But, I find it curious how you failed to mention 5000+ year of wars in the near/middle/far east. I hope your not saying the Achaemenid Empire land gains were gifts because history uses the word conquered. But lets come a little more current. Are you saying the Iran / Iraq war never happened? Iran didn't support Palestine just this month?
      As for "evil" forget about countries at war and focus on the Iranian government's crimes against Iranians.

    18:30 - It is deeply rooted in Iranian politeness and hospitality rules to refuse favors ("tarof"), especially from a guest. The behaviour of these men was fully compliant to their society's standards, they were not being rude. It is important to point this out.

    • @englishlyrics5037
      @englishlyrics5037 3 роки тому +22

      And the fact that they knew if they join the guests' meal, there is a possibility for the guests to not having enough of the food :)
      This is probably another reason that I guess as an Iraninan.

    • @brushemteeth9159
      @brushemteeth9159 3 роки тому +2

      @It Is Cool That depends on the context of course. This is a very special and rather expensive present. What you describe is different from what I said: you can give presents to your host, but your host is socially obliged to take care of everything related to hospitality, especially food (like in Evas case). The person will probably refuse at first out of politeness ("tarof"), but if you insist, they will eventually accept it and enjoy the gift.

    What a beautiful documentary. I experienced the same reaction from people here in UK when I said I was visiting Iran. I went on my own. I did not speak Farsi.After my first visit I went back 3 more times. Why? I was given such a great welcome, most of them strangers. They took me in their homes fed me and would not allow me to stay in hotels. My last visit I stayed totally with the great friends I made. They are now my best friends. Best of all I met and married a beautiful Iranian girl and we live happily here in UK. We can’t wait to return back after the pandemic. My next visits I shall focus purely visiting the villages and countryside .

    The part of that culture is that, they know there is isn't enough food / mushrooms to go around. As many will know mushrooms when cooked they cooked/ fried it almost shrinks to nothing. I bet you anything, they were all very hungry, but they refused as a common courtesy. People of that part of the world are exceptionally hospitable.

    The first time (1977, just before the revolution) I visited Iran it was like coming home: total hospitality. I couldn't believe it after the very bad information I had received from the news. I felt safe wherever I went, and people were so sweet and hospitable. It took me a while to get out of the terribly stiff, distant, formal, and handshaking culture I grew up in. I think it was the first time that I really felt human, and just go by trust, respect, and goodwill. We are all humans, we resemble each other more than we have differences, we have the same concerns, and above all, we breathe the same air, drink the same water, and cannot live without it. As it's such a long time ago, I sometimes think that I am just nostalgic, but then when I see this, the enthusiasm of new pioneers, I realize once more, these experiences/discoveries, are real gems of life.
