"Shelia Stubbs made history in August when she won the Democratic primary for a state Assembly seat in Wisconsin’s 77th District. A 12-year veteran of the Dane County Board of Supervisors running unopposed in the general election, Stubbs will become the first African American to represent the district, which spans some of the poorest and wealthiest areas in Madison.
Days before her victory, though, while canvassing in her district, a police officer approached Stubbs in response to an unidentified man’s complaint that Stubbs, who was with her 71-year-old mother and 8-year-old daughter, might be in the neighborhood to buy drugs.
According to a police report obtained by Madison’s Capital Times and BuzzFeed, the man called police on August 7 to complain about a “suspicious vehicle.” The report cited a police dispatch in which the caller suggested that the vehicle, which was occupied by Stubbs’s mother and daughter, was “waiting for drugs at the local drug house.”

My mother lives in the neighborhood and reported them repeatedly for drug drops, dogs barking in the middle of the night and loose without the owner, and on a few occasions an intoxicated gentleman walked out of the house and waved a gun around. We're talking about a street where there haven't been shots fired on the record, ever. They were found for years of property tax evasion in July and told to leave by the end of August, they were still around into October of course. But the drugs and other problems are consistent and you're very perceptive to check that they're being investigated.

Finally an old lady let two of them in while the third one went around to the back of the house looking at things. When the cops came back to me to tell me what he found out he said that the old lady allowed inside two people to use the telephone. They were asking for people to let them in to use the telephone. I found out later that they're known drug addicts. Also a week later all the cars and a few the houses in our neighborhood got broken into. Including my car.

I was one of the few black families in my town growing up. I went to a private school for 1st through 5th grade and we had fundraisers to help kids get cheaper tuition. They had us going door to door selling candy in our uniforms. After my first day, the police came to my house and told my parents they were getting too many calls about me and they wanted me to stop. From then on my parents would just donate the amount as if I sold all of the candy.
As I got older I moved to the public school in my neighborhood and got stopped by the police a lot for being suspicious or things like neighbors were upset because I rode my bike too close to their driveway and they would always incredulously ask if I lived in the house that sells candy. Not remembering what happened, I would just stand there trying to figure it out while they looked through their computer and tried to come up with more questions for me. Then one day it just clicked...

Everyone knew there were drugs, including the cops that I spoke to when their pitbull named "bitch" was running loose. A different neighbor called the police because my cousin's car was parked in front of my house and near the drug house for a few weeks after she died. The neighbor thought the car was suspicious. No one wanted to talk to the family in the drug house, because the boyfriend was crazy. Unfortunately, the police didn't have enough to arrest them. All of the people in my story are white. I think there are plenty of stories where people call the police just because someone is black. However, I wouldn't assume the call *was* or *was* *not* racially motivated in this situation.

OK now realizing that the daughter and mother, a 71 year old, were visibly in the car that makes all the difference in the world.
That caller did not look at that black woman as a grandmother. He looked at her as a Black face, that’s all. WP do not see the humanity in BP …. They don’t see children siblings, cousins grandparents all they see is a black face. It’s the disconnect that I just don’t understand.
I’m still haunted by the case where this grandmother, who had her shoulder dislocated, was thrown to the ground and handcuffed, for Nothing. She did nothing wrong.
That police officer obviously did not see his mother, grandmother, aunt, or any sort of humanity in that woman … it’s disgusting 😡

Exactly. It seems quite drastic to call 911 when you see someone walk door to door. There's a million other reasons for that behaviour than selling drugs, all more probable. In my neighbourhood, we got quite a lot of people ringing the doorbell. Usually it's kids who wants to sell stuff for their next school trip. It can also be Jehovah's Witnesses trying their best to save a wretched atheist's soul like mine. :)

I disagree that the cop did the right thing. The cops can be called but there was no crime that allows the cop to ask for anything from them. The cop should pull up, visually investigate, they see nothing wrong and close the case. That's called investigative police work. Stop calling the police and police need to be trained on how to investigate without harassing people.
