the "pal of mine" is a reference to the pencils (palomine) walt disney's crew used to draw. there's another reference to that pencil in find the keys: "hush little sheep, come meet a pal of mine with black wings"
I really like the “Should have headed for the BREAD LINES, never ever meddled with a pencil lead and BRED LINES” from the Monkey in the Butcher Gang.
Bread lines probably referring to the long lines designated for free food given by government or charity to the poor.
It’s a fantastic flip that STAYED in my head from the first time I heard it when it came out.
yeah the story of the game shows that henry made the characters during the great depression. so the only other option other than working were the bread lines
You can tell that Stupendium has a background as an animator. Both with the video itself of course, but who else would make references to multiplanes in their song.
Also the line stationary should be stationary is inspired.
This whole music video is a simulated long take, it never cuts. Whenever it moves to a new scene, it's always with a whip pan. This really helps the song's slightly dreamlike sense of flow. And is also just a really cool animation flex.
the amusing thing to me is that during the bertrum segment, you were saying all those references, but the more straightforward connections are that wurlitzers and helter-skelters and waltzers are found on fairgrounds as various rides
Fisher having black spots is also a reference to a pirate being marked for death I believe
Edit: I also wouldn’t put it past stupendium for the “keys” to be referring to keyframes
this was actually my first stupendium song (if memory serves)!!! i still love everything about it, specifically the voices. i actually thought stupes was american because of how convincing the accent was!
20:30 The animation with the train on one of the screens is a reference to find the keys where Boris plays trumpet in the tender/coal car while bendy is driving.
Black spots is also in reference to the Black Spot pirates used to mark someones impending death. Whether this was a real thing pirates did or it's more just stereotyped from Pirates of the Caribbean i'm not sure but either way it works because of the fisherman and pirate connection, especially with the voice given to the Fisherman.
It certainly pre-dates Pirates of the Carribean: it's used multiple times in Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson (1883)
Yes, it was a real thing from history.
You are confusing Nostradamus with Nosferatu, the former is the man who made predictions, and the latter being the Latin word for Vampire. While rostrum means a raised platform for giving speeches or preforming, i.e. a stage.
Yeah, I realize that later...oops 😅
I've always thought NOSferatu's rosTRUM also refers to "nostrum", a medicinal mixture (typically one that's ineffective, i.e., snake oil).
You all forgot that rostrum is a zoological term.
Basically butterfly and mosquitoes sting/straw.
Stupendium's skills are out of this world. You may call him an 'Animartion'. He really does 'paint' a picture of the whole story by 'l-Ink-ing' all the pieces together. Your analysis and 'breakdowns' are always well put. Keep 'piping' out this great content Ian. Cant wait to hear more of your 'merry melodies'!
So since I didn't see anyone mention this in either the comments or the video (I could have missed it), I just thought I should say that in the UK a Helter-skleter is a tall spiral slide winding around a tower at a fair. P.S.: I enjoyed the heck out of this react video.
Stupes is one of the best animators that i've seen and you one of the best reactors
A spanner and a wrench apparently mean different things in the UK. A spanner is a fixed-profile tool which fits or removes a fastening by turning a nut or bolt, and a wrench turns non-fastening components such as pipes. Edit: I only saw that someone mentions it in the video a few seconds after I unpaused it after writing this comment.
I adore how many "art"s and whatnots there are in the chorus:
... So you're on the path of the stARVing ARTist / Well at the heART, well the ART is heARTless / ever seen a masterpiece get discARDed / stART and depART for the ART of dARKness ...
It's SO cool!
I love the Striker's verse, because of the multiple hits internally in the last line. It's one of my favourite songs of all of Stupendium's work.
I saw you do this live! Art of Darkness has to be one of my favorites, so I'm really glad you did a reaction of it! Congrats on 12k too!
The wurlitzer, waltzer and the helter skelter were also fairground attractions...
nosfaratu is a version of Dracula created by a production company that wanted to make a dracula movie but couldnt get the rights to actualy use big D, so they made there own even creepier version. you were thinking of nostradamus.
Yes, I know, the chat corrected me and I make that realization later.
Him using the term Helter skelter is also a joke to the fact that its an old kind of fair ride that was a spiral slide
14:30 On the topic of worlitzer, its also a pun on ''well its a''
as in ''well its a shame that your organs and limbs...''
Didn't I say that?
@@Insaneian maybe I just didnt catch it. You might have implied tho, but didnt say it out loud.
@@crystallkingh3048 entirely possible 😅
No one mentions how you can see the Ink Demon behind Alice Angel in the scene where she grows wings
Wurlitzer made Theater Organs to provide soundtracks and sound effects for silent pictures.
The largest one is at Organ Stop Pizza, which I got to go see when my sister got married!
The only line that I saw you missed and didn't get addressed later in the video or by my quick check of the comment section was,
"Heigh ho! It's off to work we go." The Seven Dwarves sing this song in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the first theatrical movie actually released by Disney.
I love your channel keep up the great stuff
'Guess you'd say that I'm a player' Henry is who we play as.
Wurlitzer, Waltzer and Helter-Skelter are also the names of fairground rides.
I'd like to mention the puns used for betrums segment were also names for fair ground ride, downward spiral being one of those tower slides also known as the the helterskelter
Also Wurlitzer and waltzer are different names for the same ride
A in-game enemies, they're Piper, Fisher and Striker.
Their cartoon selves are Charley, Barley and Edgar.
speaking of disney, have you ever done a little heart? Stupendium's kingdom hearts song?
Not yet. It hasn't yet won the Patreon poll.
im pretty sure that the rorshach was meant to represent the ink demon looming over the throne
8:47 oh my God “thirst to quench” Fisher oh my God
I'd be quite happy to see the Find The Keys remake! It sounds way better with Stupes' nowaday quality
I already reacted to Find The Keys and since there's no new changes to the audio or video (other than fidelity and quality improvements) I wouldn't have anything new to say. Sorry!
I love you music and reaction videos. If I may suggest a musician you should react to next, you should react to Jazz Emu. My personal favorite one of his songs is Funkbot 10000.
Thanks! It's definitely on the list! I reacted to Jazz Emu's "Light Tough" a few weeks ago, too!
I am so sad i couldnt be with the stream, i had exams
'Astound at the scoundrel crowd you've DRAWN.'
Stupendium is too good at wordplay.
Slide Into the Void when?
Whenever it wins the Patreon poll!
He missed the joke about being a player. It wasn't just player as in good with girls, but also player as in a playable video game character.
technically Plane crazy was the first Mickey cartoon, but Steamboat Willie was the first public one
You paused a lot more than normal, and yet the video is somehow shorter than most of your other reactions lmao
Have you ever listened to jelly donut juicer?
I can't say that I have.
@@Insaneian it's a weird one, it's a combo from the cog is dead and the steam powered giraffe
@@kizukun001 oh wow!
...but is it comedy?
@@Insaneian hmm fair question it's been a bit since I listened to it, it has kinda a carnival vibe, silly mostly, but that much could be derived from the title.
19:25 Wasnt Nosferatu a vampire and you meant Nostradamus, right? ^^
I correct it (or rather get corrected) later, heh
What's scary about a library? Dood, watch Page Master
When your the newest comment on 3 weeks: **my profile picture**
There is something painful about how confidently he describes Nostradamus while trying to explain what Nosferatu is... I feel bad for you. That is not going away quickly.
Thankfully I get corrected about it right after it, so no huge biggie, I just read/heard the name wrong. 😅
@@Insaneian I noticed and I figured it was something like that. Misheard/misread and/or just had a brain fart about who was being talked about .Still I feel like that's a shame that won't be easily lived down. I love your stuff btw.
@@facelessbastard1850 one thing about me is I usually tend to embrace things that I supposedly "can't live down"...my song "Shut Up, Ian" is evidence of that 😅
@@Insaneian That's a good way to live your life. Good on you.
dude, you confused nosferatu with nostradamus kkkkkk well, it happens. Nosferatu is a vampire movie, kind of a dracula rip off. Rostrum is a plataform where people can publicly speak
Keep watching, I realize that moments later when chat tells me.
