    Thank you! I used to wipe my walls with soapy water and it wouldn’t come off of the stud areas. Everyone said it’s because I must light candles, but I don’t regularly light candles. There are rooms that’s I’ve never had candles in and were so stained. I truly appreciate your video!!!!

    I hope he's getting paid handsomely for all that labor!!
    I didn't clean, but just painted my bathroom ceiling with a paint roller and it was a very small area, but my neck and shoulders were so sore I swore I'd never do it again, so I look at the size of that room, and the blackened vaulted ceiling, and think, boy, is this guy a trooper...and a good sport!

    Thanks! I bought a camper from a guy who smoked in it (among other things) and this worked really good! I love simple green. Back when I used to have race cars it was the only thing I could use to clean the engines and the tire crud off. I would spread down let it sit for 10 minutes then power wash and like new again

    This works great. Yep. There is some elbow grease that goes into it. I used white rags and let them dry to try and save on cost. I also tried to repaint before cleaning and the soot bleed through the Killz paint I used. Great video and remember apply your own technique after seeing this.

    I followed your instructions on a ceiling and walls much worse than what you have and it worked well! This was from a grease fire that was put out with water and it covered the ceiling with billowing smoke and then it went down the walls. We really did not think it was going to work because we first tried Spray 9 which usually works better than other degreasers and it did not do a thing it just swirled the soot around. We did not use paper towels though because they came apart on the walls , we used streak free microfiber cloths.Thank you so much!

    Tried TSP and sugar soap (didn't know they were the same thing) and they did not work at all.... Glad it's working for you... I did not have to repaint at all, yes there was a little paint displacement but nothing that was noticeable, I guess it could be different for you depending on paint used to begin with, I also tried without simple green product but found using it was easier and gave me a better result (something to help breakdown the greasy residue). if you are finding you don't need simple green that's great, save some money on product and just use the magic sponges with warm water.

    this will only work if you do the entire ceiling.
    for local smoke damage. you either have to clean the entire ceiling. or just repaint.
    (otherwise you get a whiter clean spot where your smoke damage used to be)

    • @MelissaCouch
      @MelissaCouch 2 роки тому +5

      @@SunnyKumar-hf8ui It went very well but with a 1500 foot house, it was an enormous project. I used a few boxes of TSP, dozens of magic erasers, and then coated all the walls, doors, baseboards, and ceiling with Killz paint, then did a regular paint with primer over that. The smell and smoky look was gone after that. But with all those steps it took me and a few other people two months to complete the project. But we scrubbed every surface by hand, and we were very thorough. Some areas we even scrubbed more than once because it was so bad.

    never EVER paint over smoke/soot damaged ceiling. The paint will start to flake and peel within just a few months if not weeks. no matter what primer you use. the only way is to CLEAN it thorougly first and then consider an oil sealer before you even think about that first coat of primer. or consult a professional fire restoration to find out how they do it

    • @preferredstock9338
      @preferredstock9338 7 років тому +1

      michael bone You're probably right. Some Kiwis who have lived in Australia for a while tend to slowly lose their accent, but maybe you sussed out a hint of kiwi that I didn't. Well I posted this comment months ago and got everything cleaned. Used to smoke cigarettes in my room which was a disgusting/unhealthy habit so it stained all my walls and ceiling. Now with a good scrub and 3 new coats of paint, it smells great and I'm currently on the patches to quit.
      Just a tip if you haven't done so already, I found sugar soap to be much weaker than white vinegar. I actually ended up using more vinegar with hot water to rid stubborn stains. If you're looking at repainting then look no further than "Zinsser cover stain primer". That stuff is extremely adhesive and strong. Your stains will never come back through the new paint. Be careful not to get this primer onto concrete as it will most likely stay there for years. I even tried power spraying my driveway but to no avail. Good luck mate!

    • @jhonjohnjonjondoe5011
      @jhonjohnjonjondoe5011 7 років тому

      Preferred Stock try using purple power it is a very strong de greaser made for cars. It is known for doing some crazy damage and is cheap. it might get that off the concrete. It is used to clean engines from oil and whatever else sits there for years. the hotter you get the concrete the more effective purple power will be. Imo I would dump quite a bit of boiling water on it and go straight to work. let me know if you try it and how it works.

You then have to wash the walls to eliminate the actual odor. There will still be loose particles which can enter your respiratory system so you should wear a mask and safety glasses.

But I’m not saying it will work. I don’t know that for sure. It’s just a better bet. Of course, painting is always 90% preparation, 10% painting.

    Anytime you spray with a solution you are setting the soot into the paint and drywall. You MUST remove with a chem sponge and hepa vacuum first. Just let a restoration company do it right the first time.

    This is so damn funny using a little spray bottle to spray the whole house. Why don't you use a bug and garden sprayer with a lot of chemical instead of stupid little bottles

      @@tashie6288 wrong you just control the amount of water being sprayed and it takes practice

      Yes, use and OIL BASED 123 bulls eye zinsser primer or OIL BASED kilz. Can't remember which one so test test one on a quick spot. I believe it was kilz. Then paint over like normal.

      I think you can buy an 8 dollar spray can to test with. My dad and I have used both primers in latex as well, but one or possibly both OIL BASED PRIMERS work. maybe just the patrolieum base that's covering up the stain.

      For grease fires the best cleaner I've ever used is a product called gene made by chlorogene in petone...I also use my wallpaper steamer .turn it on so the room is nice and streamy and first use just water.2towel one wet one dry...then the second time...spray gene on.thinned 20/1 and wipe with a clean cloth...it came out brilliantly...just 2litres did the whole house...a 10dollars investment....far exceeds any other product
