    Thanks for the video. I have super curly hair and it dreaded itself basically. The only maintenance I did was pulling them apart when they started to form together. And washing them. That being said I have a lot of loose hair that needs to be cleaned up. I have to get a set of hooks because my dreads are not uniform in the slightest which is the way I like it. What I should do is go to a professional for maintenance.

    ***** I was wondering on your crochet hook. I've got two kinds here at home. Haven't used them yet. I've got the opened kind of hook and the other is latch kind. Where it open and closes as it goes through something. Which kind did you use? Trying to figure out which is best to use on dreadlocks. Thanks. Love you video. Very helpful. I didn't know that's how you do that at the roots. I've been wondering about that for a while now too. Super helpful. Thanks again. :) digging the dreads too.

    Would a homemade crochet hook work? mine is a pencil.

    • @jknohate3146

      Crochet hooks are designed in a specific way a pencil wouldn't work

  • @effinrad7669
    @effinrad7669 8 років тому

    So would you say this is a safe way to crochet it? based on your experience do u get hair thinning like what other people say about crocheting dreads. I'm planning to get dreadlocks but I want to maintain it here and there just to not make it look too messy.

    • @PlatedTV
      @PlatedTV  8 років тому

      EffinRad I've never had a problem, but it really depends on your hair type and how fast your hair grows.. Crotching your dreads too much will cause thinning, you just need to not over do it!

    • @PlatedTV

      I usually just go by feel, once youve done the top and sides and can see and feel how they look doing the back isnt too hard, remember dreads dont need to be perfect.. They sort themselves out over time!

    Please respond what do I do when I have dreads and my hair keeps growing so I have straight hair for half an inch then it starts my dreads

    • @PlatedTV
      @PlatedTV  7 років тому

      So you can either leave the new growth and it will naturally dread, the new natural dread will grow differently to crochet dreads, they will be softer and have waves in them if you let the do it themselves or you can crochet the new growth every couple of months. Really depends of what look you want, If you leave it then the dreads look a little bit more messy but natural or you crochet them and they look super neat and tidy but they can hurt for a few days after doing this each time as the new dread pulls on the scalp.. hope this helps

    You have beautiful locks! But the way you're crocheting them terrifies me haha. It seems to be working for you, but I'd be too worried about breaking hairs to crochet them that aggressively.
