- IMPORTANT UPDATE!!! Please check out the new update video for this windscreen/potstand.
I watched a review of the $25, 4-piece Toaks titanium pot stand. Nice bit of gear but expensive and doesnt have built-in pot supports. So I wanted to make a modular windscreen/pot stand that is all-in-one. This is the "build" video where I show you how to make one. A second, shorter follow up on burn test and an important modification is also posted.
If you want a copy of the template and the dimension calculator spreadsheet, email me at TomLovesDIY@protonmail.com.
Shout to subscriber Wayne Vowell for creating a professional-looking, pdf version. Thanks Wayne!
I think the chisel is a damn good idea. Thanks
It worked perfectly and actually didn't damage the chisel. Even made a slight partial fold which helped assembly. Didn't think it would do much harm. Tool steel vs aluminum flashing. And the chisels are old made in USA Craftsman. Good quality. You planning to make a set? I can send you the template. Just email me at tomloesdiy@protonmail.com. Appreciate your comment. Love to hear from ya'all.
Now it's my tool, and I'll do what I want.😊
Yep.
Really cool ❤❤❤
Thanks for comment. Before you make one see the update video with pop rivets. Cheers.
JB weld will degrade with heat. Your pot will fall off if you heat it long enough. It's better to use rivets.
I agree. You are the only person who has caught that. JB is only good to 500F. Alcohol burns at 2x+ that temp. I'm going to add pop rivets and do an updated video. Thanks for commenting and watching.
Update video is posted.
Pretty cool idea. We definitely need a windscreen, and this is light weight.
Yes, made of aluminum flashing it's very lightweight. There is always a tradeoff - weight VS strength. Unless you use titanium! Don't have any in my garage. I'm going to post an update; adding pop rivets to secure the pot stand tabs. Concerned that theJB Weld can fail over time because of the high heat. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers.
If you want the windscreen template, send me an email - tomlovesdiy@protonmail.com.
Nice straightforward easy to follow instructional. Well done.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers
Tom,
I ended up watching several of your videos and wanted to implement a couple of them, so I figured I owed you a subscription. Keep up the good work!
Wayne
I appreciate it. Happy that you found some useful. When you get some made, please Send me pics at tomlovediy@protonmail.com.
(Phew, I thought you were going to use the tape measure as a hammer.)
Nice build. Nice technique for making sorts and bump outs. Thanks.
No. I draw the line at hammering with pliers. The slots and tabs work well and didn't harm my chisel. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers
Just watched a video of how to build this alcohol burner wind screen/pot supporter and love it.....I was getting ready to build one from one I saw on another channel and wa-la....I came across yours....and I do appreciate you and now have subscribed to your channel....and I thank you and I'll let ya know how it works out....
I so appreciate your comment. Please do let me know how it comes out. You can email me and send pics/vids! Thanks for watching. tomlovesdiy@protonmail.com
only found this today and sent an email for the plans, what a great idea I only hope I can make one as nice as yours. I really like the idea of the modular system as it allows you to be able to change pot sizes easily. Great instructional video. take care and stay safe
You should have the jpeg template and spreadsheet in your inbox. LMK if it doesn't show up or you have any problems. Thanks for watching and commenting.
@@tomlovesdiy it arrived thanks
Parabéns ótimo vídeo
😎👍
Good job, looks practical.
6:27 - Cut a small "V" in the top of the groove on the tab, so when using the pot weight press the wire triangle against this 'V" and lock in the centre.
And your DIY stove? ;)
Good idea. Thanks

Sorry. Can't translate. I only read English and Spanish.
Is it aluminum or stainless steel?
Aluminum. Very thin flashing. Easy to work and lightweight. But not very durable - bends easily.
The "arms" that the pot rests on are stainless steel. Another video shows added pop rivets. Check it out.
