That happened to me when MK7 came out I was so used to playing with Wii note and nunchuck. Now when I play MKWii I just use the GameCube controller, same with MK8 Deluxe.
When I was a kid my mother smashed my DS because I was playing it too much. But the DS still worked, it was only the top screen which was smashed (all the buttons and the bottom screen worked perfectly still), but Mario Kart DS was one of the only games I could still play without the top screen. no, when I was like 7 I was playing balloon battle, and I meant to press start so I could pause, but I accidentally pressed select, so from then on I never blew into my mic.

I discovered a pretty funny glitch in Balloon Battle last year. It works best on the hard setting, since CPU's are more aggressive. Select the Twilight House stage and station yourself at one of the four protruding ledges found at the four corners of the stage. Position your kart as close as you can to one of the two corners of this ledge, to the point where you're almost about to fall off. StupidMarioBros501 I think it isn't that unfortunate, the select method is very slow. Ever since I discovered the blowing method I haven't touched select during any balloon battle anymore. I don't mind blowing at all, and it the balloons get filled extremely fast
Dave Van Tol I kinda have to use the select button though because for some reason the blowing method doesn't work well with my 3DS. Funny thing is, my mic works fine with every other game except MKDS. Maybe I'm not blowing into the mic the right way for MKDS or something lol.
Blue shells strike a kart-length or so in front of you--the expectation being that you will drive into the explosion. But if you fly through the air facing sideways, the blue shell will miss you completely. The traditional technique to dodge them (charge an MT, then at the right moment, release it and hop the same direction) works because you're facing sideways at just the right moment. Knowing this, you can dodge blue shells in many more situations than you might otherwise think, such as any minor bump in the track or jumps. 4:25 no you're absolutely wrong, Mario Kart Super Circuit was the first Mario Kart game to introduce retro tracks (proof: launch the game (if you have it) and you will see that there is the original SNES Rainbow Road).
The item stat was used for time trials. If you got a full item stat, you get 3 mushrooms. If you have a weak item stat, you only get two or one mushroom
One interesting thing I noticed on this game when I was a kid is that there was/is always a CPU that would dominate a race, and so every time I saw a bowser on the plane cart, I would push them off the side of Delfino square and then just watch Bowser catch up with everyone after having him collisioned with the side rails on that course. How I even noticed this as an 8 year old kid was by the main screen watching the cpus race and Mario was always the one to be the dominating CPU, so I correlated that with the cpus that would do the best during my races and decided to mess with the cpus, just to watch them catch up.
Dude, I can relate to the 1st one so much. This is exactly what happened to me when I first played Mario Kart Wii. I was so annoyed that the CPUs kept getting "out of nowhere" boosts, so I just had to look it up online XD
ONE thing I noticed was that all the race courses in the Shell Cup were the first courses of their respective Mario Kart titles overall (Except for Moo Moo Farm. The first course in that one was Luigi Raceway).
I remember bring this game onto the bus and playing with 3 of my friends, and just obliterating them in any way i could, using the slowest kart, fastest kart, same kart as them, using my own personal "shortcuts". Thats was great.
I know this is late but if you hop (R) after you lauched in the air you can jump higher. Also if you hop when you land you fly half the height then you did before.
Simple Adjustment, all you do is press/hold select, so easy a 3 year old could do it, I know this 3 year old found out about it til he was 11, but all you do is hold the damn button & the balloons will blow, NO MICROPHONE!
The GBA version (Super Circuit)is the one I recall with retro tracks having the snes lineup in it as a secret. You had to finish a Grand Prix with a total score of 100 coins exactly. I remember when I discovered this by accident cause I played the game without a guide , when I finally got to read a guide a whole lot years later I had more shortcuts than what the guide had Edit: Saw your comments about retro tracks, still Super circuit was only the third game and it was so cool that it included all those additional tracks to mess around with!
I don't know If someone said this already but Wario is the only character who stops his winning animation on the battle modes and I think this is random because sometimes the game stops the animation and other times, It doesn't stop
4:49 i see what you’re saying. usually the last course in the last ever cup of mariokart is scary and eerie (somewhat) but instead yoshi circuit is a happy, wholesome course.
Holding the button down for rocket start was also in Super Mario Kart, and halfway in 64 and Super Circuit where you hold just before the race starts. In Time Trials, you can start with one, two, or three mushrooms. I think it depends on your kart's item stat, but i'm not 100% sure. DS, along with WII, doesn't have a rainbow road for retro. It's easy to assume that each character has 3 karts, but later you unlock access to 7 karts per character before unlocking access to all combinations. The fact that Nintendo gave characters access to an extra 4 specific karts belonging to other characters makes me wonder why... The blooper inks a lot sooner than in other titles. Some of the karts the characters have seem odd. Waluigi has an excavator, but he never appeared in any construction-type games. Bowser has a plane which he's never used in any other game, and Dry Bones has a tank. Maybe Nintendo was intending to use these for some game concepts? Could Waluigi have been a construction worker at some point?
My brother and I owned the Nintendo DS with Mario Kart. We would play battle mode on local play and one night he got mad and shook the DS so violently that the top part fell off. 😂 I also owned 5 Mario Kart DS games because I kept on losing them.
The best way to avoid being hit by the blue shell is to let your other opponent go past, once they get hit on the Rainbow Road track, nudge them off the track (Make sure you're Bowser and knock Yoshi off}
When you're 8 years old sometimes you had to make sacrifices to get new games. Don't worry though, I eventually rebought the game! Just had to sell it at the time because I wasn't playing it anymore and so I can experience new games!
In races, the CPU has a " rubber band" effect where if your very far into the race, the CPU will get a speed increase to make the race a challenge & when the CPU is in the lead, they slow down so it's fair.
The no flames and cpu damage animations were due to cartridge limitation, I mean it was a original ds title the ds wan't built for lots of 3d polygons and animations in use which is why cpus have a lower sprite count for the character model
JigsawFlex ya man he makes very entertaining videos and the best quotes. I’ll never stop laughing when I hear BAAAM SHOCKDOGE and I just subbed to your channel your awesome man
Concerning the blowing for the balloon, the secret was not to blow in the microphone like you were trying to blow out a bonfire. A soft blow that can be felt on the hand but barely heard was the way to do it. It was significantly faster than holding the select button. Same goes for that infuriating balloon flight minigame with Yoshi in New Super Mario Bros.
Is it weird that I already knew the majority of the facts before this video. In fact I got do triggered that they removed the lighting jungle when I would play as a kid cause I really liked it
I've beaten MKDS all the way through and when I say all the way through, I mean ALL THE WAY THROUGH - 3 stars on every cup, every mission, beaten all dev ghosts in Time Trial mode, played like 300 games in battle mode (mostly by myself :P) and discovered some glitches and shortcuts all to myself. If there's something in this video I don't know about I'm gonna be extremely ashamed of myself. Edit : Happily for me I knew all of the points but I'd like to add some points : the red shells wrapping around the kart is TOTAL BULLCRAP (and I won't even mention it actually hits THE SENDER 30% of the time), the reason why NPCs go really fast at times is because the DS didn't have the hardware capacity of making the "better" NPCs actually drive better than the "worse" NPCs, so they decided to simply make them faster than they're used to, and for someone who spent 2 years of their life hardcore trying to get 3 stars on every cup, I can definitely say having 5 blue shells thrown my way in 1 race - yes, a single race - kiiiinda disproves the fact NPCs get bad items.... just saying.

Okay so I know this video is old and all but Mario will either say "Woohoo!" or "Here we go!" on the Nintendo logo depending on what version of the game your playing on.
Unmeltable Dude I did not know that, thanks for letting me know!
That's not true, it only depends if you play on the original phat DS or the later models.
No it’s based on if you unlocked all the characters or not
When I was younger I always wondered why the robot from my dads Nintendo collection was in my Mario kart

@@SuperDuperJamer Appreciate it! Thanks for watching and checking this out, dude!
@Lucid _2_Win Glad it brought back great memories!
Oh the nostalgia ^^ i use to play Mario kart DS so much with my friend at school .... Daisy was my main and Wario my boyfriend main ^^
@@JigsawFlex So if you're at balloon battle and Blow in the mic. the balloons blow up too
This popped into my recommendation again 🙌 video still holds up super well 👏👏👏
Kevintendo DUDE AWESOME. Thanks haha. Wish I had the time right now to produce more content like this. Hopefully I can soon! But yeah thanks for stopping by LOL.
@@JigsawFlex I know man.. someday we'll be able to have a team of people putting in the work and editing our videos so we can put out content like this every week!! Always glad to support :) I honestly loved the boss battles so much and custom emblems! Probs my 2 favorite things about DS other than having the minimap which helped whenever you got inked! So convenient!!
i got light headed playing balloon battle at least twice :I
Really? How come??
blowing into the mic
@@cornballcantaim Ahh. Yeah I remember blowing as hard as you can until realizing it was better to do it softer lol.
Well, press select then
4:25 no you're absolutely wrong, Mario Kart Super Circuit was the first Mario Kart game to introduce retro tracks (proof: launch the game (if you have it) and you will see that there is the original SNES Rainbow Road).
You don't understand how much respect I have for you for not going over 10:00 when you had the chance :)
Solely made this video for fun! Didn't ever expect this to blow up LOL.
Dude, I can relate to the 1st one so much. This is exactly what happened to me when I first played Mario Kart Wii. I was so annoyed that the CPUs kept getting "out of nowhere" boosts, so I just had to look it up online XD
5:37 TWD98!
ONE thing I noticed was that all the race courses in the Shell Cup were the first courses of their respective Mario Kart titles overall (Except for Moo Moo Farm. The first course in that one was Luigi Raceway).
Aah, such a memories when this game was first released. It was so fun to play.
Btchcrank Still is!!
@@JigsawFlex Sure but when it was released it was easier play it with anyone and online services was still on.
this video was really original and fun to watch. You’ve earned yourself a subscriber. Keep it up 😁
Nathan Mee Thank you so much!!
You watch Troy cuz BAM SHOCK DODGE
x Shockr x Yeah I’ve been so addicted to Mario Kart lately, so of course Troy is one of the top UA-camrs I watch right now haha.
JigsawFlex yeah he’s a preety cool guy I’ve been watching him for years
I remember bring this game onto the bus and playing with 3 of my friends, and just obliterating them in any way i could, using the slowest kart, fastest kart, same kart as them, using my own personal "shortcuts". Thats was great.
I know this is late but if you hop (R) after you lauched in the air you can jump higher. Also if you hop when you land you fly half the height then you did before.
Star Aiden I’ve actually noticed this! But I surprisingly didn’t ever think about covering it for this video... great observation sir!
Awesome video man! Just found your channel, thought it was quite similar to Space Chicken’s haha. Keep up the great content, subbed!
Adityax26 Never heard of him till now! Thanks for watching, and thanks for the support!
Item also determines how many mushrooms you get in Time Trials, so stuff like Egg 1 gets 1, but R.O.B LGS gets 3.
Ze Memerr who dafug is rob? I only know of the secret character called... Dry bones
Not Claptrap I'm pretty sure you're meant to win every cup.
I unlocked him years and years ago so I'm not sure.
0:30 You have recognized him. You have earned my respect, Fellow Dry bones Fan.
Wow you can just PRESS A SINGAL BUTTON TO INFLATE BALLONS AND I HATE BLOWING IN THAT STUPID MIC Thank you for saving my life...
How did you just know about this right now
Simple Adjustment, all you do is press/hold select, so easy a 3 year old could do it, I know this 3 year old found out about it til he was 11, but all you do is hold the damn button & the balloons will blow, NO MICROPHONE!
You guys ready?
Spanish Yoshi:YO SHI
The GBA version (Super Circuit)is the one I recall with retro tracks having the snes lineup in it as a secret. You had to finish a Grand Prix with a total score of 100 coins exactly. I remember when I discovered this by accident cause I played the game without a guide , when I finally got to read a guide a whole lot years later I had more shortcuts than what the guide had
Edit: Saw your comments about retro tracks, still Super circuit was only the third game and it was so cool that it included all those additional tracks to mess around with!
justmetal227 Definitely! I do really wish it had the actual SNES assets tho! I just unlocked all the courses last year on 150cc, took a while haha.
I played that games 5 years straight from 2001 to 06
I remember MarioKart DS. When I was little, I used to play all the time with my cousins.
(1/30/19)
0:35 Perfect gameplay😂😂
Leader 748282918 you can tell that I just did that mission just to get b roll lmao.
This is such a good video and brings back my childhood... thank you!!
Fan 215 Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed. :)
5:52 Nitendo DS: Turn Off Your Engine Switch!
Nitendo Switch: Me?
Nitendo DS: No, No, No, No,
I don't know If someone said this already but Wario is the only character who stops his winning animation on the battle modes and I think this is random because sometimes the game stops the animation and other times, It doesn't stop
This game is my childhood
It's crazy how old this game is now.
Ikr it’s my childhood as well as my cousins too...........
4:49 i see what you’re saying. usually the last course in the last ever cup of mariokart is scary and eerie (somewhat) but instead yoshi circuit is a happy, wholesome course.
Wicked Facts!!
I also owned 5 Mario Kart DS games because I kept on losing them.
Hey,
This was a good video. You're a good creator.
Appreciate it!
The best way to avoid being hit by the blue shell is to let your other opponent go past, once they get hit on the Rainbow Road track, nudge them off the track (Make sure you're Bowser and knock Yoshi off}
0:20 *i spot luigi's mansion. you are DEFINITELY my least favorite human now.*
When you're 8 years old sometimes you had to make sacrifices to get new games. Don't worry though, I eventually rebought the game! Just had to sell it at the time because I wasn't playing it anymore and so I can experience new games!
@@JigsawFlex new super Mario bros 1 vs 1 is the funniest gaming experience I ever had. This game was as good as Mario kart ds.
In races, the CPU has a " rubber band" effect where if your very far into the race, the CPU will get a speed increase to make the race a challenge & when the CPU is in the lead, they slow down so it's fair.
“The lightning theme”
~JigsawFlex 2018
I didn't know what to call it LOL
The no flames and cpu damage animations were due to cartridge limitation, I mean it was a original ds title the ds wan't built for lots of 3d polygons and animations in use which is why cpus have a lower sprite count for the character model
I have Mario kartDS Still.. 👍👏Thx to me! I play it nearly all day.
Good to hear! Played a lot before making this video and played more after but I haven’t recently... maybe I’ll pay a visit again soon!
If you get far enough ahead, the rubber banding stops and they just let you go do great laps. It stops the blue shells for that race.
Jigsaw: Nintendo, what drugs were you on when you made the ROB LGS?
Nintendo: Yes
Great video. Half of these I never really peeped out in middle school and you earned yourself another sub

5:36 I like how he cut off right before Yoshi falls
3:57 NO. WAY.
Bretaigne WAY.
I still love this game so much and enjoyed this video! Thank you for it!
