    The biggest issue with the LX was what they werent sealed against dust, so when the dust gets onto the sensor, it's basically stuck.

    • @michaeld5888
      @michaeld5888 6 місяців тому +2

      You think they could just put in a sensor shaker and a little replaceable hatch with a sticky interior in the base to soak up the dust. Or possibly an access port to the sensor. It does not seem an immensely technical problem. The problem is the makers just seemed to think with compacts once sold they could be forgotten hence few firmware upgrades. This concept did not allow for the inflated prices now charged for such disposal items. Surprising that this remake of an old design at an inflated price is such a complete surprise to the experts. So many people posted after using these particular LX100 cameras vowing never to buy a fixed lens camera again. Nice enough camera if you can afford the risk of throwing them away after a few years.

      @@michaeld5888 If you know how to disassemble it and clean it which there are guide for now then you can maintain it for a while. My LX100 for instance has zoom error turns out it was grit and dust that got into the screw assembly that zooms in the lens and back that can be an issue on its own already if camera feels resistance on its lens while zooming it will give that error instantly. for me dust thankfully isn't on the sensor so its clean I keep mine in a sealed bag so dust can't build up like that.

      @@smashpop I'm pushing 60. I guess it's a middle life thing, you know, splashing out on a fancy car or whatever when a damaged old banger that still roadworthy (yes, I do have one of those!) would suffice. lol! I used to own an M6, but it was so damn expensive to get new lenses back in the early 1990's that I sold it in favour of the new digital Canons that were arriving on the market. But I think I also sold the M6 because being a Leica, it had no fancy stuff on it, no bells and whistles etc, and just like the D-Lux 8 you are forced only to do one thing and that's take photographs. This is what I love so much about my old GR (D IV), that it's a camera with a fixed focal length, and you only have one choice, to take pictures. No excuses. You cannot dream of anything else once you get a Leica. AND you must justify that price, by just getting on with it and take pictures. I hope you get where I'm trying to go with this argument! It's art and a sort of spiritual Zen, where you have no choice but to explore the world and press that shutter button.

      I think my sony rx100va beats the GRIII any day with a built in viewfinder and zoom capability. True it cannot compare to GRIII “street photography” shooting style. And the sensor is smaller, but all around it is a lot more fun to use than the GRIII. GRIII is overrated.
      As an owner with 2 full frame cameras. I am happy to be able to have a small camera as my daily driver. This D Lux 8 seems like a step upgrade from my rx100v5a.
      I was thinking about the Q2 or Q3. But they are still quite big and heavy. In this case since image quality is not the main focus here. Portability and ease of use are main reasons for me to buy the D Lux 8

    The ‘core or heart’ (ie MFT sensor and Leica lens combination) are the same as Panasonic LUMIX LX100M2! Only differences are the ‘cosmetic’ (including the monitor, controls and EVF) look changes in line with the Leica Q range of cameras.
    I have the LX100M2 and get exceptional usability and really good quality images!
    However, if you’re a Leica fan, as I am, and if I was in the market for a EDC (Every Day Carry) camera with quality- I would certainly buy this camera with added ‘Street Creditability’ of the Red Dot!

      I like push on-off buttons in pocketable cameras because it prevents accidental activation, though I certainly wouldn't call the DLux 8 pocketable. For whatever reason the optics don't cover the full M43 sensor, which I think is reasonable given how compact it is.

You would have expected more technical advances, but the new features are hardly worth mentioning. Instead of real improvements, it seems as if a few steps have been taken backwards. Too bad, I had hoped for a real upgrade! And I can't see paying €600 more for it. You'd be better off looking for a Lumix 100 II. It can do the same. But have you owned a Ricoh? I've owned three GR's and two of them (both the newer GR, not GRD models) were so unbelievably unreliable. Failing lenses. Dust. Poor back wheel, GR3 OS always crashing etc. etc. Urghh! My 12 year old GRD4, still my favourite, is a workhorse, but the sensor in it is slowly dying. Although both Ricoh and Leica are metal, the Leica just looks more sturdy than anything made recently by Ricoh. Ricoh and Fuji are also made in China. And lastly at least on the Leica, and just like the older GR's you get 4:3. On the GR III you're stuck with 3:2 and 1:1. Nothing else. And why crop if you have a zoom? With Ricoh you're stuck with a fixed 28mm or 40mm equivalent. So if you want both focal lengths, it actually works out way more expensive than the Leica!

The same exact camera as the previous one allover again (and that was already a clone to start with) just in a new box and with new menus doesn't cut it, sorry. This is almost 10 year old tech needing far more than new makeup to justify a new model name or this kind of cost. I have a Q3, upgaded from an original Q and I can firmly say that the 3 generations have been palpable upgrades and paths forward. The D-Lux 8 is plain non-sense just to have something to release in this new idiotic and stupid wave and hype of retro compact cameras. And made in China DOES MATTER for something supposedly of this category and status. Leica should have done much better and had plenty of time to do so. No excuses.

    So its just an old Lumix LX100 ii with a Leica price tag. Advertising this camera without talking about that is weak and makes me not want to watch anymore.
    This camera is not better than a Ricoh GR or a Fuji.
    Shame.

    How you can describe the EVF as high res when it's a 2.4m dot screen straight outta 2015 is a joke
