The game plot is a dark mystery playing out mostly in hell, but the gameplay itself is basically a horror-themed first person perspective pacman - trying to pick up all the soul shards and get out before murder monkeys / murder clowns / rollerskating nurses speaking in the voice of Twilight Sparkle get you.

So Dark Deception's Premise is basically, you're a sinner going to hell until you're stopped by another sinner, Bierce. Though she is more powerful and wants to overthrow Malak (Satan) after making a deal with him that she regrets. She fishes out lost souls like you to do her dirty work for her. The first level is "Monkey Business" a hotel where all serial killers sit in hell, they become these bellhops with knives for hands and sharp teeth, endlessly wandering through these wretched halls waiting for fresh prey. There's a unique variant of these bellhops creatively called "Chef Monkey" instead of knives he has pizza cutters. Implying that this sinner was once a cannibal back in the living world. But damn, are those good pizzas, customer service may be poor but the food is good, even though it might get somewhat messy,
8/10 would recommend

The song itself is good fun (a given from Stupes) but I admit, I burst out laughing when I saw you turn up as a ghost in the bar. Feels good to see you two working together (and here's hoping for a full collaboration song in the future).

15:09 Oh, and about using the comma and period, those don't do it faster, they let you go frame by frame. Whoever told you it was faster was clearly misinformed.
also, shift+comma/period alters the playback speed.

Another thing that I noticed is that they use slant rhyme incredibly well.
if i'm not wrong the character from the line: "five star never a survivor" is the same one from the begginnig where the hand was dismanteled

I'm so glad you finally reacted to Stupendium's new song! Also, mad respect for you, mate- The fact that you rewind the video every time you unpause the video just to make sure you don't miss anything is just worthy of all the respect in the world lmao
Well since everyone else is recommending dark deception, I'll talk about a hat in time. Personally, I love it. It controls smoothly, the characters are really fun, the world's are very creative, the soundtracks a bop, and the comedy is great. It can be a little janky sometimes, but it also an indie 3d platformer. All in all, I absolutely recommend it. RE did a good job with a song about the two main characters, but there's a whole ton of stuff in the middle that they didn't even mention.
UA-cam controls are pretty simple
Left and Right arrow keys skip 5 seconds
J and L keys skip 10 seconds
Just the , and . keys when paused go through each frame
< and > keys (Shift + , or .) change the playback speed
Shift + N or P are for playlist traversal
K is for pause/play, F is for full screen, C is for captions
The spacebar only "clicks" the selected item, so if the settings are highlighted they'll pop up if you press the spacebar

Edit: Also if you plan on playing it be sure to pack your big boy undies. There’s no jump scares but the game does a great job of scaring the shit out of you.

Everyone talking about Dark Deception yet nobody is paying a bit of focus to A Hat in Time. Extremely underrated game, and the song is epic af
I just finished it a few days ago, and while I know that to most people I’m just a few words of text on a screen, but honestly, I can genuinely say it’s some of the most fun I’ve ever had.
Every part of it is just a joy to play.
Ill have to thank you for introducing me to stupendium

Perhaps you were eliminated in the hotel
One last thing, id like updates, if you are playing it
Monkey Business is the 1st level in Dark Deception, each level has different themes and villains and the ballroom, briefly seen and referenced acts as the hub with all of the levels being different portals
But Stupes being Stupes, managed to make a whole song by building upon the premise of the first level
the phrase "he's a jack of all tradesmen" immediately took my mind to "room for improvement" by stupendium. that was perfect lmfao
I'm gonna tell you something just so things tie in. In Dark Deception, you're going through the levels to collect pieces of a ring called "The Riddle of Heaven". That's why he added the riddle part.
And now we wait for Stupe's 4th Installment of his Horror Holiday series of songs 😂 Great reaction as always Ian! You certainly find a way to keep my spirits up...heh.

Is a reference to the sign you see at the beginning of the level

When stupes eyes go red in the game it’s reminiscent of “Rage mode” where once you collect all the soul shards all the enemies on the map change into a darker version (with red and black being the main colors) where their now faster and are more hectic trying to get you and their eyes in this state (if they have them) tend to glow red it’s basically them throwing one last all out attempt to kill you before you escape
I got so happy seeing your name on the credits I watched your videos for a while now and I truly hope more people can see your work

I don't pay as much attention as I should when watching Stupes' vids - all that hard work is wasted on me, sadly - so I didn't remotely register that you made a cameo. That's really cool.
i only discovered the game after the video came out, but up to now only episode 4 has come out
dont know how many episodes will come out eventually but I am hopeful for songs on different episodes and about the conflict about the demon in the game, the woman that wants to control him and supposedly a lot of backstory is hidden throughout the game so that might be included
So Ian, was at work just toiling away when a thought occured. You have a odd story going on in stupendium's videos. (Back for blood) "Ian went insane" but you must have known something that someone was scared you may let slip in your insanity, so they hired 47 to take you out before that happens (the apex). And now your a visitor of the hell hotel.... Interesting, maybe you'll show up in a vid that will leak that secret 🤔

You should check out Tally Hall, most of their songs have a lot of comedic elements, but I wouldn’t call them comedy musicians. They just have some of the best songs I have ever listened to.
Some friends of mine just released one of their most popular albums on vinyl recently. They run the label Needlejuice Records.

The end of the song mentions a 'stay of execution'
The reference should be about staying at a hotel with danger of geting executed.
Literally a stay of execution is a court order to not execute a court judgment.
But my interpretation of "enjoying your stay of execution" is avoiding execution because you didnt get caught
like Ian said, a "stay of execution" is a delay in execution, it's not a declaration that someone isn't going to be executed. so "enjoy your stay of execution" literally means "enjoy the extra time you got before your execution". it's literally a taunt referring to how you're still going to be executed despite the delay.
@@olivinator k so i should have specified i knew it was a suspended court order, not a pardon. Also stay of execution doesnt necesary refer to death penalty
@@joe_rival yeah, the "order to not execute" bit is a bit misleading, and makes it sound like you're saying that the sentence will absolutely not be carried out.

I would call it more "deliberate" rather than "wrong".

You might like Aaron Frazer-Nash. He does songs that are both proper songs and parody. They're all ......sings a song. He sings in the voices of the characters. He's a amazing singer and impressionist. They're very funny. He has many collaboraters. If he can't do the voice himself, etc. He used to use parodies of existing songs. But not he does all his own songs.
He has a animated spokesman now.
For another couple videos to catch, Random Encounters did two Bendy comedy songs themselves: animated (in different ways), with MatPat taking on the role of Bendy.
I'll probably check those out after the stream, considering I'll be doing the game AND three songs then 😅

In one of the levels of dark deception there's essentially weeping angels that are gold statues... you let your greed take over they activate.... and to leave you need to take something specific and then survive as you make your way through the now maze like mansion and struggling to survive the gold George Washington weeping angels.

The comma is working, it's going back one frame at a time, you can see if you look close but it's really slow.
The comma goes back by one frame in the video, press and hold and it'll scroll back slowly.
I watched the music video like 15 times when lisening to it and I never Recognised you between the ghosts!

Something that wasn't mentioned was the continuity in the video - the person that the mangled corpse used to be shows up on TrapAdvisor (which is another neat, amusing twist). At least, that's what I'm inferring from the clothing. He was right, though - never a survivor!

So because YT is weird... You have the left and right arrow keys for going back and forward in the video 5 seconds but you also have J, K & L which go back 10 seconds, pause/play and go forward 10 seconds respectively.

You should know the bassic story of the game by now and I think you should play it now when you die you don't lose all your soul shards unless you click restart also the first level is called monkey business so that's why it's part of the coruse

Also, you should seriously consider checking out Stupes' Frostpunk rap, "Shelter from the Storm". It's probably the last of his older videos that doesn't require too much game knowledge to enjoy (as opposed to all the Bendy and the Ink Machine songs) while also somewhat fitting the brand of this channel. If you do ever a video reacting to post-apocalyptic songs, I'd definitely put it on the list.
I was always told that those Frostpunk songs were decidedly NOT comedy, so I never really considered them for here once I learned that. Wouldn't really fit here, as I try to keep to comedy primarily. Thanks tho!
@@Insaneian, You say that, but I don't think it really holds up. You're right that it's not comedy per se, but after covering so many songs that I also wouldn't consider comedic (most of his horror songs, the creepy songs, and most of the social commentary songs), it seems like a weird line to draw. This song is also clever in accessibly nerdy ways, that you could appreciate it in the reaction format.
I just don't think the branding of "reacting to comedy music" has been consistent enough to be so firm on this one video, so it's just a little frustrating for it to seem so arbitrary.
I probably just have a different sense of humor, but because I find it frustrating, I wanted to say something about it. It's fine, and I still enjoy your content. Cheers.
@@El_Rey_247 I get and totally respect that, but keep in mind that the songs I reacted to that didn't fall under the "comedy song" heading were *expected* to be comedy songs before the reaction. If I know going into things ahead of time that it doesn't fit my criteria for my show, I'm not likely to react to it then. Stupes already told me that the Frostpunk songs (and his RDR2 track) are decidedly non-comedic, so since I know that going in, they won't fit my format.
My main goal here is to react to comedy songs from the perspective of a fellow comedy musician. If the song isn't comedic then I don't really have much to say about it from that perspective, and any *other* perspective I'd be reacting from would be against the point of my show. Sorry.
@@Insaneian, I can't speak for the rest of your viewers, obviously, but I personally enjoy insights and interpretations in the reaction videos that I watch, and a completely blind reaction isn't my number one priority. If you want to shore up your brand by vetting videos until the first punchline or hint of comedy, I would absolutely support that. You don't have to, and I enjoy your videos either way. Just letting you know that it's an option, and it might help you avoid the apparent discomfort you have publicly reacting to less-comedic music.
I could listen to this man review Rebecca Black’s Friday, and I’d still watch happily.

I would point out the No Escape rule and the plasmid but you've seen to many videos of Stupendium and you've learned to pay attention to the background, you are four parallel universes ahead of me
Now I can't help but wonder... is the scene in 14:09 a reference to something... it looks very similar to Bendy's first jumpscare and it also looks similar to a part of the vent chace in Poppy playtime... (also I am pretty sure that some of the other faces in 13:30 ish are reference to something the one the left specifically seems very familiar).
Not sure if you’ve already heard it but I would absolutely love if you went back and reacted to Stupendium‘s “A Matter of Factories” it has a delightfully cynical sense of humor.

When you play bendy and the ink machine on stream, you should probably play until chapter 4. As far as I know his songs never reference the fifth chapter of the game.
