I am really annoyed that 7.62x25 isn't more popular, it's such a good round. It has similar energy to 357 magnum in similar barrel lengths. It's 357 sig from 1930!
@@keithlarsen7557 Only on penetration, like tank warfare anti tank rounds are lighter shot at a high velocity, HE rounds are heavier with a slower velocity/
Dude it’s a top notch Tokarev...lmao. I don’t think there’s much more of a man stopping pistol chamber like 7.62 x 25 JHP. I love my tokarevs more than my makarov. In fact they’re better. Plus two mag extenders, new mag springs. These pistols are serious.
@@timkc1638 I wrote Buffalo Bore begging for a Tok Round!!! PLEASE... ask all your friends! BB has listened to their customers B fore!!! I have some Privi Hollow Points in my CZ 52 and it is one of my GO TO vehicle rounds... I want to do some test with them to see how they perform in Water jugs etc!!!
I have a Russian made TT33 Tokarev (1951) I purchased it years ago in Vancouver BC for $169 cdn. Been a great gun. Put many boxes of surplus Russian ammo through it without any malfunction whatsoever. Very reliable gun, worth every penny.😃👍
This is the most articulate demonstration I have ever seen on You Tube. I bought this weapon from Bud's Gun Shop at a decent price. Beautiful weapon. I used it today at the local gun range. I was most accurate at 10 feet. A flawless pistol. I referred to this video when I cleaned the new weapon and has to reassemble it. Great, great video. Everyone was quite impressed with this weapon.
You guys can get some cool stuff up there sometimes, and I guess one of the benefits of having restricted up there is less people are likely to jump on the restricted bandwagon, so there's more handgun surplus to go around. stuff is really drying up down here. luckily it seems zastava is making new M57's (for now)
Wonderful review on a very very important cold war handgun. I own 27 different variants of the Tokarev, and love the ballistics of the 7.62x25 I have interchangeable barrels for 9x19, 9x18, and even a .22 lr adaption, of course usable on a certain frame, usually Norinco. You are now my favorite firearm channel on the Utube. Remember, there are two types of countries, those who use the metric system, and those who have landed men on the moon. God bless America.. .
Yugoslavia was never a part of the Warsaw Pact! It remained independent and nonaligned, which is probably why it was stepped over by the NATO monsters! It was the only functional Socialist Society that got destroyed by haters who were great at spreading hate!
It's a bold move to venture into a review on a gun such as the Tokarev. We often think of cheap as being inferior and/ or non-functional. That is not always the case-- and the Tokarev is a fine example of thinking outside the box. Well done. Along those same lines dare I mention the words Hi-Point ? I have seen the 4595 45 ACP carbine shoot well at the range. Yet it is also cheap. I can't say that about my Olympic Arms .45 ACP AR- upper drop in- which cost twice the price of the Hi-Point. If fact I have had to send it back to Olympic Arms upper back due to battery/feeding problems. What I have seen of the Hi-Point it didn't have any of those problems and cost have the price. Bottom line: Guns that are cheap in price don't always mean they are cheap in quality.
I've got my 9mm carbine. My kid is a cop. I own a LOT of guns. But he just loves the he'll out of that hipoint carbine. Only like 8 rounds. Accurate. No jams. Only use irons because the rail is plastic but that is my preference. Within 100 rounds it IS fun
100% correct. AK’s were considered “cheap” by western firearm community for too long. Little did they know that AK’s took entire towns to manufacture in the Russian and com bloc country factories. There is no rifle on earth like a well made AK. Cheap has nothing to do with quality.
When said ammo was plentiful, you had to be careful. The Bulgarian ammo was hot. Also, PPSH ammo was too hot for the tt. The above ammo had the potential to blow up a TT. I owned a CZ52. The Czechs made ammo for the CZ52 25% hotter than a standard TT. Since the Czechs were part of the Warsaw pack, they had to use 7.62x25 standard. But, they create the 52 (capable of handling the PPSH ammo as well). 7.62x25 ammo comes in different types. As I understand it, it is not marked +p ammo (like 9mmx19). You may have to possess some care. If the metallurgy has improved, that pistol may be able to handle the above mentioned types of ammo.
Agreed. Awesome gun just in general. I really think the Tokarev catches my eye as my favorite steel handgun. The profile is just very nice and I’ve found it in my opinion to be very aesthetically pleasing. The shooting is very nice as well. I have a cugir TT33 and a Radom Tokarev and they’re my favorite handguns. I guess, I personally have always preferred the feel of steel in my hands vs my polymer handgun models. I trust my Tokarevs.
Especially considering the Chinese ones are getting harder to find, and this one offers a nicer safety to boot. Also, Norinco Tokarevs were available in both 9mm and 7.62 Tok (we have barrels and mags for both and they work in the same gun)
I got the M70A 9mm version a few years ago, just for ammo availability, and its a beautiful pistol and shoots great. You can also get rid of the magazine disconnect by bending a piece of metal out of the way.
@@deezydayungdon It's really easy. You just remove the grip panels and you'll see the connection to the trigger. Pull the trigger a few times and you'll see bar of metal blocking it. Just bend the blocking metal enough out of the way for the trigger to fully pull and also be able to put the grips back on. Some people recommend just cutting the metal away, but it's more of a hassle.
Thanks for the review, Sootch. You answered all my questions about the gun, and showed me what it looks like in action. With a hammer block safety, it appears it could be carried cocked and locked. If I ever get an autoloader-pistol, it will be one of these.
This gun is a gun of three generations. Used by all and axtremely regliable. My dad owned this exact gun in old Yugoslavia. The Police used this a lot. You mess with them this guy would teach you not to.
I smoothed and lightened the trigger pull a little by removing the trigger, breaking down the hammer, sear and disconnector group and then polishing all the contact surfaces. Noticeable difference for sure.
Im Yugoslavian person that’s property production of Yugoslavia not serbia its very wrong please be accurate next time because serbia didn’t make any handguns yet just largely weapon produce like canons
Fuad Huskic You communist loon. Maybe you only exist because some idiot Yugoslav communist invented your fake ethnicity. That factory in Kragujevac has been making infantry weapons for Kingdom of Serbia’s military since 19th century: when your dedo and nana were hanging in the trees. That factory, located in the heart of Serbia, made all of Yugoslavia’s (until 1992.) and today Serbia’s domestically produced military and police semi and full auto rifles, machine guns, sniper rifles and pistols.
As always sootch, you have again presented a very well done historical and highly informational video. Enjoy learning some good and interesting things about guns from you.
Please quit saying "car gun." I've been a cop for 17 years and guns get stolen out of cars all the time and are then used in crimes. People need to bring their guns with them and not left in their cars. Cars get broken into way more often than houses are burgled. The idea of a "car gun" because it's cheap just proliferates criminal activity. I'm all for private citizens being armed, but think about the possibility of others being victimized by a firearm that was stolen out of your car. Keep your firearms under your control please.
Right on, policeman,,,,,, I sure don't want to select the most tactical pistol I can find, then fine tune it for accuracy and dependability,,,,,, just to get it pointed at me. .......another point, from experience, a gun is 100% useless and does not exist if you can't get your hands on it NOW. .....This "GO GET MY GUN" thing doesn't end well.
JPDNINJA most cops leave there AR in the sqaud car lol just sayin. but i get what your saying this gun will blow threw type two armor which is standard for most departments. but so will that AR
JPDNINJA I agree any moron that would leave a gun in a car and call it a truck or car gun should be charged imo if found or stolen. Why would you even do that? I can't even leave my glasses or phone in my car and feel right much less a fucking pistol or rifle I paid money for and can be taken out right there and then and kill.
JPDNINJA I’m with you! Too bad we have so many “Gun Free” zones, that we have to leave our guns unattended! Every time you take your gun out of your holster, is a chance for an accident! My gun goes in, in the morning, & out @ night! I hate leaving my gun in the car!
Really excellent review as always; you are very thorough! I appreciate your reviews of old war and pocket pistols. In NAM I gave a Chinese version to a navy man for a case of steaks--lol.
Thanks for this. I have friends who really like the 7.62 Tokarev round, but so far I'd only been acquainted with surplus weapons like the CZ 52 that chamber it. It's good to know that there are new weapons that also handle it. It can be carried cocked with the safety catch engaged? As I understand it, traditionally the Soviet pistol carriers would carry them with an empty chamber and the hammer down, so they'd have to rack the slide before shooting, hence they didn't need a safety catch. Those who like to fill them up and carry cocked need the safety. I think the factory model with a safety is the M57A.
I have an old, original M57 service pistol, so the older 1911 style safety installed for import on mine. It also has the Yugoslav Crest on the slide. Little bit of holster wear but I like it, great shooting gun, I love the look of the TT-33 linage. Sure wouldn't mind adding a new one to the collection! Great gun!
Strange enough, but my old army M-57 works better and more accurate than this commersian version. The magazines are roughly finished, sometimes difficult to withdraw, the surfaces inside the frame and slide are horrible. Only good improvement is safety, blocking firing pin. Plus the price, 12 years ago it was under $200.
So glad that you pointed out how thin it is and the finish. My old 50's TT blueing is unreal. The contrasting crazy machining marks only enhance the finishes appeal :) Grips - I put the "Navy" grips on mine and it fits my smaller thin hands perfectly. They bring up the pistol's point of aim to be perfectly straight for me. Recoil - With my weaker hands and wrists the caliper feels a little sharp but easy to control vs say a modern a polymer 9mm. Which for me is not comfortable. Highly recommend recoil sensitive peeps give one a try it made me get back into side arms :) Added bonus - Matching fireballs with your Mosin!
Watching from the UK! Great video, love your style it is a great mix of good facts and your experience. Works really well. Shame we struggle to have such pistols over here. We are off to Texas next year for some good shooting. We need a fix. Thanks.
I was able to get my hands on a used Tokarev M57 Hugo (A gift from my son) made at one time in Yugoslavia. Therefore the name nick name Hugo. One of the better pistols manufactured in that former country. An accurate, soft shooting pistol. Its light recoil would be comparable to shooting a 22 magnum round. But man, is it loud! Every one at the indoor range that I go to stopped firing and watched me shoot this thing! Did I mention the Tokarev's flame thrower like muzzle flash!

Glad i got one of these from classic firearms a few years ago. Probably the best shooter i have. I was also lucky enough to fine enough surplus ammo at that time. Those days are long gone however.
+sootch00 I didnt know century arms had a plant in vermont . thats awsome....Southerners and us new enlanders love our guns... keep up the good work love your channel.
Good stuff. It is excellent for defense, turns bone to shrapnel, the JHP rounds beat 9mm hp in damage and the red standard is magnetic ammo, the high velocity steel jacket lead core copper coat ammo can put a car down easily.
Many years ago while serving in the Army I was told by an old Sargent from the USSR that my 1911 had a fatal flaw because it lacked the retention latch that the Tokarev possessed. I never lost a slide stop from a 1911. I do like the Tokarev and the little 7.62x25 round. I reload the 7.62x25 for a single shot MGM Contender barrel. Great little squirrel and other small game round when loaded with cast bullets over a charge of H110. Very similar to another cartridge I love - the 32-20 Winchester.
I had TT when I was in my early teens and living in USSR. I could get in big trouble back then for having a weapon (any weapon). Luckily I didn't have live ammo and that helped to stay out of trouble. .
I have a M57 actual Yugoslavia made imported by century arms, a used pistol. I love it, shoots great, accurate as all. Ammo is cheap and abundant. You are right, there are grips available aftermarket. I have replaced them with nice wood grips, again I love this pistol.
And I disagree about the gun I think is a very nice looking pistol on its own beat up Russian way...there's beauty to something like this or an AK due to the fact that they just plain work and work and work.
***** guess at the end of the day practical gun wins the show. And TT is one of those guns; not beauty but reliable, not ergonomic yet you can use it quite a lot.Workhorse not prom queen :P.
@@ermedic2007 it was favored by 1990's russian gangsters and hitmans over any other handgun (except maybe Stechkin, which is only love and signature weapon of former KGB's and Chechen highlanders) because of it and an ability to penetrate soft armors, protected doors, car doors and compartments and very good range for a handgun.
+101stbob You guys even have strict limitations on air guns over there in the liberal utopia don't you? Max fps and all that? You won't be alone for long, just give Hillary a few years and we will be right there with you.
I feel like I never appreciated the Tokarev pistol too much in the past, to me it is Russia's excellent interpretation of the 1911 design, really a brilliant pistol
I'm in between jobs but once I land another one I'm going to pick one of these up. I'll even throw it in my carry rotation (which is kinda big already) once I get my hands on some hollowpoints, and function tested with them. Great review btw!
Andrew, get some new S&B FMJ ammo and enjoy. You don't need hollowpoints at the 1500FPS the S&B ammo will give you. PPU lies about their velocities. It does not even go that fast in a submachinegun.
100%. The pistol was a war pistol. Solid steel. 7.62 x 25 is a seriously lethal and powerful chamber. Nay sayers believe that 357 sig is the same...it isn’t. My Czech 7.62 x 25 fmj carries so much more penetration power than 357 sig. If Glock, CZ or springfield xd made a double stack Tokarev I would immediately purchase one without blinking an eye. See the issue is...who makes money when an old school chamber from Russia proves superior? Get it?
Thank you, brother, for a great review! I think the only thing you missed was the hammer drop safety in action-and i just wish you had covered the converted subgun a bit more! You did a really professional job! I just lucked out getting the same pistol along with FIVE magazines in a good trade-and the same day i went to pick up the M57 i was able to work a trade for a brand new Russian Makarov in .380! And that was just after a gunshow i had come from on one of my rare outings-disabled vet. Thank you again so very much, you actually saved me some further research i was about to undertake! Mike Perrine
I liked the video too, but he sure did not do any original research on the velocities from this pistol. Only certain ammo gives you 1500FPS. Most others are in the 1200 / 1300 range and NONE give you 1700 / 1800.
Prepping channels talk about stash guns, but if you stash that gun incorrectly it will rust. Showing how to grease guns to stash them or some ways to protect from rust while you keep them in your car would be an excellent vid topic :).
I got one of these from J&G Sales not long ago. The front sight blade fell off on the second mag. Then, I didn't realize it, but a pin in the guide rod came loose and caused a lot of failures to eject. I put 200 rounds through it and the bluing started coming off too. That said, it was a spectacular shooter. Even without the front sight blade I was getting good groupings, and it felt very solid in the hand; very 1911-like. I really wish it hadn't fallen apart. It really seemed like a nice gun. J&G was great to work with. 2 stars for the pistol and 5 stars for J&G.
You are the most articulate person on UA-cam. I was wondering if you would do a review of the IWI Jericho? I plan to open a fan page on the IWI Jericho. I have my Jericho 6 years.
good review! being from croatia i did grow up with m m57, it is robust and cheap. i own zastava m88 a and that will be compact version of m70 in 9x19. no majr problems with it and i bought it in 1990. re-blued once and replaced grips with wooden ones. best for 7,62x25 that i can recommend is s&b bullets with hp, try them if you can i think you will like it. good secondary gun choice for keep in shelf, under bed or something like that. keep up the good work.
My Zastava M57 (Tito) 😏was made in 1968, it's got a date with the gunsmith coming, Tritium sights and a fresh bluing. This gun shoots like greased lighting, with a nice smooth action, fun as all hell to shoot. His little brother the M70 in .32 acp is a joy as well, and they have inspired me to start a Zastava Collection. Can't beat the quality or the price. For the 7.62x25 nay sayers, have you ever shot it? You can't say it isn't a blast, and you're hand still works after of shooting.
I have some Chinese Surpus Rounds I run through my 52 that are REALY hot. Not sure where they came from, my Father in law bough them somewhere over the years. I have about 2000 of them left. The 52 can handle the hotter rounds better with the roller locking mechanism. The nice thing is with just a barrel change the 52 can fire a 9x19 or 9x23 cartridge as well. The only bad thing on a lot of the 52's is the de-cocker. My de-cocker, like many, doubles as an extra trigger!
***** I have some yugo ammo that's pretty hot too - definitely one of the funnest pistols to shoot. The other weakness on the CZ 52 is the firing pin - they're real brittle so don't dry fire. If you do need a new one, there are stainless steel aftermarket pins out there.
Yugoslavian army and rest of its armed services never switched to Makarov 9x18 but after TT adopted 9mm Luger and used it with Zastava M88, M99, M999 in Serbia and other ex Yu countries adopted mainly Glocks with some Croatian officers using HS2000.
German service pistols: P08 9x19mm P38 9x19mm P1 9x19mm P8 9x19mm Soviet / Russian service pistols: M1895 7.62x38mm R TT-33 7.62x25mm Makarov PM 9x18mm MP-443 9x19mm Seems like the russians cant stick to a caliber.
John Quester I don't know. Even though they've gone to 9x19 I hear a lot still like the Makarov PM and the 9x18. I hear some units still use it. I think 9x18 is their longest serving pistol cartridge
Mike Themike They weren't forced to do anything, they fought in both world wars because of their choices. Attacking ships unprovoked is not a good idea, neither is invading countries for no reason other than having the ability.
Mike Themike What they wanted doesn't matter, unrestricted submarine warfare got them into the first one and the invasion of Poland got them into the second one, these are undisputable facts. Germany declared war on two other countries before anyone declared war on them, they attacked several countries unprovoked and without justification. Nobody wanted a world war, but Germany sure had no problem being a major cause of it.
It was a service pistol in both Yugoslav Armed Forces and Police forces ( Милиција ). The gun was NOT replaced by Makarov or any of it's copies, since it was not used by any yugoslav force. M-57 was replaced with Zastava CZ-99, chambered in 9x19 Para.
LOVE the 7.62x25 round!! FAST and hard hitting!! Funny how the new ammo is cheaper (and better) than the surplus... (Classic Arms has some 80's Romanian surplus for sale now, but it's not cheap) Prvi Partizan PPU (Which is made in Serbia) and Sellier and Bellot. For some reason, the hollow points aren't that easy to find, even tho they are made. I heard the Norinco steel ammo in this round is awesome and the hardest hitting. Nice to know that Red Army Standard is making this now. If I'm not mistaken, the M57 is the ONLY current firearm being chambered in this round? I have a CZ52, which I love, and actually (in my opinion) handles and shoots better than the M57. Nevertheless, I do love this pistol. Thanks for the excellent video.
Classic Arms: Romanian 7.62x25 Ammunition, Brass, Berdan, 1980's Production, Sure Fire... 72 Rounds / Box, 86 Grain FMJ, Bright and Shiny... We Sell this by the Box or the Tin. Total Price for the Tin = $488.75. The Red Army Standard ammo is like $49 for 150 rds, from Classic Arms, Noncorrosive, current production.. I've fired the surplus stuff back in the day, it's dirty and its not very accurate or reliable compared to the new cheaper stuff
joey p I don't know, I've shot more than a whole tin worth of surplus and never had an FTF. Maybe I'm just lucky?! I also have a CZ52 that's modded and love it! I'm so lucky when I bought my ammo, I bought 4 tins (spam cans) right at the $.10 a round mark!! (have 3 tins or so left) These new prices are absolutely insane IMO...
I know that my CZ52 ate anything with little issues.... Even the high powered Norinco surplus stuff that you can barely find since the Chinese ban back in April of 94. It seemed to hot for my M57 tho. The surplus was definitely worth it at the time, but now with the cost being so high, and it being corrosive, I'm not sure where the incentive would be. Just bought the Red Army battle pack from Classic. Wish Glock or someone made a pistol for that round LOL
joey p Yeah I totally agree, if there is no price incentive, then no reason to go with the inconvenience of corrosive surplus ammo. I got lazy one time and my barrel started rusting because of it (I knew better but you know). Anyway, I scrubbed it out good and just hope I didn't cause too much damage. Still shoots fine, but I know that wasn't good for it. Lesson learned...
I have the CZ52. Heavy as hell but is much more robust being able to safely fire the Soviet Submachine gun 7.62x25mm rounds and has internal drop safety and a decocking safety. Oh this one has the hammer block, very nice. Firing the Soviet ammo is fun because everyone at the gun range will freak when they see the 6 inch muzzle flash when you fire.
sounds like a great summer carry gun seeing as its so thin and in a potent cartridge. transfer bar makes it safe for cocked and locked. i love it! beautiful gun
Even in 2021 it’s still possible to get really good deals on these. I managed to get a Romanian made one for $124.99 on gun broker last week. Excellent gun for the price. I’d try to stay away from Chinese made ones but even they aren’t all that bad
The Chinese ones are fine and about up to par with real Soviet stuff. I think the Chinese were using Russian machines and tools to keep making them even well after the Sino-Soviet split.
Actually the Chinese ones are exact copies of the Russians because they were made using Russian equipment. The Russian original versions had no safety. The Chinese version ( imported ) has a trigger safety that looks like a Glock safety. It can easily be replaced with an original Russian trigger for $25.00 and swapped within 2 minutes.
Thanks for posting this video. My parents are from Pakistan and over there everyone and their grandma owns one of these pistols. I did not know to much about them until now so thanks again for posting.
I have a Tokarev collection, including a Norinco in 7.62x 25 (they were also imported in 9MM and I have a conversion barrel in 9) I also have a M57. Prvi Partizan is now importing hollowpoints, I have a batch of it but haven't shot any yet. I expect good things. These guns are an awesome value, and you can bet your life on their reliability
+ralfis1234 I doubt even a whole mag of 9 rounds would take out a bear. These are fast moving but they are light and FMJ especially wouldn't transfer much energy. IF you got them to penetrate, I really doubt it would make it to the vitals in a bear. Maybe if you hit it in the eye. Doubt it would even penetrate the skull. Love these guns and the cartridge, but I would never carry one of these for bear. Extremely poor choice IMO.
here's some info gleaned from Siberian bear hunt guides, for what it's worth: 7.62x25 Tokarev (30 well documented cases): 21 case where shooting starded from 2 meters: 14 people killed the bear, no injuries, 4 got some injury, 3 died. 9 cases where people shot within 2 meters: 3 died, 2 injured, 4 killed the bear without injury. The biggest bear killed with 7.62x25 was over 630 pounds... 7.62 Nagant (revolver) - 38 well documented cases: 30 started shooting from at least 2 meters: 16 killed the bear without injury, 6 got injury, 8 dead. 8 started shooting withing 2 meters: 2 dead, 4 injured, 2 killed the bear without injury. I should mension that bullet couldn't go through the head and the most effective area was neck and chest. The biggest bear killed was over 480 pounds. 9x18 Makarov (28 well documented cases where 2 cases are from full auto): 2 cases with full auto handgun - no injuries, bear was dead right away. 19 cases from 2 meters: 10 had no injuries, 5 had some injuries, 4 dead. 7 within 2 meters: 3 no injuries, 2 had some injuries, 2 are dead. Biggest bear = over 3 pounds. 9x18 was more effective than Nagant round, but not as good as Tokarev.
I would like to extend a thank you to you for your high-quality and informative video on this unique pistol and caliber. I ordered one this past weekend and I am looking forward to shooting this unique caliber thanks again for your great videos!
Face it - It's a beautiful extremely well built 1911 Hi-Velocity 32 cal with an atrocious trigger. Doesn't balance like FN P35 9m with 3 times the rounds. I'm sure a Russian can sling it just as fast if not faster then an American with Colt 45. Taken it from a Canadian.
hells yeah! I decided on the 7.62 as well. My order just finished getting processed with all the FFL stuff completed. I can't wait. I also decided to pick up a Yugo SKS from SOG :-D Have you heard of converting the Tok into 9mm by switching out the barrel? I managed to find a website that sells them (apparently used but in good condition). If you're interested, I can link you to it. Might be a good idea to have as a back up.
In Pakistan, this weapon has become almost a national symbol, widely available for less than $100. Its presence dates back to the 1980s, when it was first brought over from Afghanistan during the Soviet-Afghan war. Later, Chinese models entered the market, and local manufacturers began producing it in large quantities to meet demand. Recently, however, preferences are shifting as more people are turning to 9mm pistols made by Turkish, American, Chinese, and Russian brands. Local manufacturers have responded by expanding their offerings to include popular models like Glocks, Berettas, and several others, adapting to the evolving market trends.
I have the M70A (9mm). It's a great gun for the price. Now that the M57 & ammo are more readily available, I will have to get one of them. Nice review & vid. Thanks.
2019 me: looks cool guess I’ll buy it... weird caliber though... 2020: Riots, Pandemic, and ammo shortage. 2020 me: Glad I bought this sucker... only pistol I can find ammo for!
Love my M57. Needed a grip sleeve for comfort, but other than that, good to go out of the box. Two ammo notes: The Hirtenberger Austrian ammo is great (if you can find it). Hot and reliable. And you CAN fire Mauser 7.63 out of the Tok. But the Zastava is new, and it takes a lot of breaking-in to get the weak Mauser ammo to cycle properly.
If you live near Atlanta, Adventure Outdoor's would be a good bet or Moss Pawn. Bud's Gun shop will ship one to your local FFL and the price is right. Thanks~
theknob1 Ah, yeah if you're looking for a true Toke you want the 7.62x25. I was more looking at it as just a cheap pistol, possibly a cache gun as sootch mentioned. If I wanted a 7.62x25 Toke I'd probably get a used one as they have Romanian examples for $180. They're probably the new Makarov. I still regret not buying one of those so maybe I really should hop on this deal...
After ten years in Germany with an add on in Kosovo, the music took me back to those wonderful years from 1985-1995, 2000... I need to get this pistol.
I beg to differ, M57 is popular among all licensed holders in Pak. Most underworld in Pak moved from using the locally manufactured cheap Tokarevs to chinese 9mm's lime Norinco CF98. I purchased an M57 in 2011 but till this day it is still new in box, as my daily CW is a 9mm as it offers a safety lock and more capacity.
...and now you just gave a "tool" to a criminal because of your lack of concern. Attitudes like this give credence to gun banners fears. With a gun also comes a responsibility to your community.
I am really annoyed that 7.62x25 isn't more popular, it's such a good round. It has similar energy to 357 magnum in similar barrel lengths. It's 357 sig from 1930!
The energy formula is biased to faster light bullets because it is velocity squared times weight. 9mm has the same energy as 45 auto.
@@keithlarsen7557 x25 kicks ass. try it on most of armors.

It is not on par in terms of energy to .357, not even close, but it does well.

Old school. When you run out of ammo, it becames serious cold weapon :-) Respect for, popular Tetka :-)

I love the tt33 clones. I picked up an old norinco 54-1 in 7.62x25 for 160$ a few years back. It has been my truck gun ever since.
I just ordered one original Soviet made from 1945 no safety no import markings and I paid $169. but I am in Canada. these are awesome guns.
You guys can get some cool stuff up there sometimes, and I guess one of the benefits of having restricted up there is less people are likely to jump on the restricted bandwagon, so there's more handgun surplus to go around. stuff is really drying up down here. luckily it seems zastava is making new M57's (for now)
Yah.we can still get some of cool stuff but we can't get any of the Red Army Standard ammo...love to run that in my new M57

I own 27 different variants of the Tokarev, and love the ballistics of the 7.62x25 I have interchangeable barrels for 9x19, 9x18, and even a .22 lr adaption, of course usable on a certain frame, usually Norinco.

Cheap has nothing to do with quality.
this review made me so happy as I'm planning to get one of these as my first ever pistol. I'm glad its such a nice weapon.

Just bought the m 57.. Absolutely love it
Awesome gun for the money for sure.
@Mr. Roboto good are sound well made pistols. They are a bit rough hewn. But, they are ugly and have it where it counts. A good buy for the money.

You got a vid on how to do that? Hate that mag disconnect 😠...☺️🤣

I can't even leave my glasses or phone in my car and feel right much less a fucking pistol or rifle I paid money for and can be taken out right there and then and kill.
We're not the ones breaking the law and stealing
JPDNINJA I’m with you! Too bad we have so many “Gun Free” zones, that we have to leave our guns unattended! Every time you take your gun out of your holster, is a chance for an accident! My gun goes in, in the morning, & out @ night! I hate leaving my gun in the car!
Really excellent review as always; you are very thorough! I appreciate your reviews of old war and pocket pistols.
In NAM I gave a Chinese version to a navy man for a case of steaks--lol.
Did you mention that the M57 has a 9 round magazine, for which the standard 8 round Tokarev magazines will NOT work. Nice review and good shooting.
The magazines from M57 could be used it russian TT, not otherwise. Also the mags are interchangeable with CZ vzor 52.
The contrasting crazy machining marks only enhance the finishes appeal :)
Grips - I put the "Navy" grips on mine and it fits my smaller thin hands perfectly. They bring up the pistol's point of aim to be perfectly straight for me.
Recoil - With my weaker hands and wrists the caliper feels a little sharp but easy to control vs say a modern a polymer 9mm. Which for me is not comfortable. Highly recommend recoil sensitive peeps give one a try it made me get back into side arms :)
Added bonus - Matching fireballs with your Mosin!
Watching from the UK! Great video, love your style it is a great mix of good facts and your experience. Works really well.
Shame we struggle to have such pistols over here. We are off to Texas next year for some good shooting. We need a fix.
Thanks.
It's nice to see that at least some gun reviews out there have pleasant and unobtrusive background music

Good stuff. It is excellent for defense, turns bone to shrapnel, the JHP rounds beat 9mm hp in damage and the red standard is magnetic ammo, the high velocity steel jacket lead core copper coat ammo can put a car down easily.
it's excellent only for killing. Other handgun rounds (except hottest revolver like .44) leave more chances to person hit with them to live.
As I see it, it doesn't look good in a sleek "tactical" way most people think of but I think it looks good in a rugged kind of way

It's not the price the reason that people buy TT . Is quality . Strong gun. And king for penetration.. 😑
Showing how to grease guns to stash them or some ways to protect from rust while you keep them in your car would be an excellent vid topic :).
ooh, good idea!
Dunk in cosmoline, wrap in wax paper and vacuum seal it in a foodsaver bag.
Thanks a lot! It's the best presentation for TT that I have seen ever! I love hand guns so much!

I dont remember Makarov either,,and military police carried Skorpion 7.65, well some of them did
LOVE the 7.62x25 round!! Thanks for the excellent video.
how much was the surplus? it comes in spam cans, right?

These things have gone way up in price since this video was made, and are hard to find... but man I still want one.

I own one. Bought it while i worked at a surplus store. Its my go to work horse side arm.
Beautiful pistol, I had a different make but it was fantastic.
Thanks for posting this video. My parents are from Pakistan and over there everyone and their grandma owns one of these pistols. I did not know to much about them until now so thanks again for posting.
I want 7.62x25 in a double stack pistol.
Where to get the hollow points for this caliber?
+2628802 Classic Arms had them, last time I checked
Its not gun if it isn't KRAGUJEVAC!
not even Izvhezk?
what?
Too resio si ga
Hey dumbass it's Takarov
Tetejac osvaja ameriku
Just got mine today! I have to say it is with incredible quality and it is brand new!
Brand new or surplus????
@@hammadshabbir2782 It was categorized as surplus by the store, but I feel it was really new when I cleaned the cosmoline!
@@icebluebear its nice. I think zastava make new m57 in 7.62 tokarev. Zastava america is selling new m57 on their website
TT is the real deal! Can kill a freaking bear with it!
+Ian Rupert as per russian statistics its good against brown bear, this projectile penetrate 4 hog skulls in row:-)
+Ian Rupert There was more than few cases were bears were killed with Nagant...compared to which TT is like a cannon.
Not arguing except one point. They do penetrate.
here's some info gleaned from Siberian bear hunt guides, for what it's worth:
7.62x25 Tokarev (30 well documented cases):
21 case where shooting starded from 2 meters: 14 people killed the bear, no injuries, 4 got some injury, 3 died.
9 cases where people shot within 2 meters: 3 died, 2 injured, 4 killed the bear without injury.
The biggest bear killed with 7.62x25 was over 630 pounds...
7.62 Nagant (revolver) - 38 well documented cases:
30 started shooting from at least 2 meters: 16 killed the bear without injury, 6 got injury, 8 dead.
8 started shooting withing 2 meters: 2 dead, 4 injured, 2 killed the bear without injury.
I should mension that bullet couldn't go through the head and the most effective area was neck and chest. The biggest bear killed was over 480 pounds.
9x18 Makarov (28 well documented cases where 2 cases are from full auto):
2 cases with full auto handgun - no injuries, bear was dead right away.
East German helmet....
Like your firearms channel over most others. Well done, and you definitely know what you're doing!
This sounds like a shorter version of NutNFancys review, a lot like it actually....
Tokarev in 9mm has always functioned well for me. You can see the influence from the 1911. It’s an interesting piece.
1903 colt pocket actually
Mia Sue I’m just seeing it now and ma’am I believe you are right
Found one at Southern Ohio Gun for $239.00. Should have it late next week.
that's where im getting my from....im just having trouble deciding if I should go for the 7.62 or the 9mm :-[
I went with the original 7.62.
hells yeah! I decided on the 7.62 as well. My order just finished getting processed with all the FFL stuff completed. I can't wait. I also decided to pick up a Yugo SKS from SOG :-D
Have you heard of converting the Tok into 9mm by switching out the barrel? I managed to find a website that sells them (apparently used but in good condition). If you're interested, I can link you to it. Might be a good idea to have as a back up.
Yes I have. I already have a 9 mm though. I bought a Canik TP9SF earlier this year.
Hey scootch, love the vids! I'm 15 and I am looking to get into a new rifle. Would you suggest I build a PSA ar 15, buy a zastava ak, or buy an sks?
All three are excellent rifles and I own each one, but like comparing apples to oranges.
Thanks!
Go for an AR, you can change almost anything on it that you don't like!
***** you don't need a form in a free state, I'm guessing your in california? thats the only place I can think of where you would need to do that.
Yeah, in Virginia you can pick up any long gun if you're at least 18 years of age. (With a clean record, of course.)
Always a pleasure ,Thanks again. I just got one today
"ZASTAVA" mean flag and I have the same one. Nice pistol believe me
Whats the difference between the words zastava and barjak?

+Jack Turnbull nope but i heard of oz
hmmm no it doesnt,, you are the only hater here actually, this is one of the most reliable handguns on the market with regards to military surplus
Jack Turnbull what caliber was it?
7.62
I have the M70A (9mm). It's a great gun for the price. Now that the M57 & ammo are more readily available, I will have to get one of them. Nice review & vid. Thanks.
2019 me: looks cool guess I’ll buy it... weird caliber though...
2020: Riots, Pandemic, and ammo shortage.
2020 me: Glad I bought this sucker... only pistol I can find ammo for!
.40 S&W might also see a rise in popularity.
Where can I get one of these in Georgia Sootch00? I have been wanting to pick up a Tokarev type pistol and I really like your review of the M57.
If you live near Atlanta, Adventure Outdoor's would be a good bet or Moss Pawn. Bud's Gun shop will ship one to your local FFL and the price is right. Thanks~
I checked and Classic Fire Arms here in Macon deals with Century fire arms. Thanks.
J&G Sales has newly manufactured Tokes in 9mm for $200 right now.
I'm thinking about getting one.
theknob1 Ah, yeah if you're looking for a true Toke you want the 7.62x25.
+CVObservatory I dunno but in Serbia you can buy one on a farmer's market.
After ten years in Germany with an add on in Kosovo, the music took me back to those wonderful years from 1985-1995, 2000... I need to get this pistol.
Military?
thebes1 US Army
Cool. I was in the Air Force back then. Mostly in Asia. Philippines, Korea, Okinawa during Gulf War.
thebes1 during the Gulf War I was filling sandbags in Heidelberg Germany... no flags or parades for me, haha
Just a little correction. Its popular in Pakistan's underworld
serioushamster in Sweden underground also
I beg to differ, M57 is popular among all licensed holders in Pak. Most underworld in Pak moved from using the locally manufactured cheap Tokarevs to chinese 9mm's lime Norinco CF98. I purchased an M57 in 2011 but till this day it is still new in box, as my daily CW is a 9mm as it offers a safety lock and more capacity.
This is my first pistol. No safety no import markings and yes many mags. Just pure M57.
If my Glock got stolen I wouldn't consider that a huge loss either. It is just a tool to me.
Well nobody really likes a glock, they just own them. Kind of like muck boots
...and now you just gave a "tool" to a criminal because of your lack of concern. Attitudes like this give credence to gun banners fears. With a gun also comes a responsibility to your community.
Just got myself a 1941 TT33 with matching serials for only 250 bucks! Best christmas gift to myself ever, can't wait to shoot it!
