Cool. Love Bruce Hornsby. Came out of nowhere in 1986 & was a breath of fresh air. Love those 1st 3 albums especially. The Way It Is, Scenes From The Southside & A Night On The Town.

To see and hear Bruce and Jerry on stage, smiles abound, playing back n' forth while lifting each other up to space and places they didn't know they could go. Amazing. I believe I saw Bruce with the Dead 20 odd times and when you saw his grand piano sitting there stage left, you knew it was going to be perhaps more interesting than other nights. That summer 1995 RFK show he was speaking of where he sat in on was an off show to be honest.
Bruce did not partake in drugs like everyone in the Grateful Dead band, crew, helpers etc did...heavily, and sometimes that would frustrate Bruce as far as seeing talent take a back seat to getting high on hard drugs; hence him saying no to a full-time contract to play with the Dead. He knew the situation and he would rather write ,play and tour with his own music which he excelled at. Peace to all.

Everything considered, I love Bruce’s work with the Dead. He was such a great fit and brought his own sort of southern flair, really fit in well with what Jerry considered the Dead to be; “folk rock with country and western overtones” his words

RIP Jerry. Wish he could’ve stuck around for quite awhile longer than he did.
