You got there in the end which is all that matters, it occurred to me that when Kenner originally developed these ranges they probably went through similar design and durability tests. Great Vid, Cheers, Fuzz.
I just used this technique on a 15" Darth Vader. When I got it, the arms were very loose due to the stretched out rubber bands inside. Now the arms are really tight. Thanks for the info!
As you know I fixed mine almost the same way, the only difference is I went in the side of the good arm, pulled it out slightly and threaded the cable tie in that way not having to cut the original O ring, this has given it extra strength and my O ring that I added in the middle is still holding, great figure to restore though and excellent video.
On this one that would not have worked. The good arm was still attached very well and there was not enough gap to work through. On some the original o-rings streets over time and will give you access.
Hello...and why would you go inside through the good arm ??...couldnt you do the same going in through the hole where the other good arm came off ?? ...
Horrible moment in my childhood when I was in my backyard and I just twisted it and it snapped. me and my friends loved the rancor it was the perfect badguy for our stormtroopers. shame I didn't have this as a child or thing of it I did something similar with breadties but it didn't hold up and the arms were limp.
I've just repaired a rancor and watched your video before hand and had planned to do the same but didn't want to cut the good arm elastic. I ended up getting 3mm elastic, threaded it through the loop on the detached arm, then passed it through the body either side of the original rubber fixing and out the side of the attached arm hole. Then pulled it tight, did a loop and pulled it tight and then again to secure it. The cut off the remaining. Ended up with a great fix that is very comparable to the original with a stiff pose. Only difference is it doesn't hold quite as well on the up/down shoulder movement. Very easy to do and undo as well if a better solution comes up. Give it a go next time you pick up a broken one.
Thanks Mr Polloi!!! This fix works like a charm. I had an extra damaged piece. The attach of the arm was also broken. Had to improvise one making two holes and inserting a ringed wire. Also put shorter flanges. The arms are working perfectly now P:D Too bad that we (still) can't attach any photo on youtube
I'd like to repair my Rancor this week-end, I'm looking on the net and of course what's the first result...(OK, my UA-cam algorithm perhaps)...Once more, many thanks Dave 😉. Iwan, Liège - Belgium
How do you think a small spring would work. The thought is it would give the tension to hold the arms, but still have enough give to pull out and hook the arms together.
HugoGS GS Lighter fluid, Q-tips/cotton buds, kitchen paper and patience. Lighter fluid generally doesn’t damage surfaces but try it on a small hidden area first to see if affects the paint or colouring. I’ve used lighter fluid to clean sticker residue from cardboard boxes without damage. Patience is key. Take a bit of extra time and it will work.
Kenner: We attach each arm with its own o-ring and then glue the two halves of the Rancour together for a permanent assembly that no one can tamper with. Toy Polloi: Hold my cup of tea…
Great video as always. I have a strange question for you (and the folks in the comment section). Do you know if there is any chance that Kenner would have sent out a figure with the arms attached backwards (left on right and vice versa). I got my self a vintage Rancor with the arms on the wrong side. I tried to see if I could get a clue if the arms was factory attached, or "home made", but it wasnt easy. It seemed to me, shining a light down his throat, that his arms was tied with a bungy cord, and not using an O-ring. But it also seemed that it was tied in the "front" of the figure, just like it should be (except a knot instead of a "solid" O-ring). It wasnt easy to get under his arms, looking in his "arm pits" so to say 🙂
@@toypolloi Thanks for the response, really appreciate it. 👍 He looks really intimidating with his arms up in the air, in an "attacking pose", but if I have them in a "rest position", he drags his arms behind him, and the elbow is in front of him 😄 If it was a factor error I would have kept him that way, but as it seems to be a home made repair, I think that I will reattach his arms.
Forgive me for being a comment necro here. Dave, I'm wondering if a fix like this would work on the broken arm centurion figures? Are their chests hollow enough on the inside that something like this could work? Not that the current LEGO fix isn't brilliant and makes me kick myself for letting my parents throw out my broken centurions 35 years ago
sorry, I get lost on Wikipedia sometimes. I also found a witch from Star Wars with pet Wampas. thought it would be an interesting twist to a collection
Martinjr1975 Try on-line. Look for cable ties. They come in different lengths and the width of the cable tie is usually proportional to the length, so a 4” long cable tie is likely to have a 1/8th” width (100mm x 3mm). Local DIY stores or electronics stores or even some supermarkets might have small packs for a couple of dollars (or pounds). I have also seen small packets in gas stations (petrol stations) on the stand where they usually have sewing kits, sticky tape, fuses, curtain hooks, string, appliance plugs, etc.
Just checked on mine. He's missing his plastic ring in his arm. The rubber o ring is in place and looks to be in nice shape. Guess I will be attempting my own repair job soon. Because of your video of course
I love how you save these awesome star wars videos
Thanks
Yay! many thanks! had a one arm Rancor since the 90's!
Ah that's a bummer. The LEGO trick though, that's absolutely brilliant
Thank you!!! I just bought one and fixed it for my sons birthday!
You got there in the end which is all that matters, it occurred to me that when Kenner originally developed these ranges they probably went through similar design and durability tests. Great Vid, Cheers, Fuzz.
I'm sure they did. And the picked a very awkward way of doing it in then end :)

That Rancor would be good for the Imperial arm-y.
Fiddle ee? Love it!! Keep em coming good fixes!!!

As usual you amaze me with the cleverness and simplicity of the way you fix stuff.

cheers mate it worked! I used an elastic hair tie and looped it!
Nice one!
This repairing method is smart!
if u push a drawing pin stick pin under tab part u can un do the cable ties again an re use them
Thanks Mr Polloi!!! This fix works like a charm.

I have same problem, can you go into a bit more detail? Sorry, I know that was years ago! Thanks
Cool, Thanks for sharing this! I think I'll try this on my Kenner Alien
Another fine restoration, thanks for sharing the knowledge!
Thanks.
great Video, love your star wars fix videos
Thanks.
nice work around!
Crafty ideal. Well done.
Wow I just purchased a rancor for 21 bucks has the same issue thanks for posting this video great job 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🚀
great job mate! Thanks for sharing this with us.
Really great. Fascinating.
The fact that this video just got a shout out on a certain anti-repro Facebook page made me chuckle 😅
I wonder which group that was 🤔 I know I get mentioned a lot in those groups. They pretend they don't watch, but I know they do.
Nice one, thank you.

I fixed mine lastight thanks for the how to video 👍
Great fix that one!
Nice fix. Thank you for sharing.
Cool, I hope your second fix is holding firm.
It has worked perfectly. The elastic is much stronger.
Good work! I'll try it with muy armless rancor. Also, any idea or video to unattach decals or stickers? Tanks!!
Lighter fluid will loosen them, but it takes time. And is very hard to not damage them.

You should have more subs. Now if I find a broken one for cheap at least I can buy him for posing.
+Sam Brentwood I know. I am almost at 5000, but would be nice to have a few more.
One reason they glued a lot of toys together is from kids in that day liked taking everything apart..lol
Brilliant!
MUCHAS GRACIAS VOY A PODER RECUPERAR MI FIGURA....SALUDOS DESDE MEX.
What about replacing the rubber o-rings with a small metal washer? That would never snap apart.
Not really sure what your plan is. But give it a go and let me know how it works out. Cheers
Kenner: We attach each arm with its own o-ring and then glue the two halves of the Rancour together for a permanent assembly that no one can tamper with.
Toy Polloi: Hold my cup of tea…
I don't think they thought that these toys would still be around more than a few years later. So it probably was a good idea, at the time?
you're brilliant!
Brilliant
Try and try again...🙂👍 That's how progress is made
That's my whole channel 😂
@@toypolloi Keep up the great work on those old toys and keep the creativity flowing 😃👍
awesome man
If the rancor jaw mechanism doesn't work anymore is there a fix for that?
5:01 OOPS! Time to sever the arms and get them attached to the correct side!
I wonder If they have elasticized zip ties?
love these
Thanks
It;s a good thing you're doing.
great job, you're a magician with toys friend. Does the Rancor arms snap now like they did when they were new?
They are a bit looser than the original but still can hold a pose.
Great video as always.

what do you like more between the old rancore toy or the new? based on looks and action abuilities?
I have never had a modern Rancor so can't say. Old toys at just better :D
i love the classics but when it comes to module qaullity i like the modern alot

There is no space inside the centurion figures because of the other gimmicks they have. It's very limited what space you have to repair them.
have you ever heard of making a saddle for a Rancor?
Nope. I have never heard of that.
sorry, I get lost on Wikipedia sometimes. I also found a witch from Star Wars with pet Wampas. thought it would be an interesting twist to a collection
What about using a third cable tie instead of elastics?
You need something with a bit of spring in it for the arms to be able to rotate independantly.
Mine has not broke but still useful
I have this figure and the only problem I have with it is the back is splitting
what if the plastic circle on the arm snaps off?
Drill a hole next to the hole that is left, and thread it through there.
the o ring on mine is good but the hook that the o ring goes on broke off can you show how to restore this please
Drill a small hole next to where the hook has snapped. You can then slot the cable tie through that and out through where the hook has broken.
Hello same question but what technique would you use to fix the SMDM Bigfoot arms ? Kind Regards
I have just covered that exact problem in this video: ua-cam.com/video/zCcXyV2oLX4/v-deo.html
Oh thank you very much. Where can i buy those little cable ties or what are they called ? Kind Regards
Martinjr1975 Try on-line. Look for cable ties. They come in different lengths and the width of the cable tie is usually proportional to the length, so a 4” long cable tie is likely to have a 1/8th” width (100mm x 3mm).

Do you have a fix for jabba the huts arms?
I do, but I have yet to get a Jabba to work on. Once I find one, I will film a video. Cheers
interesting how to..:)
My Rancor arm fell off because the plastic fixing on the arm broke. Has anyone a fix for that?
DM me with a photo and I'm sure I can suggest something. Cheers
Else was my idea too
😎
I'm not afraid of him- he's practically 'armless!
Now ya got me wondering what mysteries are in there to hold his arms on originally.
Don't think I want to meet the monster that tore the arm off a Rancor.
That is easier than the wampa.
Mine is a victim of this.
Got him with a glued on arm for one dollar!
Just checked on mine.
He's missing his plastic ring in his arm.
The rubber o ring is in place and looks to be in nice shape.
Guess I will be attempting my own repair job soon.
Because of your video of course
That Rancor is 'armless.
What a "handy" fix! (out of arm puns)
Fixing an old Rancor? There's no 'arm in it.
I almost stopped watching before the fix of the fix part. Can you add a little pop in warning for future viewers?
+Welshy Sensei You need to watch all of my videos. No skipping as you'll miss a handy tip ;)
I'm working on it! I think I need some more ships because I love the customizations you've done!
stooped
what a dumb design.
