Overcoming Creative Block by Filling Pages with Doodles

  • From the time I was a little kid, I've had this crazy desire to draw, but often, I would feel overwhelmed by that dreaded blank page or be at a loss for ideas.
    To get around this creative block, I started with something small! I'd just draw a tiny doodle on the page and then continue by adding something next to it that somehow fit into the space of the first doodle. And you know what? I kept doing this until the entire page was filled! It forced me to think differently and approach my drawings from unique angles, as I had to make everything fit into those negative spaces. It also eased the pressure of feeling like I had to make 1 good drawing-instead I’d just make a ton of OK drawings, lol.
    In this UA-cam video, I want you to join me as I take on this drawing challenge on my trusty iPad in Adobe Fresco. I'll be filling up a blank page with all sorts of random doodles and playful art, and I assure you, there will be plenty of stupid jokes along the way.
    When I tackle a blank page, I like to start at the edge rather than the center. It just feels less intimidating. This way, I can gradually build my artwork, circling back around and weaving new doodles into the mix.
    Drawing has been my passion since I was a kid, and this technique has been a lifesaver in sparking my creativity. It's all about making it fun, keeping it loose, and embracing the fun of creating without the pressure of producing just one "perfect" piece.
    So, if you're ready to dive into this artistic adventure with me, grab your iPad, sketchbook, or any drawing tool of your choice, and let's turn those blank pages into vibrant canvases filled with random stuff!

    This is awesome I have always enjoyed drawing words and NO or Nope is always the first one. But I never thought of drawing things to just fill up the page, new level unlocked. Love the channel

    Absolutely loved this. I may try this out.
    I draw a lot with pencil ink and paper so could maybe do this there too!

      @@chris-piascik did you just go straight in with ink or do it with pencil first then ink it in?
      And thanks for the answer back, literally just smacked the subscribe button haha.

      @pauljakeman I actually used to do them without sketching. I was a bit more loose back then I guess!

      @@chris-piascik awesome I’ll definitely give it a try mate. I’ve only ever really copied things to practice drawing so doing this will use my brain more to see what I can come up with.
      Btw I loved your style through this. Definitely the type of stuff I want to do too

    I do something similar, but filling a page lettering random words in different typographic styles (often ideas for fonts I might make). Sometimes I stick a random cartoon head in it.

    I have a question when drawing you don’t use a fully straight line all the time is that on purpose?

    • @chris-piascik
      @chris-piascik  2 місяці тому

      Hmmm maybe? I guess maybe because everything is so loose and organic that a perfectly straight line might look out of place.

    How would you draw a vector layer drawing with halftone brushes in fresco

    • @chris-piascik
      @chris-piascik  11 місяців тому

      Unfortunately there’s not currently a halftone brush in the vector brush options. If I were to do this though. I’d make a vector circle and then duplicate it into a small pattern and then duplicate that pattern and merge that into a bigger one until I had a full halftone page. Then you could just mask that to a shape you wanted it to appear in.
