Hell yeah! 10 months ago I did my very first extreme being ex6 when 6.4 released. Half a year later I have cleared the savage tier and TEA and just recently did UWU. Going for TOP soon with the friends I have made along the way since then. Great video! Really reminded me of what I have learned, achieved and memories created these months. Highly encourage anyone to try. Ultimates are hella fun!
As far as statics are concerned, clear, defined expectations that everyone in the group explicitly agrees to are the secret sauce to not having a group implode into itself. These include the atmosphere that is expected (serious, casual), how people handle mistakes and discussing them, the expected timeframe to complete the fight if any, punctuality, raiding hours, studying, etc. Everyone in the group needs to know all of those and agree to them. If someone starts saying things like "I guess, but..." you should genuinely consider replacing them. A half-hearted agreement is a frustration bomb waiting to happen.
100% agree, this is how I've handled all statics I've had recently, even if its with friends. The expectations are set and we're locked in for actual prog sessions, anyone who let the group down/generally clearly didn't want to be there was replaced for other content. It's rough but its too big of a time investment to not put the rules in place.
Once I saw Curtana Ultima and Holy Shield Ultima, I wanted it so bad. I didn't know what ultimates were at the time thinking "oh I can just unsync that right?" No... no I could not. I mentioned it to a buddy who at the time was doing clears so he could get every available ultima weapon, and he asked me "want to do the fight? I'll help you learn the mechs and we can prog it together!" (he already knew the fight, so I knew he'd be a great resource to help me with my clear) I started first as my main Paladin because I wanted to clear the fight with the job I wanted to get the weapon for. Quite a few pulls in with garuda I thought that I was just too overwhelmed with tanking the fight and switched to my Main DPS Job Machinist. I had a much more fun time progging with my friend and enjoyed playing MCH for the fight. We progged the fight off and on for 3 months (was in college at the time so I didn't have lots of spare time to play). Then in December of last year we were doing Ultima Weapon enrage cleanups to clear and I won't forget it... the boss was almost dead all my ogcds were on cooldown but drill was almost back, and I was spamming my gun combo watching the health bar tick down slowly. Ultima began casting enrage and my heart was beating a mile a minute. 6%, 5%, 4%, Ultima started his enrage swallowing one of our healers, 3% there went the other healer, OT didn't have stance on so he was next to go, 2% RDM gets swallowed, 1% I was 3rd on aggro so one of our melee's got swallowed, 0.5% I could feel myself about to be dragged into ultima to be obliterated. I was spamming buttons pressing them so hard that you could hear me mashing my keyboard from down the hall. Drill comes off cooldown and that was the last weaponskill I got off before I got sucked in, 0.1%, melee hits the final blow just before I was about to be obliterated, my heart beating super fast hands and fingers numb, and me and my buddy in our discord call were cheering and having a good time. He mentioned that he didn't think we'd get a clear that night so I was super excited that we did. Went to Rhalgr's Reach and picked up my Curtana Ultima and Holy Shield Ultima. I rode that high for a few days. After a week or two I went back in for a reclear, and after many pf's and a week of trying I got my reclear and I picked up the gun for my class that I cleared with, the Ferdinand Ultima. I have yet to go back and get a clear on Paladin as MT, but in the meantime I'm getting my High-End Tanking fix by doing the current Savage Tier (Arcadion M1 - M4 Savages) as a Main Tank. I've Cleared both M1S and M2S so far, and am going for a clear on M3S (Gotten to Enrage, just gotta get that fabled golden pf and clear). One of these days I'll go back and properly earn my Ultima Sword and Shield, but that's for another time. I may have embellished the first clear story a bit, but I remember it being a nail-biter xD Edit: Punctuation
Congrats on the clears! Never touched an Ultimate, but this gives me hope. Great takes and a good insight on what a healthy mindset looks like. Much appreciated.
Saw this video. I recently unlocked UwU yesterday. Met and talked to a lot of people that told me I can do it. Even though I just started studying I would love to go into the raid yet I’m catching some cold feet. Thank you for the reassurance that anybody can do the raid with time and effort. I would love to hear about other people’s experiences and even strive to complete every raid down the line. 🙏🏽
some players tend to put ultimates on a pedestal when they are really not that bad if you're doing them using guides and not blind. the hardest thing about ultimates is finding people to play with and investing time into clearing(these raids can take up to 20 minutes). dps checks are easy and shouldn't be an issue nowdays if you're pressing buttons, all mechanics give you enough time to react to them, mits and heals have spreadsheets nowadays for the 5 current ultimate's. my message to all the players who want to get into ultimates but are anxious is, don't be afraid to go to pf, when you are in a practice pf no one is going to get mad if you fuck up. people fuck up on reclears regularly and no one says shit most of the time so go fuck up until you get the clear.
Grear video. Especially the mindset section. You ultimately drive your own prog. I started my ultimate experience with tea, as im a gunbreaker main, and tea was also a long term goal from the start since i started playing ff14. After 2 months of prog, i finally got my clear and a few reclears. I moved on to uwu afterwards and got my clear todah in only 18 days. Love how ultimate content pushes you to optimize and show a deep understanding of your role and mechanics, while demanding quick and tight movement. I'm headed to ucob next. Im unsure whether i'll have time to complete it by the time dawn trail comes out, but i'm hoping! once im done with all 3 legacy ultimates, im excited to try dsr as i've heard so many good things about it. I may or may not touch top though since i've heard lots of negatives about it.
You highlighted reasons why I love Ultimates too, just so satisfying on such a deep level to feel that prog kick and then the excitement of hitting the clear! On DSR and TOP; DSR is easily, without a doubt the best fight in the game. So few negatives besides maybe a bit of bloat around eyes phase but that's always going to come with a "solved puzzle" mechanic - but other than that its just such a thrill all the way through. TOP is a hard one to touch on - definitely lots of moment of frustration because it has mechanics where you have to "STAND IN THIS SPOT WITH A TINY MARGIN OF ERROR" like Party Synergy or Monitors that takes a lot of patience to get through, and then phase 5 is an absolute nightmare to prog if you dont use external sims like xivsim (which I highly recommend), at the end though I want to complete every Ultimate in the future and had the same mindset before I cleared all the current ones, so it was definitely worth it for me
Ultimate's are super cool. Idk if I will ever do them, personally, but kudos to those that do. Hardest content in the game, and they do it for the fun of it with a shiny stick being the cherry on top. There's only ONE way I would ever do one, and that's if the glamour for a job I'm working on demands it. For example: I made Stardust Rod Nexus and stopped advancing the relic solely because I got to where I wanted with it. I have no desire for the ultimate version of it, and that rod is my forever black mage weapon. If I'm making a glamour for a job, and I see an ultimate being THE perfect weapon for said glamour, then I will consider going for it. Time is, and always will be, the most important factor/hurdle though, and I generally don't have a lot of it - which is a big factor against trying it.
I can remember tearing up as the MNK sent the LB3 in DSR. It was 5 months of broken static and misery in PF. Then it was over and I still love that axe more than anything in the game.
When I finished P12S first time, I had the stray intrusive thought "Now all that's left is Ultimates" and I've been struggling to supress those urges. I played Black Mage in Anabaseios, and continue to main it ever since. If I'm going to jump into Ultimate, it'll be with that class. I even checked the Omega weapon, and found that it's actually pretty cool looking, which didn't help. I think it'd be a good flex if I was able to clear the hardest Ultimate on the hardest class as my first one, but then I came up with a better idea. I love the Eden raid series, but I've never done them in Savage. So I'm going to try and find a group to fresh prog through the entire Eden series, hopefully finishing E12S before 7.1 so I can do FRU as soon as possible.
Started doing UWU after Zeromus ex back in Dec 23'. It was hard, and I struggled with fight (20%) and PF (80%). After playing it inconsistently for like 2 months I started playing it less and less. Stopped at what they say is biggest wall of the fight - Titan Gaols, yea.. So why am I writing this, just to say thank you. You reignited something inside me and I'm going to continue my journey to beat Ultima and get that damn blue shiny. It will be hard, I will die a lot but I'm gonna get it. As for the other ulti, honestly - not sure, but we'll see :) Sorry for long ramblings lol Cheers ryai and keep those videos coming (enjoyed your uwu weap tier list btw)
I'm glad you're going to get back into it, it'll be worth it trust me. Titan Goals is definitely one of the biggest walls in UWU to get past, what I'd recommend is STUDYING HARD for Ultimate, learn Predation and Annihilation and then just join a predation party if you're confident you can do gaols most of the time. It was the only way I could get past parties that would wipe before/on gaols consistently.
@@ryaiart Thanks for the advice! I'm gonna try this out, I enjoy learning these fights like big puzzles, it's just people that sometimes make things hard haha, but it's ok.
Very inspiring video! As a paladin sprout making my way through this game for the first time, I can't wait for the chance to try this content. Definitely hoping to make like minded friends along the way rather than randoms but regardless I've got at least another 500hrs of play time to go before I'm ready for this stuff. Also thanks for the server link, insanly helpful resource
great video mate! 100% true for the pf experience, I'm losing my mind trying to clear TOP on pf and its not even funny anymore. The randomness of teammates you'll be getting, the long wait time, the not even close to the prog point after waiting for such a long time really makes you question why are you doing this to begin with while you can do so many other thing that can make you actually progress in life. At least TOP PF makes me realize i can do so much more in life rather than dealing with PF TOP...
100% agree, pf is honeslty not that bad, well at least for ucob which is the one im doing rn. Literally anyone can do it, just need effort, time and the right mentality ! The hardest part is waiting for a party in pf for 1 hour then disbanding 30 min later LOL
The only problem with UwU, is doing Titan in PF. People cannot do jails. I progged through the fight in 5 weeks. 3 and a half were spent on Titan because I could not find a good group for it. Ifrit and Garuda were down in like 3 days, Ultimat took about a week. But Titan is the roadblock
i cleared uwu not too long ago after 3 months of prog. hearing ppl actually clear that fight within as little as 1 week kinda proves to me that other people are just made of different stuff. saying everyone can clear ultimates is less nuanced a take than not everyone can clear ultimates imo. Knowing how much of a jump dsr and top are from uwu, and knowing that uwu allready got me to my limits tells me that i wont be able to do those fights at any point. I like the positive message in this video, encouraging people to go for what they want, but i ultimately disagree
Ive been a little afk from pf for a few weeks playing other games but im sure there are still parties, we are in that awkward pre-expansion mode where a lot of people are stopping til then though
@@ryaiart I see what you mean, there are quite a few groups for DSR but I'm progging TEA with a static and I wanted to also prog more in PF for fun (and to clear faster by dumping time). We have like 3 TEA PFs on peak hours on weekends... I've sat on the same party waiting for 12 hours waiting to fill without any luck... But anyways maybe after the next Savage tier is on another lull and before everyone quits waiting for patch lol.
Honestly I cleared uwu but the fact that it’s so hard to find a party for any ultimates that is good is abysmally tiring. And the party takes forever to fill out.
I think a tiger could beat a crocodile in a fight. I just think those claws would be so nasty on a croc's skin. I liked hearing your thoughts! I want to work up to doing UWU once I sub to the game (I'm in free trial right still). It looks fun to participate in those fights.
A whole lot of people in this game can't do Extremes, much less Savage. Raiding is not for everyone, specially Ultimates. One can make an argument that if you put in the time and effort to get there you can do it... No, that doesn't work for everyone.
ah nice someone else who feels that once you learn TEA its a bit less annoying upfront, just from how scripted it is haha the amount of wipes to ppl asleep at the wheel in cob is just......
I love cob but holy moly if you get a party that cant get to/past heavensfall consistently it definitely is rough. TEA, for a similar thing (as you're well aware) becomes such smooth sailing if everyone can do wormhole so after LL/BJCC it just feels a lot more chill
Iv got better things to waste my time on, ultimates can be done by anyone, all you've got to do is keep practicing, I know terrible players flaunting titles and as a result, I have no respect for the content, also, no one does them blind, using a guide is not a true ultimate experience, you by pass the hardest part of the content, anyone can press buttons

The hardest part for me is finding a group 😅
Would definitely recommend doing UwU in PF to get started if you're struggling to find a group!
@@ryaiart I will try that, thanks
