Thank you for this video! I am at the airport waiting for the breeder to show up with my new puppy, and I have been nervous about the flying part. Thank you! This helps!
Picking up our ridgeback from Dallas in Nov. we live in NYC area. I’ve never flown with a puppy before this was super informative. I’ll admit I’m worried about barking on the place or peeing. 😫
I am planning to buy a puppy from a breeder in the future (years away actually, haha) but this got rid of all the worries I had. I seriously thought the only way you could take puppies on a plane was by them being in the cargo or something.
Please adopt a dog instead, there are already so many without homes. And if you are looking for a purebred you can just google Purebreds for ADOPTION, not from a breeder. There are way to many dogs in shelters already.
Aww thank you for this my family is going to Dominican Republic and it’s a 4 hour flight. And we’re bringing my dog she’s a cockapoo and is 2 years old 💕
I have to fly up to Connecticut in a month to get my puppy! I’ve never flown with a puppy so I’m a little nervous but this video helped tremendously! 🐶
Tsa does not allow toys to be in the crate during inspection fyi. Also they often require you have a ID tag, harness/collar and leash for when they take the dog out of the crate for inspection.
Yes, we are aware of that. Everything is removed during inspection. They explain this to people going through with a crate and puppy. It's no different than anyone else going through security. Everything is inspected. :)
Omg! Thank you for this, I am so anxious. I have a new little pup coming, he is flying in on Friday but I live in another country, I came to pick him up since the breeder does not do international shipping. So he will be on another plane on Monday and I was trying to figure out how to keep both of our anxiety down. This video is super helpful. Thank you!
Be certain to bring a warm wrap for your animal. Planes are cold and the vents are under the seats. My frenchie rode in my lap to stay warm, and he had a sweater.
It was a Great video! Thank you! I’m actually traveling Alaska /horizon as well, it’s only an hour flight in a few weeks bringing home a standard poodle puppy. Do you have any carrier recommendations? A lot of the ones in finding Tend to be an inch or half an inch above the requirements.
My Wife Took our four month old Morkie down to Florida on the plane ✈️ for the first time. He wouldn’t stop barking until he got on the plane ✈️ then he was good the entire 2 hour flight ✈️. Airline officials say if your dog is barking before the plane takes off while it’s inside the plane they will not let you fly
@Ka chi we flew and still fly Jet Blue. Our dog has gotten better. He no longer barks now. He’s older. He was doing that when he was a puppy. But I have heard some horror stories from people on other airlines (they may all be the same at some point) as well as Jet Blue. I guess it depends if the flight attendants are dog lovers or not. They are the ones who complain and enforce the the rules.
@@andrewjones2133ah this is getting me nervous. This is actually a really big coincidence, we’re going to florida and back to pick up a morkie from a breeder and flying jetblue. he’s 7 months
I’m going to pick up my new puppy in the Bay Area. I’m flying from LA so it’s an hour flight. I’m a little nervous about how he will act like on the plane
@Rochelle Woods When I flew with my previous two dogs, my vet told me to give the dog a Benedryl before boarding. I can't remember amount though. Am searching internet now to see if that is still done. My vet refused to advise me because he hasn't seen the puppy and doesn't know the weight. Told me to ask the breeder.
If my dog does use the bathroom on his pad (pooping or peeing at least 3 times) where do i throw it away? Im not going on any trips yet though, but please can someone tell me?
That puppy is so calm, my puppy is so scared to be confined. I am not sure how to train her to get int he carrier and we have already scheduled a flight in March. She is 13 weeks now, any recommendations??
The puppies are laying down in the soft sided carrier. They are not sitting or standing. A typical puppy is not too cramped and is quite comfortable. They just lay their heads down and go to sleep.
Good question. The video I just watched says puppies should be fed frequently, So I intend to give her a bit of food an hour before our 4 hour flight. That leaves time to take her to potty on a potty pad in a bathroom before the flight
With my last puppy, Delta said they required a vet see the dog within 3 days of flight and complete a form. But I was never asked to show it! This time with my new puppy 9 weeks old, I am flying with American. I specifically asked and was told no paperwork is needed. That worries me, though.
Most airlines limit to either one or two dogs per cabin. So if there are two of you, you could theoretically have one of you in each cabin with two puppies each, if the airline allows. Check American.
Dont follow all of this advice blindly. As somebody who has been breeding for 13 years now, when transporting a young dog do not let them out of the carrier unless you are leashing them and placing a blanket or towel between the floor and them. Parvo is a real thing which kills dogs, and you dont want a parvo pup. Also, never take your dog out of its carrier unless necessary to make sure that they do not interfere with working dogs. If your dog runs off, it can cause damage to service dogs and you may be in a hefty lawsuit of 40-60k USDs or more.
Don't feed the puppy the day of travel. This prevents the messy carrier. Be sure to let the puppy poop prior to being introduced to the carrier. That way, anxiety doesn't prevent natural processes.
Puppies under 3 months have a hard time regulating blood sugar levels and should never go without food for an entire day. We keep our pups on schedule with meals when they fly, and rarely have any issues with a pup messing a carrier, and it only happens when they are desperate. They give plenty of warning that they are uncomfortable and need to be taken out, and a quick trip to the plane bathroom and a potty pad on the ground solves the problem. They are always provided a potty opportunity before boarding a plane.
@@ThePracticalPuppy I always used to take my dog in the carrier into toilet aboard plane in the middle of a long flight. I'd put the potty pad on the floor and perch on the toilet seat myself and put her down on it. She never went, but I felt better for giving her the chance!
I’m currently at an airport delayed 13 hrs and this made my night.Im giddy now!

Hi! What is safer for a young puppy (8wks): flying for an hour or driving for 10 hours? Thank you! ✨
Im so sorry for the late reply but it is probably better to travel for an hour becuase for 10 hours your pup can get kinda stressed, scared.

hi can you please make a video about making dogs comfortable visiting the vet and how to choose the right vet?
We have a video planned that will actually address this very thing. :)
Do they bark inside the plane? Or in the middle of the flight?
Omg thats Eugene airport!
Cute!
Does the puppy have to stay in the carrier the whole flight..can you have him or her on ur lap
always wondered if dogs realize they are high up in the air while on a flight or if there sense of smell worsens due to the altitude.

Can I use a hard cage for in cabin dog

Randy GBH no, with the pandemic, our flight was cancelled and now our pup is too big for a carrier! 😂
If the space under a standard airplane seat is 7.5 inches tall, how on earth do you get a puppy underneath a seat???
