    This is by far the best alcohol stove design. I made one out of aluminum but only put holes on one side so I can turn it out of the wind. Good video man👍

    Just found out about the Caldera cone the day before yesterday and thought I'd have to check out the hardware store for different flashings to see whats available.
    Haven't seen any titanium flashing around, was also thinking of making a 6' × 2.25" roll up chimney for my tent stove maybe pickup a 12" ×12" course stainless mesh for a cap/ash catcher. Definately not cheap but should last a lifetime.
    Funny this vid turned up just now!!!

    Hope you don't mind a suggestion. Printers can sometimes print images a bit smaller than anticipated, if shrink to fit is selected. If you draw a scale on your templates (like on a map). People can check their printer is printing it the right size by comparing the scale with a ruler. Hope useful. A fellow alcohol stove enthusiast.

    Nice Job Jaxx. I've purchased three of these in various sizes from Trail Designs and finally decided to try and make a shorter version for my Foster's beer can pot because they don't offer one. I bought the tall one and just couldn't bring myself to cut it down (call me chicken). Anyway...that is a nice project for a rainy day. Good job on the vid...

    Trying my hand again at alcohol stoves. Wanting to do some dry baking. I take it the purpose of the caldera cone is basically a fancy wind screen/pot stand?
    I’m using a fancy feast stove with a diy simmer ring.
    What determines the height of the cone?

    • @JaxxDrinkwater
      @JaxxDrinkwater  6 років тому

      Yes that is it's function and also it doesn't show it in this video because my pot is small, this is more of a mini version. On bigger pots, they are actually supposed to nest all the way down into the cone so it's heating the entire pot and not just the bottom. The height of the cone varies, you have to take into account a few factors. The height of your stove! Then add 1 inch of space between the stove and the bottom of the pot. Then add in the height of the pot. Then you have to add in the diameter of the pot. Find a center point above.. then draw your cone out. I could show you better than I could tell you. This is a not so good quality video on UA-cam but you should get the gist of it.. ua-cam.com/video/VerP7-aiEBw/v-deo.html

    • @rkatrails
      @rkatrails 4 місяці тому

      @@JaxxDrinkwaterCurrently I use a Soto Windmaster Stove with a TOAKS 550ml pot and 100g fuel canister. The whole kit weighs 12.6 oz. I saw a UA-cam video about six weeks ago where they were talking about alcohol stoves and it piqued my curiosity and I've been researching to try and understand how they work and I was trying to understand the various options like alcohol, gel, tablets and the options to pair them with windscreens and pot holders. There are so many stoves it gets kind of confusing as to which is the best kind to choose. So far I kind of like the Kojin stove. I eliminated tablets like the Esbit because of the smell I keep hearing about. Anyway, it's been kind of a fun learning curve and I'd kind of like to try one for fun. I only need to boil about 8-10 ounces of water to rehydrate my meals, then after I eat I like to boil more water for coffee to savor without it getting cold while I eat. I normally hike at high altitude, around 10,000 feet and oftentimes with a fair amount of wind, so all that needs to be factored in to which alcohol stove kit would work best in those conditions.

      You might try using a different stove that doesn't burn as hot, like the starlight stove or just get a hold of some titanium. Aluminum has a melting point of something like 1200°F and titanium over 3000°F.
