn’t get a new car, you should get a used one, why would you want that) cuz its MY DREAM not Yours! Lol
@@hrabb3 💯👍
The only thing that I don’t want about the C8 ZO6 is it to sound like a Ferrari. I love the natural roar of the Corvette V8 engine. Best sounding V8 in the world. Please Please and I mean Please keep the regular sound. That’s the point of competition.
The 458 speciale got 600hp from a 4.5l v8, so it’s still possible to have more than 650hp in a 5.5l.
Good point
Different engine architecture
But its Ferrari, this is GM lol
Chevy will slap a supercharger on that bad boy like they always do and killed the competition.
Can’t wait to start dreaming of owning one.
You and me both!
Start dreaming now and start making your dream reality!
Lots of issues on the ones out now, might find one even cheaper than how cheap rhey already are.
Don’t worry about it. You’ll buy it on release.
I already have started dreaming
I’ll be sending my C8 ZO6 to LMR in Houston👍 Glad to see your channel growing. You deserve it👍
LMR seems to be the place to send it streetspeed717 zr1 is a monster it seems to be Bulletproof
I always like watching your videos. Thank you for being so thorough and also for bringing us the latest news information on the Z06.
Thank you! I appreciate the support!
Can you drop the link to that document.
Josh Beck yes, I agree, I’d like to see the article as well!! This is cool though!
very likely if it is FPC NA it will be a major fail sure it will track great but it will stop there. revving that hi there will be crappy low end TQ, You will have to get to 3-5k rpm to get into the power band, so for most street driving it will suck compared to the C8 Z51, Street Speed 717 is already putting twin turbos on his C8 along with a bunch of others what to you think a car like that would do to the NA FPC other than destroy it. this sounds like you are reading Car and Driver again.
Only if the Z06 really going to look like this.these guy that do the picture be making the car looks better than the car actually looks
Got my 2020 C8, ordering a 2022 Z06 this week, dealer out of Houston is great, he will put my order at top of list and ship have it by Sept.
I have a video of the C8R at the SEMA show! Sounds nothing like a V8 Chevy! But unbelievably KOOL! I think anyone with a heartbeat will love it!
I have a 2021 coming in april of 2021 should I have waited or sell for a bit more or brake even ????
If you really want the car then I think you're all good to go! You'll love the car.
I’ve noticed that the taunted C8 horsepower is what it dyno’d at. If the C8 Z06 dyno’s at 600hp, it’ll be 50hp more than the current C7 Z06. Most i’ve seen dyno’d were around 550hp. Also, even with a rear engines the C8, there is still tire spin and with the Z06 that means a lot of tire spin.
flat plane is the way to go, everyone loves a great sounding sports car
No chance it is just a normally aspirated 5.5 Liter engine. It quite simply won’t have enough torque. There is a limit to how much torque you can get out of 5.5 liters without boost. No production NA engine has ever developed more than 90 lb/ft per liter and most high performance cars are closer to 80 lb/ft per liter.
No chance the Z06 is going to have less torque than the base model stingray. I think it will actually be a hybrid or it will be a boosted engine.
There is no way the CT5-V will have more horsepower and torque than the Z06.
www.yahoo.com/autos/2021-cadillac-ct5-v-blackwing-130000701.html
Although some of those are bought to store them away so they appreciate, this is for the driver !
it should be a crime to buy these cars and not drive them.
If the z51 can hit 60 in 2.7 seconds what could we expect the z06 do it in?
Not quite ready for this zeal 6 but really curious about wondering if they're going to have a grand sport version of the C8
Do you feel they will bring out a Spider version of thew Z06? If so, then do you feel it will launch side by side with the Z06 coup?
It will likely be a staggered launch like it has been for the base C8. I do think a vert option will be available a few months after the coupe.
Any clue as to whether or not we'll get a Convertible version or Zora Z06/07, whatever of this variant???
Is there any concern for the intake and radiation side opening that they don't have a mesh grill to protect them from stones?
What is your thoughts
I thought that as well in the beginning but so far nothing bad to report. The passenger side opening is the only side to have a visible radiator so it's the only one to be concerned with. With that said, the C8.R has mesh on both sides so maybe it is an issue with the higher performance models...
That’s not a leak, I just got the magazine today revealing the zo6 picture and info.
The orange render seems very close in my mind, maybe front fenders being different to prevent less debris into side intakes though.
www.google.com/amp/s/www.motortrend.com/news/2022-chevrolet-corvette-z06-everything-we-know/amp/
I was super excited when I saw this on instagram for the first time only to find out it was totally fan made and not any actual leaked info.
This car its going to be nuts. Flat Crank engine rev up quicker the issue with Flat Crank its vibration thats why euro cars don't go over 4.0 liters. How are they going keep vibration in check with a 5.5 liter? That would be interesting to see.
The for the input
However I think there going to be diff. Layers offered for the Vette
Examples :
C8 : Standard & Z51 Models 490hp
C8 Grand Sport Version (being 600hp Naturally aspirated engine that everyone's talking about)
C8 Z06 / Z07. = 800hp Twin Turbo Setup
C8 ZR1 = 800+hp Possible Elec.
I guess I keep driving my 2010 Camaro RS-SS . I cannot afford a C8 Corvette. I just dream on . God Bless America. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Hi Justin, I like to see a limited run of the C8 Z06 available in manual transmission. Lets hope GM delivers this option for the die heart corvette fans.
100% agree. I'd LOVE it!
Just can't let it go?????
“Save the stick”
When will the ZR1 come out then?
I’m looking forward to the n/a setup if only they offered it in a manual that would be sweet just more fun to drive
Agreed. I'm hoping we get a manual offering of some kind! 🤞🤞
they might as well add vertical doors as an option for people that want lambo doors, I think it would look real cool..the real doors, not that stuff where you open it half way then lift it up
For the record, I’m ok with a flat plane crank V8 making 600hp in this car. It’s going to be insane. Weren’t they having issues with the frames twisting in early test mules?
That was the rumor! I'm assuming they fixed that problem... 🤞🤞
Got my name on list for a Z06 yesterday. Now I wait...
How?
HPO: The C6 Z06 was really the car that started the crazy performance for these Corvettes.
C5 Z06: Am I a joke to you?
🤣🤣🤣 Definitely not a joke, I'm actively trying to find a C5 Z06! I just think the C6 Z06 took it to another level.
If my dream of getting a C8 Z06 falls Thru for some reason, I will probably add the C6 Z06 to the collection. Its Chevrolet's equivalent to the Shelby Cobra. No frills, raw power, all sports car. Period. A timeless auto...
I want to know more about the active aero...you are my only stop for C8 info, rock on baby!
I agree. It's a tough situation right now. Stay safe!
I'm ready for this Z06 can't wait...
Same here! It's going to be a beast!
I have a video out showing one of the wheel designs. Full carbon fiber wheel. Could be interesting for sure!
Forgot about that! Just went back and looked at the video. Those will probably look good, I’ve always liked the 5-spoke design on wheels.
The ZR1 (if they call it that, maybe it'll be Zora) will have twin turbos. Then there's the rumored halo hybrid version. You'll get your forced induction... and the mighty price tag to go with it.
You are a 100% correct I will hate the sound of that flat plane crank motor!
Hopefully the c8z07 rear tires sit higher under the rear so it looks more aggressive.
Very nice looking !!! But power wise it would make me hold off until they step up there game in that department !!
Great info thanks Justin!!
You're quite welcome! Thank you for watching!
Pricing them to the point that only certain people can afford. I bought a new z06 in 2003 and it listed for 52k and got it for 46k. Basically in 17 years they have almost tripled in price - crazy.
The first orange one is something👍. Gotta start stacking cash.
You and me both!
I don't think they could change the price legally. If you place the order at "an agreed price" the vendor is held to that price
A great video! Makes the case for holding onto a Great C7 until 2022!
Thanks, Steve!
I have a C8, but to replace it I'm waiting for the hybrid.
Nice! Can’t wait for your video on the ZR1 in a few years. If the Z06 is 85-90k, maybe the ZR1 will be around 120-125k
Heck yes! I can't wait to see on in person!
Excellent information Justin!! That’s the Z06 I’m waiting for!!!!!
Thank you! I can't wait to see this thing on the roads!
Are any variants of the C8 all wheel drive?
Supposedly there is a hybrid option coming soon that will be AWD.
Also, I am super excited to see this have an engine that is like a Ferrari.
Very likely a 2022 at this point!
Personally, I think $85K may be a little optimistic, but🤞🏻not complaining!
Justin probably 2023
@@gotime1236 no way that absolutely too far away
Prices are starting to go up and hit above 100k mark. The whole appeal of this was was that it looked like a super car, he had enough power to possibly compete with a super car, but was marketed and advertised as starting at 60k. This reminds of the Nissian, where they started off at below 100k and now have claimed up to 200k for certain models. And the entry model at over 100k
I hope this financial crisis doesn't wreck the sales for the C8 and force execs to halt development and production of it. GM has made a bold move with a ton of $ put into development. And they deserve to have it a sales success as they really delivered a great product.
I don't think so, they've invested too much to halt it.
Thanks for info. I remember how on-point you were about the c8 StingRay.
Thank you. I try to weed out the stuff I think sounds like straight rumors but some stuff you can't ignore.
Agreed
TREMEC TR-9070 DCT will probably be the transmission of choice due to its ability of a 9000 rpm input from the engine.
Great C8 Z06 update you & family stay health buddy. Thanks again for your time thumbs up.
Thank you. Stay safe my friend!
I'm in line, with only 10 ahead of me, to order a C8 Z06 Z07 package.
I'm #2 at my dealership again. 😁👍
Im # 6 on Chevy Dude's list. Trade ya HBO?! Lol. Hey, I took a shot...
Craaaap...I'm usually the guy who buys the base vette...but this time since i can't get one, I may just have to go this route!
This thing is going to be a beast!
Pretty sure I saw that black C8 you were driving last week in person. Looks sharp.
Awesome! Where did you see it?
@@HorsePowerObsessed Classic Coachworks in Ft Washington. I work just down the road from there in Flourtown.
I hope that gray car in the first few minutes doesn’t have a huge scratch on the drivers door.
Cost will make it tough. It’s hard when you are talking 85k. If it were 200k weight savings would be easier
Either way it’s worth the wait!
Agreed!
They get to drop the deck height, the cams are on top and not in the middle on the block like the 6.2
FTC in the text should have been DCT, dammed spell check makes up words and sentences of it’s own!
Where did you see this list?
I really hope to make the sound like Ferrari, but I don't know how to achieve that without turbo charger. Moreover, it will look amazing if they lower the car little bit to make it looks like super car. It will be freaking awesome. I'm not really happy with current C8 height and it definitely needs to be lowered down
The Ferrari sound gets ruined by turbos. You want that natural aspiration to make the sound.
And lowering it can easily be done with aftermarket mods.
They can keep it. I will keep my C7 Zo7
So the Z06 is going to be way quicker the base model right?
I think that goes without saying. Lol
Absolutely! 600+ horsepower with a possibility of less weight.
Myron Carheel at 2.8 to 60 and 10.xx 1/4 mile and194 top speed you must live next to the autobahn wanting faster
Scott Croce I’m thinking 100 hp for $30,000 the base is completely useable power ,was watching a different channel the guy traded his C7-Z06 for the base C8 with no regrets but I only have 425 hp so what do I know.
