I come back to this video every now and again, and it never fails to encapsulate me. This song puts me in the GROOVIEST of grooves, and the happiest of moods. Love this shit.
Evan! Thank you for teaching me to do all of this! I still play with these techniques you taught me so many years ago, over 20 yrs now :) and it has helped me act like I know what I’m doing ;)
They were in the same band, Reflux(which the vocalist of that band, Ash Avildson, went on to create sumerian records)Also, Evan Brewer was a student of Victor Wooten, I believe he even lived with him for a while.
I watched The Faceless play a few nights ago....It was great! Evan is one of my fav bass players, and holds a major influence on my bass style. So the best part about that night, was that I finally got to meet one of my idols! I was just chilling outside drinkin a beer after their set....and bam! He waled outside. So we talked for about ten minutes, slap bass, victor wooten, blah blah blah. He is one great guy and a humble musician. I'm glad I got the chance to meet him and the rest of the band.
Damn i use to be player for 7 years now, after beating flea, les claypool, victor wooten, marcus miller, and jaco pastorius, even the bassist from scale de summit, and this is blowing my mind i don't even understand how this is possible...
I've played guitar and listened to crazy prog rock and metal my whole life and i still cant figure out why this thumb technique makes it sound like 4 notes per second.
I've been trying to do the same thing for a couple years now... solo stuff...... Man, for all of this to come from one mind.... amazing. You go, Brewer.
Okay how come one-one's mentioned the bit at 2:01. I thought I was going crazy trying to understand how he's playing it, but it's looping the previous section underneath what he's actually playing. Was this added in post recording or was it achieved using a looping machine? This is amazing bass playing by the way, I am just interested in how he did that. Thanks.
@@jlobjlobovich6664 Oh shit awesome finally I never knew he saw it eventually. Still couldn't do it like Evan that dude has some crazy long fingers though and that will make a ton of difference.
Dude you are fantastic!! All of the faceless members are just beyond talented! You're my favorite bass player. That style of playing just blows my mind
Dudes got those long linky ass alien arms and fingers. You can't tell me there is not an advantage with these physical attributes. Nonetheless, still a great bassist.
Ohhh faaaak finally found this video ACTUALIZE ,,,, Rename this as ACTUALIZE ,,,,,Does DAVIE504 know about this song ,,,,,,,,let me share this video to him cuz he keeps asking for some challenging stuff ,,, THIS is HEAVENLY stuff
When did he do a video on him and please can some one tell me the name of the video. Dude Evan is ridiculous - anyone who didnt know the video is from 6 months ago ( checkmate videos) and it doesnt sound as good but still Jared dines isn't the greatest and I love him it's about the memes.
Correct Regi is his mentor. Here's a video of him playing with Regi, Vic's brother, IMO best guitar player in the world: ua-cam.com/video/fcmacoH2vg0/v-deo.html Sorry about the shakiness but I was drunk recording that 1 handed with a cellphone above my head.
I saw him live about a year ago. I've been to a lot of shows, but that one in particular was amazing. He played with Animals as Leaders and a few other bands.
One word : AMAZING .. You're one of the best bass player I've ever seen .. Can't wait for your solo album .. that's gonna be pure sickness and eargasm .. Keep on posting more vidz :)
Send a cd out to me in Australia when you've finished the project!! =D Slap isn't my thing but I love to watch people get into it! Keep up the good work.
God, i need to buy a bass again. dropped it in my early years of playing to pick up guitar. if only i had known you could do this with a bass when i was 11 :P
I hereby certify this video as a classic.
10 years have passed and this song is still so good
2024! Revisiting this classic 🫡 forgot how good this was

Well said!
Half of the enjoyment comes from seeing how much you can tell this guy loves what he's doing. Awesome stuff, Evan!
How have I never heard of even brewer? This guy's a beast
x2
Dude you just literally reinvented bass... YOU are a god amongst men...
Nice lol, the techniques seem to be Victor wooten inspired though 🥲
@@selfactualizer2099 he was a student of regi wooten.

i love how percussive the bass is. it sounds like there is a snare in the room reacting to the amp. there might actually be who knows haha
Nah it's plucking really hard, he's got fresh strings to which adds to that clangy "snare" sound
I never get tired of this video. Evan is a talented man.
I'm not usually a fan of slapping in general, it just doesn't grab my attention for the most part. But this, right here, is truly amazing.
Well he's not just slapping, he's double thumbing, plucking, he's using all the techniques
Seeing him preform this live was one of the most amazing things I've ever seen!
Met this guy in Tampa after the Black Dahlia Murder show. Hes a super chill dude.
Ahh man Evan Brewer and TBDM in one room! I would go deaf for that.
Alien fingers! This piece made me fall in love with your stuff Evan
the twang of fresh strings!
I seriously can't get enough of this video. It's so good!! I love the sound of it so much.
This makes me so motivated to play, mind blowing
Evan !! Dude, that was KILLER ! Great chops, great tone, nice melody.Gives me something new to shoot for. ROCK ON !!!

Damn, this thoroughly popped a few of my brain cells…absolutely masterful and beautiful.
Yes this is the dude that taught the “Wooten Thumb method” to Tosin Abasi
Talented fella..
No shit? Did he really?

I still have his Alone t shirt in mint condition. Wore it a few times but it just chills in a frame on my wall now. Has been there for years.

What do you mean beating? You might be able to play their stuff, but no one can beat a musician at their own style they created.
Yeh i should say "getting to their level" that's the idea in fact
Sven vids or didnt happen
What a stupid comment.
can you like... prove it? or something? because you sound full of shit.
Yeah man, represent nashville bass players!!!!!!
Evan I am oh so proud of you.
Finally showing these guys how's its done

Im certain it would be a loop machine, looks as if he hits a pedal at that time.
probably a pedal, I think whats more impressive is that lean @ 1:50
no fucking duh its a looper pedal, no one mentioned it because it's obvious
Looper pedal.
iv watched this at least 15 times today i downloaded it, its fun to mess around to on drums man good job
