- We have been having a black Melanistic Mutant Pheasant hanging around our place. Something I have never seen. I wanted to become friends with our chickens but they were not to welcoming.

About Life In Farmland: Our family strives to be as self-sufficient as we can be. We grow a lot of food in the garden, raise or hunt for our meat, cut and use firewood to heat our house in the cold Minnesota winters. We want to know where our food comes from, what goes into it. We strive to live a slower and sustainable lifestyle with family being our first priority. On this channel, you will find a lot of how-tos, shared experiences, recipes, and videos of things we are trying and learning more about.
Yeah they sell them at Mcfarlane Pheasant Farm in Janesville Wisconsin...they do well for release if you have good cover. The also have a good ringneck strain that are excellent for releasing called the Manchurian/Cross Ringneck. I've released pheasants for 25 years and they are by far the best ringneck strain I've ever tried for release....
Very interesting bird and I enjoyed the story. I hadn't thought about it but there are albino animals, so why wouldn't there be an all black mutation?
Never heard of them....I know pheasants are becoming runners and not flyers....And game farms are having issues with that fact.
Cool looking bird, thumbs up
interesting bird to see.
Thanks for sharing
That is really cool. I've never seen one, although I've done a lot of pheasant hunting here in Northeast Nebraska.
I would probably scatter some cracked corn or chicken scratch out to see if it would stick around.
Nice video, full of great info. I have never raised or hunted pheasant. Looks like a cool bird to raise and release. Thanks for sharing!
You being such a dog person would love it. So much of the fun is working the dogs.
Here in WV wild pheasant is getting so scarce. This one was very interesting in color.
Coincidentally, there was a mmp/ringneck cross advertised on the local (Bakersfield, CA) craigslist yesterday.
COOL!! I raise pheasants for my wildlife organization, for going on 15 years now. Only one time did I get different or abberations in the roosters. One year I had a green, blue, purple and black rooster, and one black hen. I held them back and didnt release them with the birds we turned out. I waited until hunting season was over, and then released them. It was only until this past season that someone I know got a purple pheasant. They reminded me of peacocks.
I live in a town of about 60000 people. it's not the edge of town anymore with all the building going on but there's plenty of houses and traffic around my house however in my backyard is an empty lot which someday I'm sure will be a road. In the last couple weeks I've had a green melanistic phesant visit my garden. I even fed him bird seed today out of a scoop. So good to be so close. he's beautiful.
I'm from Ireland and we order and rare loads of pheasant through the local gun clubs each year and I remember hearing a story for years about this black pheasant seen the whole time and disappear come hunting season...thought it was a myth or rural legend until one day I saw it.. beautiful elusive bird...by all accounts it was God knows how old but never heard of anyone shooting a black pheasant...so if it was the same bird it was ancient ....🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪
Does it taste like chicken? 😂
And yes I realize this was 3 years old. Lol
They like meal worms and bird seed.
Wow first time seeing that color pheasant
I thought it was really cool seeing it. 😀👍
good day to you Eric & Family !! thanks for sharing your adventures and update on & off the farm 🏡🌳🌽🌻🎥✝
We love seeing your videos. Thanks for sharing. Merry Christmas!
Enjoyed the video as always ... rub Diesel for me ... all the best!
Thanks kido. Another piece of knowledge. Did not know of this bird.
Thanks for sharing the pics of that bird. I have seen a few pheasants here in PA but never all black. Great story too. Never had one run toward me!
Awesome video, my brother raises those. Pretty birds. And youre right they get so tame as you raise them, God bless
I dunno, I have raised them, and they seem wild to me. Of course I dont keep them that long only for about 8 to 9 months and then release them.
@@joerivas9847 you’re absolutely right, my brother pheasants were raised from a incubator. They were wild. But he had a couple that were tame. But the rest were crazy wild, even when he went to feed them. He sold them to people that hunt them to work their dogs.
I remember as a teenager hunting rabbit or squirrel I would jump a cubby of them, it would take your breath away. I hardly come across anymore wild ones anymore. Most are raised from eggs. Beautiful birds
Game farm birds. They release them here then hunt them. Even red ones. Cool looking bird and good eat n
That is really cool thank you so much for sharing.
I never knew they existed. thanks for the great info.
Great info. Thanks for passing it along.
