- Comparison of Amstaffs and Pitbulls - two extremely similar, i would say almost identical dog breeds. But are they really the same? And if not, what is the difference?

Simply put, the American Pit Bull Terrier remained similar to the original dogs, they are typically slightly smaller in terms of weight, but more agile and explosive. They tend to have stronger drive, they are slightly more agressive and energetic.
On the other hand the AmStaff is for decades bred for the show ring. This makes the dog more calm and less drivey. The selective breeding also makes them bigger and stockier, with thicker legs.
American Staffordshire Terriers typically possess a broader head with well-defined cheek muscles, giving them a distinctive appearance. In contrast, Pitbulls often have a more streamlined head shape and a narrower muzzle.

Thank you for explaining the difference. I have a Staffie who is now over 15 years old but she's definitely fading. She never hurt anyone but she was very protective of a puppy we had. For some reason she also got along with but didn't really seem to like a wire haired terrier we had. I guess it goes that way sometimes.

Yes & No: They both have been interbred with one another. Recently AKC won't register pups if both parents are not American Staffordshire Terriers. AKC also discriminates against certain colors. Reason being is those colors come from Terriers that were from Ireland. Physically AKC dogs will be better looking, because they are bred for it. ADBA breeds for performance and working ability. UKC tends to be inferior to the ADBA. ADBA also shows dogs as well along with UKC.

I have a Staffy mixed and every time I see this particular man he swears she's a pit bull and I always correct him and his response is their the same breed I told him they weren't and he just kept trying to justify his response I know what I'm talking about sir 🙄
Mine is an Amstaff/Rottweiler mix .if you happened to be the Amazon or ups driver im sure you dont understand how much of an over grown baby he is... He has real issues with people coming to the door & just leaving things even if its his food lol ...Roscoe is almost 6 & weighs 125lbs and the strongest dog i have even owned in all my over 50 yrs I have had 3 other dogs one who was Not a pit but liked to eat people he was a Collie mix & a rescue GREAT with women & kids but hated men. As for my Amstaff/Rottweiler mix when we are out he will go right up to anyone & just start licking cuddling & while his size can be very intimidating hes the worlds biggest sweetheart .. So sick of the Pitbull stigma its NOT the dog its how they were raised. If a dog just like a child is mistreated they will grow up very unhappy unhealthy emotionally & they wont know what true love is If you raise a dog with only love ....they just dont know anything but love ...

Cześć, bardzo ciekawy materiał. Mam pitbulla, w spadku po szwagrze, pies bardzo wymagający. Trzeba mu poświęcić dużo czasu na trening w ciągu dnia, ale zauważyłem że im dłużej z nim ćwiczę, tym bardziej się do tego przyzwyczaja i ciągle mu mało. Niestety mimo wielu prób, nie mogę odduczyć agresji do innych psów. Tylko jak jest już mocno zmęczony po treningu to jest „neutralny” do innych psów. Do ludzi nie ma tego problemu z agresją.
They might not be bred to fight now, but that's why they were created to do. People should stop breeding these monsters.
People are the real monsters, not dogs. If you think that dogs a monster you should check out Kangal, Caucasian Shepard, Cane Corso, and Doggo de Argentina as well as many others. Some of those dogs can one on one with a tiger or grizzly pretty easy.

You can turn any dog breed into agressive one, but with normal training and socialization Amstaffs are definitely not agressive.
