Welcome to another VirtualBike! This week we return to Chicago's Lakefront Trail to go southbound from the North Side (Edgewater, N Sheridan Rd) to the South Side (South Shore, E 71st St). This is perhaps the best way to experience Chicago's iconic lakefront. Blue water of Lake Michigan and the green grass and skycrapers of The Second City.
A little history: Chicago architect and city planner Daniel Burnham (Burnham Park is a nod to him!) once had a vision of Chicago's entire lakefront being parkland and a place to enjoy the day (in his day a lot of the urban area stretched all the way to the original lake shore along Michigan Ave). Well, that is pretty much the case today!
